I like it.. He doesnt gloss over his evil deeds with some hypocritical righteous facade. He cripple their cultivations, kills people and even devour their souls. He doesnt even discriminate against woman. And children when he kills. He isnt a hypocrite because he embrace his evil deeds. He is a badass.!

If you like to read how an evil person succeed in a xianxia world, then look no further.

Lots of unnecessary things written every chapter aka "fillers". Started off good but as the story goes on, you will be so annoyed by repetitive descriptions of the most useless thing unrelated to the novel. Describes realms and whatnot again and again and again and again. Mainstream plot; arranged marriage, break off, the other will make things difficult then receives a slap in the face aka smacking/killing of clan then back to the original repetition. I recommend this to those readers who are not looking for something new.

Edit: This novel... more>> is 70% explanation 30% story progression. Gave it 3 at first but I changed my mind, I will give it 2 overall. <<less

This author loves info dumps and stalling with his sentences. This story has a lot of pointless filler words to increase word count. Every paragraph is full of nonsense. This is a skill that a lot of Chinese authors brag about. They love being able to increase the word count with gibberish. They will overexplain and repeat everything in the story. The author will also change facts in the story at the drop of a hat. One time the MC said that they don't know about metallic poisons in this... more>> world. The next chapter the guy says they ate metallic poisons! He also said that two 4th Realm beasts are fighting and then changes it to the peak of the 3rd realm. The worst was when he said that the mc's soul passes the tribulation from traveling in the void even though his body was destroyed. Now his soul is supposed to be much stronger than his last life. It has also gained special abilities like absorbing others souls. Twenty chapters later the author said that the mc's soul was still injured but was now healed from being in the state of unification. But a couple chapters later the author says that the mc's soul is still injured from the tribulation and is not as strong as his last life. Everything the author says contradicts himself. You can't trust anything he says. He writes so much gibberish and doesn't remember a half of it.

Edite: I just finished chapter 25 and it gets worse. The MC is supposed to be an expert when it comes to meridians. It's been stated countless times that this world has a barbaric understanding of meridians. The MC can increase people's talent to the best in the world with his knowledge about it. He learned the magic worlds cultivation technique that only had 12 meridians and merged it with his own. Around chapter 25 the MC gets a better magic cultivation technique with 20 meridians and says it's useless because he already knows all the channels. Later on he says it's not useless and it will help him use the channels that he didn't dare to in his past life. This whole story just seems like total bs. All of chapter 25 was about explaining meridians. The author literally wasted a full chapter talking about nonsense.

Edit: The author changes how cultivation works and says you need to cultivate each element individually. You could be a 5th realm fire mage and only a 2nd realm lightening mage. This contradicts the author saying that the MC having all 8 elements speeds up his cultivation at the start of the novel. The author also finds a lot of excuses to slow down the mc's cultivation. The MC lied and said he would be in the 3rd realm before joining the Li clan. He doesn't reach the 3rd realm until chapter 57 because the author slowed down his cultivation so much. He was already at the 2nd realms 6th layer at the start of the novel. He spent about 10 days healing his broken meridians and then leveled up in like a day or two. Then he didn't reach the next layer until chapter 26. Here is a direct quote from that chapter

One must know that for these early stages, if it was not for the fact that he wanted experience it for a bit, he would have long since broken through to the 3rd realm in one breath.

But, there was no meaning in doing so because after the 3rd realm, he would still have to experience other things. If he got accustomed to it now and steadily reached the 3rd realm, the latter experiences would be much more relaxed.

Familiarity, understanding, and blending into this world was what Li Xuan's current need was.

Apparently he's also training his martial arts with spirit energy from people he kills. He says that's the only way to get it in this world.

Edit: The MC has the hots for underage girls. The age of consent in China is only 14 and these girls aren't even that old. It's pretty bad when your country considers 14 an adult and you still need younger girls. How sick can you get? <<less

Over all I'm liking the novel.

The things I disliked the most with this novel, so far, however is:

-that info dump at the start
-those god damn "experience of 20 years in the wilds" that constantly come up. God.*

... more>> "After living in the wilderness for twenty years, Li Xuan had long since understood the basic instinct of survival." Seeing this crap once or twice every other chapter is just *facepalm*

Either way I hope someone will pick this up again, because so far it has still been a (mostly) enjoyable read for me.

Note; Copied from chapter 75: "The more (spoiler) screamed, the more pleased Li Xuan felt. It seemed as though he would always have an indescribable feeling of excitement when he heard other people’s miserable screams when he mistreated them."

Basically this guy isn't any goody two-shoes, rather this guy is full of malice and unlike so many other protagonists he doesn't even think of himself as anything else.

