The novel has the elements of a very good story, but it falls short on some things. Those things ruin the story for me.

So, the MC, as you've seen from the summary, has a very strong power that basically allows her to ignore cultivation level altogether and one shot enemies. But due to the nature of her power, she needs to hide it, or she'll get hunted by the strongest cultivators in the story. As of now, at chapter 80, she's only ever used this power twice.

The MC basically goes... more>> through most of her life as an innocent, soft, and somewhat timid person. Though that's actually just a mask, and she's actually very smart, and schemes a lot. This creates a very interesting dynamic with a lot of characters.

Anyways, she has a lot of "golden fingers", or cheats basically, if you're not familiar with that term. Her strange fire, which can one shot people. Half the breath soil, which basically makes her immune to poison, and enhances energy efficiency (?), I'm not sure since the descriptions are always so unclear about what it can do. And finally, a special ability that allows her to see through all illusions, and in battle, allows her to see everything in slow motion, even making her capable of matching a 13 ranked sword spirit in speed (basically just one rank lower than the highest rank of power).

Overall, you might think she has a strong power level right? A hidden dragon? Not exactly.

Due to some complications, even now, at chapter 80, she's still at the weakest level of cultivation. And despite having hidden powers, probably being one of the strongest people in the world if she used her strange fire, because she basically never uses her golden fingers, she'll mostly appear as a weak but scheming cultivator, even to us readers.

My problem is that she doesn't feel like a main character most of the time. She feels like a scheming side character, watching the actual main characters from the shadows. She schemes a lot, but as a wise person once said, all schemes crumble in the face of true power. She has a lot of plans, and a can see a lot of things due to her remote viewing, but she can barely affect the story because of how weak her effective combat power actually is when there are people around.

Aside from her, we also follow the male lead in the chapters, and he can use the powers of all nine schools (when even a prodigy can supposedly only use two), at an extremely high level. He has the same special mentor as the protag and, has a hidden past that he's forgotten. Supposedly, he's tried to destroy the world three times, and he has an aloof personality. We mostly see him "face slapping" people, being an overpowered muck. He actually feels more of a main character sometimes.

Actually, the MC even has a friend, the one with the 13 ranked sword spirit, who probably has the highest effective combat strength out of any student.

I'm saying that despite her character setting of a seemingly "hidden master", she relies wayyy too much on the strength of other characters, especially the male lead. She has so many "golden fingers", but feels super weak despite that.

I know that the novel, and other stories aren't all about power, but from everything that's been said, you'd expect her to be more Independent.

From what I've seen, and from how the story is going, I can guess that moving forward, she'll probably still rely on the male lead and other characters for future events. Relying on others is fine, but there's a "too much for everything".

If you can't show me why the MC of your story is different from all the other thousands and thousands of cultivation mcs, then I'll find another story that does.

It had a promising start, but I'm not gonna read another 80 chapters of this, waiting for something new to happen. <<less

Starts off slow, with our protag basically being cursed with a shitty family and powers that would have her hunted down. Her solution is to play dumb for 18 years and act like a normal, albeit, foolish person. Her mother wants her dead so she can take back part of the power within our protag, so no luck there. Her dad only sees her as a pawn in his schemes and her being s*upid limits how much she is used for his ends. Once she gets out from under their... more>> thumbs is when it gets interesting. Our protag is really good a math and basically cracks open the cultivation version of WhatsApp as a child, then uses that to monitor the ppl around her. Overall, interesting character and storyline so far, we will have to see how things develop.

(ML spoilers) another interesting point is I was worried that her childhood best friend would be the ML which would kinda suck bc he’s like the classic protag for these series- dude with mysterious background raised by another prominent family, has childhood sweetheart but also meets a bunch of hot women along the way until he has a harem (or pseudo-harem) of 600 beauties. Luckily our protag sees him only as a brother and as a useful resource, tho he does see her as a romance option. The actual ML is her senior brother, mentioned in the summary. [\Spoiler] <<less

i found another gem again. But today, I can't even wait to finish it before I pour my heart out in writing a review, because this certain chapter moved my heart so much.

