He Lezhi was in a relationship for eight years. Those eight years were soft and happy, and time stretched out long and slow.

But when all of this was shattered by his passionate, pure-hearted boyfriend’s own words, those eight years felt like a dream.

Ending a long-term relationship is like splitting yourself from a joint entity, requiring you to change your home, change your accounts, and sever some associated friendships.

Han Fangchi and Zhou Muyao are childhood friends, the kind of “older brothers” connected through family ties for all these years.

Among the friendships He Lezhi severed, Han Fangchi was originally supposed to be one of them.

But Han Fangchi was a little different from the others.

For a period of time after the breakup, he was the only friend He Lezhi still kept in contact with.

They naturally grew distant, yet there was always a quiet, tacit understanding between them. In each other’s eyes, they could see a long-lost intimacy.

From Zhou Muyao’s perspective, they weren’t familiar.

From He Lezhi’s perspective, they weren’t exactly unfamiliar either.

One-sentence Summary: Did you forget? I was the one who met you first.

In my opinion, this is one of hidden GEM among danmei that I've ever read. First of all, please forgive for my poor grammar lmao. Broadly speaking, this novel is about reconcile and redefined relationship between MC that broke up with his boyfriend for 8 years and ML that realized his feeling for MC after years drifted apart. Their relationship is literally whole green forest (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶) there's no big drama and they both getting along very well. I like how they're interacting tactfully between each other, making sure... more>> each side is comfortable and respecting each other's boundaries. They both have mature mindset about how relationship should be.

Spoiler

MC and ML was friend in high school (If I remembered correctly... (っ- ‸ - ς)) They both had past relationship before getting together. ML had two girlfriends in the past, in high school and in college. ML was someone that devoted to relationship, he even reached stage where he thinking about married and form a family with one of the girlfriend back then. But in the end, her mindset didn't match with ML (she literally said that the way ML treated her was like how an old couple in 60 or 70 years old getting along lol.·°՞ (̑ ᗜ ̑) ՞°·), so they broke up. ML was quite rigid in relationship lmao, that's why he needed MC as someone that could guide and understand how he feeling.

On other hand, MC had relationship with Zhou Muyao (Xiao Hei), family of ML. What makes MC ended the relationship was that Muyao having emotional infidelity with one of his friend. I think that's the last straw of the relationship, other than that is their personality isn't compatible. Zhou Muyao used being center of attention between his friends, so he always expect other to cater him without minding what MC's need in relationship. MC's sense of self being blurred because that ex selfishness, especially friendships he had with others.

ML doesn't realize the concept of homosexuality until he knew MC dating Zhou Muyao. It's really fascinating how ML gradually noticed the shifting of their relationship after reunited again. The first thought MC had when ML confessed was guilt because he seems dragging a 'normal' person into wrong way QAQ ML is so thoughtful that he gave time for MC to sort out his thought before accepting his confession, with tacit understanding not pressuring MC

The story was written thoughtfully, especially the character. I LOVE MC's MOM, she's a single mother that raised MC with much love. She's outgoing and open minded, accepted her son's orientation right away, and understanding her son's personality really well. Like there's scene where's Zhou Muyao helping MC's mom with subtle thought to make her persuaded MC to getting back together with him. I really want to knock some sense into MC's ex, but MC mom's already did it first lol. That ex acted like typical chasing wife's behavior with pestering MC and acted he's the only one who's hurt after their breakup. MC's mom gently pointed how MC constantly drained in their relationship, how that ex acted immature and their personality doesn't match. Really, in the end that Zhou Muyao was really a brat, especially after he knew MC and ML are together.

Absolute gem! The first part of the story mainly covers MC's relationship between his (ex) -boyfriend and ML and how these three are related to each other. The second part is how the MC and ML tried rediscovering their friendship that mellowed these past 8 years and the third part is how they navigate their relationship from friends then eventually lovers. This story is so good I cannot put it down once I started reading it. All of the characters are matured and realistic. All of their decisions are grounded... more>> to their characters and you won't question their reaction to things because the author clearly laid out their personality and beliefs.

I was reluctant to pick this up at first because the idea of ML having "familial relationship" with MC's ex and how he was the only one MC is reluctant to cut ties with felt iffy to me. The synopsis make it seem like ML is there all along just to wait for MC to break up with his current boyfriend so ML can swoop in confess his feelings, but no. Their conscience are both clean. There were no overlap of feelings or overstepping of boundaries during the 8-years MC was in a relationship. There's also at least a significant amount of time that passed after ending things with his ex-boyfriend before MC got into a new relationship with ML. Their feelings gradually developed through shared space, hobbies and food.

This is the 4th story I read from this author and so far this is my favorite of all. Highly recommended! <<less
