This one is super spicy, and I loved it sooooo much! Read this one when it first came out so it's been a while, Ik the author went back and edited stuff recently, but I last read this in 2019 so do excuse me if I don't remember anything.

Story:

Super, duper, ultra mega intriguing! There are just so many plotlines involved that when it all comes together in the end you're going to go "whoa, that was intense." It's a mainly mystery novel sprinkled with that good psychological stuff that keeps... more>> it intriguing, and the suspense at every turn is so juicy that it just makes you want to keep going. The plot does start somewhat slow, to be expected with exposition and all that good introduction stuff, but picks up about 10 chapters in. Similarly, the romance was a very slow-burn since the author mainly focused on connecting the overarching plot and telling a good story. However, the romance is pretty good with a whole enemies-to-lovers vibe to it that's just so *chefs kiss*.

Characters:

Characters are very flawed and imperfect, but that's what makes them genuine. The MC especially is suffering from heavy trauma that makes her character extra annoying in the beginning. You're not going to like her for the first 10-20 chapters or so, cause she seems arrogant, overly-sarcastic, and just a straight-up jerk sometimes. However, that's just a facade she uses to push others away and to prevent them from breaking down her carefully constructed walls. I won't go much into why she's like that (that would be major spoilers :)), but know that the MC is actually a very soft person on the inside. She's also very dedicated to her job and very reliable when the going gets tough. FL is similarly a complex character who acts all stoic but is actually very warm-hearted to most people. She knows when to set her foot down and does not back down in the face of injustice. Both women work in professions often dominated by men (forensics and criminal investigation) and the author does a good job at developing these characters in relation to their professions without making it seem like a "women can do better" kind of deal.

TLDR: There will be tears and lots of crying, but totally worth it in the end. <<less

I was scrolling through taobao and found the physical copy of this novel, I got artbaited and after scrolling through weibo for an hour or so, I came to the conclusion that I have to read this novel!!!

The plot of the novel is so meticulously crafted, when I say meticulous, I mean it. Everything ties up in the end and you just feel speechless as the author is truly a genius!!! I've only read 5 crime novels and this is one of the best that I have ever read, it... more>> all boils down to layered plotlines, intricate details and beautifully executed.

The author said that you might not like the MC first and they were right!! I couldn't bring myself to like her despite her being the main character, I was wondering how she would make me love Lin Yan and I have to say it, she's truly one of the best written characters!!! I truly have no words for Song Yuhang, she has my whole heart and soul.

The characters aren't perfect, they're flawed to such extent that it makes them more realistic, I felt that they weren't just characters from a novel I had read, as if I could meet them irl.

It has intriguing and thrilling cases, smart and not so delicate women who are very ruthless and can't stop bickering, s*xual tension, knives, amazing side characters, also, the main cp are so gorgeous and in love, did I say knives?

This is by far the most angsty novel I have ever read, it's a he, but after everything happens, at what cost? This made me realize how insignificant human lives actually are and even if you have the means, you can't always accomplish your goals : ( ((

I was full of tears when reading this and I couldn't stop crying, I had to take little breaks because my heart just couldn't take it anymore. Never reading this novel ever again, it still haunts me.... The pain and despair I felt, it's so vivid, I can't ever let it go : ((

Please do read it, it's worth the heartache and tears, I'll never reread this again, the author smashed my heart and made it into a paste, I still can't get over this sadness. If you love angst, it's for you~ <<less

I thought it would be some sweet fluffy yuri romance. So I started mtl this story. I have read this almost a year ago, my heart still aches whenever I remember this story. I am amazed at myself that I could read this abusive yuri romance! My heart hurts so much that, I couldn't bear it anymore and cried like a child for a fiction first ever in my life!
    • Victor Hugo's quote that Author said in her words"It is the human heart that generates the infinite light, and it is also the human heart that creates the boundless darkness" very suitable for this story. This quote also stabs my heart because I understand its meaning painfully after reading this novel.
    • You won't like MC at first, but as story progress she will at least leave a mark in your heart! I love Lin Yan (MC) so much She deserves to be cherished by FL.

First off, these two characters have the best s*xual chemistry, bar none, I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing. Like, ever. It is electrifying. I'm sure once they do the deed, my reading enjoyment may fade somewhat, but that is neither the fault of the writer nor the translator; it's just the way life works, unfortunately. It's the thrill of the chase. Once your prey has been caught, it's over. *sigh* Their verbal sparring is so much fun to read. The writer is very skilled at conveying their tête-à-tête...... more>> just all their little moments is thrilling to read. I'm gushing too much, aren't I? Anyway.

If you're a fan of true crime, this story should be right up your alley. I might be desensitized but the crimes and whatnot don't really affect me. However, if you're easily triggered by these kinds of things, be warned that a lot of this story will center around police work. There's a series of cases that they and their fellow colleagues will try to solve and along the way, through having to spend so much time together and also having to experience life and death situations on a daily basis, they develop a greater understanding of each other and as a result, become more comfortable and closer. It's all very natural and extraordinarily well written. Even though the translator warns us that this is MTL, it reads incredibly well. To me, anyway.

I can't state this enough: the story is very provocative and their interactions are so sensual and real. It's utterly amazing. At this point, I'm only a little over a third into the story. I'm really looking forward to reading the rest and I hope it continues to be as great as it currently is.

Pure quality. Read the fixed mtl up to chapter 93 but could not wait for the rest and switched to the mtl to finish the story. Will go back to little panda's uploads to properly finish the story.

Good writing and great characters - especially the leads. The romance is top tier too, almost wholesome and non-problematic compared to other baihe couples. Lots of angst