yu sui is really pitiful. Since birth, there was not a single moment when she let her guard down and truly opened her heart to someone. The people who should have loved her the most, the ones who should have cared for her—her parents—were instead the ones she needed to guard against the most. That's why, from birth,... more>> she never had a single moment where she was allowed to just be herself—laugh loudly when she's happy and cry her heart out when she's sad. She always needed to pretend to be s*upid—but not too s*upid—just enough so she could guard her secrets and survive.

that's why she never trusted anyone, and she never truly received love from anyone. Even her parents didn't like her, so can she really find someone else, a stranger, who can accept her wholeheartedly, with all her secrets? In front of the truth of being a world destroyer, who else can really love her despite her being someone who can destroy the world at any time?

Spoiler

that's why when mei liangyu discovered her secret, she was angry at first, but then she just sighed and gave up. She knew no one would willingly keep her secret, even mei liangyu, so she prepared herself to be discovered as a world destroyer—and to die. After 18 years of hiding, since birth, it seemed like her life was already going to end. But she wasn't reconciled to just die like that, so maybe she would let her strange fire burn the academy, so they could all die with her.

but then, mei liangyu never told anyone.

he continued living his life, casually telling even the most minor and boring things to their master, but he never mentioned her secret. He even avenged the injury she got from wenyang hui the moment he got out of the dragon cave—something even her brother gu, who had been with her since childhood, wasn't able to do for her.

i think from that moment on, she wondered what kind of person mei liangyu really was. That's why she followed him to mechanical island, to observe him from a distance. And then there, she realized, that it turns out there would come a day where there will be someone in her life who could understand her—someone who wouldn't ask anything about her secret but would just stay quiet by her side when she needed someone. Someone who would remember her and return to her side to accompany her when she thought she would journey alone, with no one by her side. Someone who would jump off a cliff to follow her when she fell, even if a single, weak class d student being eliminated wasn't a major thing. And someone who would quietly keep her secret of being someone who could destroy the world, without ever asking her anything.

so she thought, maybe mei liangyu liked her.

someone who was not her parents, not her sibling, not her friend—just a stranger. Just someone who happened to be her senior brother. Someone who doesn't have any blood link to her.

someone else finally liked her just for who she is.

[collapse]

it was also in this chapter, I think, that

Spoiler

mei liangyu finally realized his feelings for yu sui. When he saw yu sui lying alone and lifeless on that cold, snowy day, he finally realized how scared he was to lose her. And when yu sui saw how mei liangyu rushed to her without even caring about his injuries, I think she realized that there was finally someone who was willing to care for her and like her as she is.

[collapse]

that's why this scene below is, I think, my most favorite thing in the book.

Spoiler

when yu sui told her senior brother, in such a gentle tone, that she doesn't need anyone to like her or accommodate her greatly. She just needed someone who would say they won't kill her. Someone who would tell her she isn't cursed, unlucky, and that she doesn't have to die. That was the only thing she ever wished for.

so if mei liangyu, her senior brother, is that someone—then in that moment, maybe she can finally open her heart. And if she ever liked someone, she would return the care she received a thousand times over. Towards someone who would simply not dislike her, she would make him the happiest person in the world.

so after a pause, mei liangyu replied.

he was so greedy—of course, he wanted to be the happiest person in the world.

Okay, first of all, this novel isn't your typical xianxia romance novel. It's much more complex. Starting with its unusual world-building, where there are far more unique levels of power and types of abilities. There are nine types of classifications, and other powers beyond that. Then we're also told about the situation the MC faces. How she must put on a mask to survive, then decide to give up when her family decides to abandon her. Yes, althoug MC is portrayed as cunning and manipulative throughout the story, her character... more>> development is still palpable. Even though she already knows that she will eventually be abandoned, she still tries to approach her family, albeit under pretense. Not because of affection, but fear of her father. As the story progresses, she then breaks free from that fear, along with her fear of death. She will also eventually give up on everyone except ML. Because she knows that almost all the relationships she has built so far are just pretense, and everyone will eventually be hostile to her because she has that strange fire. Oh, and don't forget how she slowly develops feelings for the ML. I think that's invaluable, because we know the MC hates the world and has no trust in humans.

