My Omega Lover

Song Yuexue, as an ordinary Beta, perhaps the most extraordinary thing in her life is having an Omega lover. They met in obscurity, and Song Yuexue watched as her partner rose higher and higher, eventually standing in a place beyond her reach.

She wanted to reach out, yet feared her partner might fall from the heights, so she decided to stand silently behind, quietly waiting.

Originally, they thought they had no future together, but who would have expected that at twenty-five, Song Yuexue would differentiate into an Alpha?

Beta marriages are free, but if Omegas don’t marry, they’ll be listed in the annual matching list and arranged with different partners until they marry. As for Alphas, as long as they’re willing, they will be arranged with gentle Omega wives.

Tang Yao’s fans bet that their idol would remain single this year.

Song Yuexue’s family thought the same. They never cared much for male or female abos, so Song Yuexue surely wouldn’t choose to apply for a partner. She would dedicate herself to her position and become a qualified doctor Song. But to everyone’s surprise:

The eternal single female idol Tang Yao decided not to remain single but to get married.

As for Song Yuexue, her family didn’t hold high hopes for her as a doctor, but a year after her differentiation, she successfully entered the institution of marriage.

Fans: No, I don’t believe it. How could my idol, who vowed to remain single for a hundred years, get married?!

Song’s family: What did we miss…?

So. I recommend this. An absolute gem so far. The gist of the story is, our main character is a beta who can't comfort her lover, an omega, basically because their bodies aren't made to do that. Usually, you'd have the FL be a total b*tch, and maybe slowly fall in love and whatnot.

However, Yao'er, (which is the FL's nickname) is quite literally head-over-heels for her lover. She's willing to completely upend her own life just to be with Yuexue.

it's heartwarming, it's adorable, and its f*cking good. I'd say... more>> to give it a read up to at least chapter 7, and if you're not pulled in you can drop it. And if you are invested, let it simmer and cook. It's shaping up to be a wild ride. <<less

Story is solid so far but man idk what's going on but the translation when it comes to keeping the pronouns straight has recently been lacking, too many "he"s referencing the female protag, wasn't much of an issue before but has been happening alot more frequently, really takes me out of what I'm reading

Only 6 chapters in and I'm already here to write a review because what the actual f is going on.

ABO AUs more often than not have ugly dynamics and particularly punishing towards the omega and this one isn't exempt from the ugly side of ABO, perhaps it is one of the worst offenders.

The way the people around Tang Yao acted because she's in a relationship with a 'B' is nothing short of horrifying. The way AB or BO relationships are treated into this world seem to be parallel to h*mophobia... more>> in our world and I deeply feel for Song Yuexue and Tang Yao because love alone isn't enough in this world where the government would systematically punish the ones non-compliant of their image of a "perfect" relationship. Rings a bell?

Now, the reason I'm writing this review is because I'm flabbergasted when Tang Yao's agent freaking thought of subjecting her to corrective r*pe (implied) by "sending her to a certain places with 'A' so she knows how useless her 'B' is."

Excuse me???? If that isn't an allusion for rampant h*mophobia/violent against queer people then I have never read a text critically in my life, ever.

Now, onward with the novel and hopefully I'll update my review again once I'm done.

***

Things you have to know about Song Yuexue:

1) She's a Beta.

2) She's not an Alpha.

3) She's not an Omega. 4) She's exceptionally beautiful.

5) She's an exceptional medical doctor, respected by her peers and mentors but this point isn't really relevant (see point 2 & 3). That's pretty much the basis of this story, and the synopsis has covered the novel too - you won't get many twists and turns here. I'd say the author did a great job building suspense with some of the antagonist's actions in the novel but it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things and damn I wish lovers would learn to communicate better for once.

I wanted so badly to like this novel and ultimately, I wonder if that's the reason the novel falls flat for me. It felt dragged on and on unnecessarily in some parts and because one of the main characters is a celebrity, let's throw in a variety show as well just like any other celeb AUs. While I don't mind this format as much, after seeing too many of them you start to compare and realize some these in-universe variety shows are just bad and unnecessary.

This is really turning into just a rant about this novel and while this isn't my cup of tea, it might be yours, as it has plenty of sweet moments and fluff once you get past all the drama. Ironically, some of the side pairings' stories and also the final extra of the story hold more appeal for me than the actual main plot itself. <<less

I love how this is about an already established couple but I didn't get enough on why they're so into each other. What made them love each other so much to the point of sacrificing themselves just to be together? That should have been shown more. They felt like a regular couple that was too stubborn to break up because they find the idea of "being together against all odds" hot. In other words, nothing about them stand out much aside from being an unconventional pairing.

But I do love how... more>> they love each other. I just wanted to know more on why. I also like how the main couple is
Spoiler

not the only unconventional pairing. There's an A/B and A/A pairing as well.

[collapse]

I like how the first half has lots of cute scenes and still felt like reading a tragedy waiting to happen. It made me anxious enough to keep reading because I'm promised a happy ending.

But after that, it felt like it slowly lost its luster. Maybe because the main villain was already handled and the succeeding conflict wasn't as serious as before.

As for the villain... although I agree that tr*sh should be with tr*sh, this is like throwing used candy wrapper with a rotting orange peel. They are of different kinds. The one who 'took care' of the main villain has more villainous qualities in my opinion. I kinda wanted more on what happened to them afterwards, but this novel isn't about them hahaha!

Also, (this may be a translation issue or a flaw of the original but) there were many instances where topics gets repeated many times like it's being forcefully drilled into you. Barely adding anything to the narrative, it's as if it's just there for the word count. And, a large part of the characters' personalities or backgrounds are fed to us by another person's thoughts, sometimes even during conversations. Both these instances often ruin the scene continuity for me.

Overall, I liked it but it's still not going to my favorites list. <<less