Otherwise this novel is pretty much the same old, same old generic xianxia novels. <<less

Spoilers ahead.

This series suffers from the info-dump problem. In several chapters the author vomits paragraphs and paragraphs of factual descriptions. I truly feel for the translator who had to translate all these terminologies and technical terms. Soon after that we read paragraphs and paragraphs of the MC leveling up.

In between we have some brief events to outline the premise: a cultivation artist from another world transmigrated into the body of someone who was scorned by his fiance. Emerging from the combined consciousness, the dominant personality took over the body and... more>> began to fix his ruined cultivation, slapped the fiance and canceled the engagement, killed a guard and robbed two potential bullies of their belongings, all in the space of a few short chapters. We get a glimpse of his brutality, frying the brains of the victim.

For new readers of xianxia it might seem exciting but for seasoned readers it’s nothing new. The prose is nothing special and the MC seems like an oppressive bully once he regained his strength, not hesitating to immediately use it in an overbearing manner that might not be appealing to readers who want a deeper and more cunning MC. Readers might also be disturbed by descriptions of his hugs and kisses towards a much younger character, as well as his blatant physical attraction to his aunt. There was a potentially interesting minor character, the daughter of the brain-fried victim whom he had taken in to ostensibly harness her hatred (like Thorfinn and Askelaad from the manga Vinland Saga), but whatever interesting about her was wiped away when he all but obliterated her personality and brain-washed her to be a loyal servant instead on a sudden impulse.

It’s hard to think of the MC of anything other than a prime evil living in a world of evils. If you want to read about a ruthless person who does what he does and kill whoever he wants, you’ll find it here. Don’t expect words like justice, fairness and such to be associated with the MC. It should be noted that the translator was highly motivated at the start but as he read on he changed his mind (you see this gradual process in his translator’s notes) and dropped this series at ch.80. <<less

Most people might not like this work cause of how the MC's character is in the beginning, however in the raw it gets much more interesting though it takes a while around chapter 200.

I am however adding rating cause the Translator is doing a really good job in terms capturing the essence of terms and meaning.

The author pretty much took ideas from a couple novels and fused them into one.

The martial, or magical realms are way too vague and too many, not to mention hard to remember. The author also tries to explain something about meridians for martial qi/energy and meridians for magical energy, which is extremely hard to understand and mostly pointless to the story. On another note, the MC is extremely OP and I am pretty sure INSANE. If the MC was an insane person in a sane world, I could understand. But... more>> the MC is a crazy motherf*cker in an even crazier world. The other characters are well too underdeveloped and because of this their decision/actions are have to follow.

If you have yet to start reading it, DO NOT! <<less

Oh boy... was this novel was a mess...

It started out kinda interesting, mostly because of the MC but then things started spiraling out of control durning the mid-story.

MC was at first somewhat unique with how ruthless he was - slaughtering and torturing everyone that even looks his way, trampling on arrogant ants, brainwashing and raping girls without problem, he was actually more like a CN villain, but then, at some point he changed into your everyday, boring and average xianxia protagonist.

The biggest problem I had with the novel was with... more>> the story itself after it's mid-stage started. It started getting extremely confusing, MC was changing identities, he was going to different worlds all of a sudden and I couldn't really make out who was who and where was the story actually happening (the confusion part might be due to the bad quality of the mtl). Also the end was extremely bad with author making the MC go into a higher universe in the last 5 chapters and just axing the ending.

Overall, I would recommend reading only the first ~200 chapters and that's only IF you like ruthless MC's. <<less

Unfortunately, the series was dropped by the translator, but hopefully someone else picks it up. For the most part, I like the MC's ways of doing things, except when he used his baptizing technique on a couple of people he did not need to. I understand in the world of the MC, you have to kill your enemies' whole clan, but s*aves as well? Now, on the matter of beating up people that do not respect him, he actually had his reasons for doing so.

At beginning it was very enjoyable then just what happen the more soul the main character started to absorb the more tyrantly cruel he become.

I recommended this novel to those people who enjoy ruthless MC without any reasoning.

An interesting thing in this novel that I notice is There is no need to eat and drink for survivability.

A xianxia with an extremely unpleasant MC, to say the least. He takes bullying and hipocrisy up to a new level, all while being the strongest so there are no one that can restrain him (at least till chapter 40 which I've read). The good news, though, is that he is not raping anyone yet.
Even if we disregard MC personality, it's still difficult to find something that stands out from MER as it seems the author just throws in all cliches. Still, a good read if you need to... more>> fulfill your xianxia fix. <<less

Exposition is clumsy, obvious and forced in dialogues and monologues.

Info dumps.

Confusing mix of eastern and western names.

Cultivation realms lack imagination.