Aside from the MC, the other characters are also portrayed in a way that is no less complex. Umm, if I had to choose the most memorable character throughout this series, I would probably choose the MC's third older brother. A character with anger issues and childishness that I initially considered "quite nice" then changed just because the MC, his younger sister, was honest with him. Oh, I don't want to spoil further, but just because of that one conversation, the third older brother's character immediately became clearer. Selfish and s*upid. The only brother who didn't hesitate to kill his own sister. Okay, okay, regardless, I think the author managed to portray each character quite well. And maybe because of that, the plot felt so slow, hahahaha.

Now let's talk talk about the power. The main character possesses countless cheat keys. From a strange fire capable of incinerating the universe to powerful "computing" abilities capable of hacking communication devices within the novel's world, she also possesses a variety of other powerful abilities that will be discovered as the series progresses. But, the previous comment is true, the MC's abilities are OP, but that doesn't disrupt the power system in this novel. Because even though she's strong, she has to keep hiding until she's strong enough to fight everyone, including her father.

This is truly an exciting and suspenseful novel. There's also a bit of emotional spice that makes me even more captivated by this novel.

I highly recommend it if you're looking for a xianxia novel that's different from the rest. The downside is that it's still unfinished and the author seems a bit lazy about continuing the series <<less

It's really a 4.5 for me, the background the novel is set in is so unique, because I've never really seen it before, I first thought it was based on a cultivation setting or something xianxia but nope, it really is unique as hell. Honestly other than the MC and cast the best part about the novel was the prophecy and world setting. Don't have much to say other try reading it!

Edit: I dropped it. I'd give it a 3. It got boring after the timeskip

So so, the protagonist is a cunning two faced woman, and the male lead is a possessive and unrestrained (restrained towards mc). The way they cultivate their core is confusing. But I still found myself reading more, curious as to where it will go. The MC lived her life pretending, knowing her parents would kill her, she endured and suppress her hatred, she is seen as a naive, dull-witted heir of Nangong family, a princess who is innocent and talentless and couldn't possibly hurt anyone, hiding her fangs.

It was until... more>> she attended Taiyi and got under the tutelage of the Saint Changgen who sealed the thing fighting with her for her core, and finally she was able to learn the nine school of thought, but even then she still pretended as a naive princess. We then learned that aside from her generating a core (people usually only have one core, if it's broken they die), she has the strange fire she kept hidden for eighteen years, she also have the Divine Technique - Heavenly Eye proclaimed third in the Divine Technique ranking, as well as superior body that I don't know what does, Nine Provinces Sea Star said that so far only she and Dean Zou of Yin Yang School possess, and she also have Half of Breath of soil (which is the thing Saint Changgen sealed), the whole breath of soil can make one become immune to all poison, I forgot what it does but it is apparently a good thing that kept a kingdom prominent, and then later in the story possess the Yin Yang Twin Fish (or koi, or idk I forgot) that can suppress the strange fire and it was said that what she has is only a tiny part of the real thing, but because the breath of soil needed to be sealed her K and G (Kun?, Gen? Anyway they start at K and G) can't be used, and because of that she can't refine the twin fish thus she can no longer use her generating core.

As for the ML, he is also possessive but the MC having been unloved her whole life only having one friend and even that friendship has to be kept a secret because their family have a feud, likes him like that. He is not the cold type ML, rather, at first he thought just like the others, her junior sister needs protection and so he does. Until he learned that she is a bad woman, he fell even more and thought to himself that she has never done him good (the MC is a schemer and does mastermind stuffs) and he did her all good but he still kept falling. He also isn't like those friendless ML's, and would get revenge when his friends got hurt or died (Taiyi apparently doesn't care if a disciple died as long as it's in the outer city, at most the person who killed would get a minus points) He's also got a dark backstory.

Right points, you can ignore that, it's basically just a useless thing that MC in her whole not whole year staying at Taiyi never raise. Points are said to be easier lost than gained, there's ABCD, d as the lowest and the freshmens, when they lost more points they could get expelled at Taiyi, it's basically a privilege sort of thing, and MC is eternally at D in my mind since there wasn't any mention of her being a C or B or A. <<less