Main character seemed good at first, but then turns into a psychopath mu*derer and... child mol*station and in*est? wtf....

I give 3 stars just because the earlier part of the novel is good. The MC is a villain and just do whatever he want. Moreover, he's lolicon. He brainwash other to do his works. But after he in 6th realm, the brainwash became "cleanse" to make other become good people. (While it is just same as brainwash but making it sounds nice like MC is helping them by doing so) Then, after that it just became worse by making everybody praising MC and making him look like a good... more>> guy. I'm not against it if it is what MC planned but even the MC thought and act like he is a good guy. Even though after all those things he had done. The novel starting from this point he became like typical shounen MC that act for his "friends" and country. What he h*ll author, if he evil and the things he done is evil, then don't justifying all those thing and make MC a hypocritical junk. <<less

Ah this novel is like.. slightly cold beer. Kinda good, kinda meh~.
We follow a MC who use to be OP and did the s*upidest things for a women. then we get the new MC and all kinds of things change. It's pretty good at parts, then its pretty meh at other parts (Like explaining why hes powered up so quickly..) Anyways the plot's unique in a way and we get to see how f*cked up the old MC use to be.

I recommend this novel for anyone who likes... more>> op xianxia MC's... <<less

I honestly enjoyed this in the beginning. It started out like he was very worldly and since he always went on about being attuned with nature or something. But then he basically became chu feng/yun che. Which is good or bad depending on the reader I guess. Hate it, love it.

Heh it is just a combination of BTTH, MGA, ATG, ST, ToD&G. I gave it 4/5 only because I felt an urge to read something with really op protagonist and it fitted that need perfectly. Under normal circumstances I wouldn't even bother reading this.

Even names are strangely similar.

[Edit: APRIL 2016: In the raws, the story was apparently rushed by the author; it seems that he stopped caring about the series after a while. It became unpopular in China and was practically dropped... also no English translator since Jan. 2016 FYI; for these reasons, I don't expect anyone to pick it up... also CH 80 is a cliff...... fair warning]

So initially when I’d read the reviews for MER I was like, “huh? How can a Xianxia novel that has a ruthless world traveling bad-arse MC ~ who can... more>> technically be called strong from the start ~ have such a relatively poor rating on NovelUpdates?” That of course was before I decided to read the novel... truthfully, it’s by no means bad BUT... well... it’s not very great either. Basically, it comes down to two factors (aside from personal taste) :

1) It’s an amalgamation of several other Xianxias; most notably, it feels like a mixture of MGA, Stellar Transformations, ATG, and ToD&G. In short, MGA because of the settings, ST because of the absolutely insane over-exaggerations (e.g. insanely huge city populations of 100M plus people and habitable planets thousands of times the size of earth [among other things]), ATG because of the the initial sympathy you feel for the MC at the start of the novel and for the fact that our MC is a world traveler (although ATG’s MC is more like a time traveler... still, it’s a similar feeling) and ToD&G because of the fact that he knows just about everything from the start and hence becomes a strong early on. Naturally, going into this novel I actually thought that this mix would be a wonderful thing! After all, who gives a crap about originality when it comes to Xianxia; however, the problem was that none of these elements were done right... except for the exaggerations ~ way to go.

[Edit: fair warning, the MC is quite a bit more openly/blatantly ruthless than most Xianxia novel MCs]

Accordingly, this leaves me to point 2) the quality of writing (on the part of the author and maybe a little bit due to the translator) is unfortunately one of the poorest. That is, not only is the pinyin difficult to decipher/keep track of (authors’ fault), the real issue with the story is just that... the story is lacking in presence. For example, concerning exaggerations, far FAR too many times have I had to bend my reasoning/acceptance threshold for illogical and thoughtless ‘facts’ ~ it’s to the point where I’m just like, “Ok fine, it’s a Xianxia... it’s a Xianxia... Xianxias never make any sense anyways... ” It’s kinda unfortunate that it turned out this way because if this novel had better quality writing, I believe that my [issue 1] would actually be a plus instead of a minus! As you can tell I don’t care very much about originality.

[Edit: the writing does get better and it becomes less hard to understand somewhere between chapters 15 and 20 or so; having read up to chapter 70 now I can happily say that the story and writing quality have become much better and more transparent]

On the plus side, it does have all of those elements listed above (i.e. world traveler, know-it-all bad-arse/strong-from-start MC etc.) and so it has the potential to be an AMAZING Xianxia WOOT! After having sufficiently bashed it, I will not deny that I will be continuing to read this novel nonetheless. Accordingly, maybe it’s not the best Xianxia; however, I have a lot of hope for it and it’s definitely still worth a read.

Although I gave it 4, I’d rank it closer to 3.5 stars. <<less
