Yu Jiao wakes up one day to find herself transmigrated into the body of a poor rural girl, sold off in a marriage of luck to a sickly man.

Thinking she’s landed in a farming-romance novel, she throws herself into a simple life; treating patients, farming, and starting a business. Sleeves rolled up, she sets her sights on fortune and a peaceful life.

But the frail “brother” she married turns out to be anything but weak. He blazes through the imperial exams, climbs the ranks, and becomes a powerful, feared minister—ruthless, manipulative, and holding absolute sway over the court.

Only then does Yu Jiao realize… he’s the actual male lead of this drama, and she’s not the heroine of a farming novel. She’s the lucky woman who grabbed onto the golden thigh of the most dangerous man in the empire. And now, she’s also the only mistress of the mighty Yu household.

So this was a whirlwind of emotions for me. It started out strong and interesting and then gradually went downhill from there. I only managed to finish it because I was too close to the end so I just powered through it. I tried not to rate it too much based on my own preferences but how the characters and story was written, thus, my 3 star rating. If I was to describe this novel, I would say, this is the type of novel that if you had the same... more>> name as one of the cannon-fodder and write a bad review then you have a very good chance of getting transmigrated into it. Like, literally, the MC is a white-lotus, so you can be the real MC and expose her true colors. The ML has a weak presence compared to the tragic second ML (senior brother) so you can become the second ML's lover and crush him under you. There's a rebirth governor's daughter so you can become her and with knowledge of past life and the novel, choose a different path, etc.

One of the main reason why I gave this a more positive star rating instead of negative is because the story is interesting. The concept is a bit different, at least in the first half. I was hooked into reading it and wanted to see it through the end. But then it became cliche and I lost interest in the MC. I also don't like how the author wrote more about MC and the 2nd ML instead of the actual ML. I really liked MC and ML's interactions but you only got to see them in the 1st half of the novel and towards the end, it just really became MC and her senior brother. And the side characters along the way, in the beginning they were fun to read about, but towards the end, there were more and more villain cannon-fodders instead of fleshed out characters that it also became boring to read.

Overall, if you think the synopsis is interesting and want to read it, then be aware that there's a second part of the story that's not part of the synopsis. The second and biggest part of the story is that MC transmigrated after closing her eyes and becomes Meng Yu Jiao in another world. This is not a novel that she read or anything, actually I don't think it's even a novel so that part is misleading. It's just another era and MC seems like a strong woman at first, but you learn pretty quickly that she had a master and a senior brother in her past life which she learn her medical skills from. And it's this "senior brother" that just persists throughout the novel because he actually died saving her from a patient who wanted to kill her. So she's always blamed herself for his death. And this is known to the reader pretty quickly so it's not like a last minute thing or anything but it's not until a bit later that you find out that, ta-da, senior brother is alive in this era and also transmigrated. Anyways, if you don't mind stories with two MLs then you can give this a try. It's not like the 2nd ML can really come between ML and MC but it's just annoying to read especially since, to me, MC is a bit of a white-lotus and can't make up her mind because she "doesn't want to hurt senior brother" even though senior brother is obviously crazy.

MC:

Spoiler

So in the beginning, our MC seemed like a strong character who has stable beliefs but the longer the story goes on, the more she seems like a white-lotus. There are soooooo many times where someone hates her and shows it and even tries to kill her and she'll be like, I need to be careful of this person next time, but then that same person shows a bit of kindness and she lets down her guard and BAM, falls into a trap. Like omg gurrllll, for someone who claims to have seen the worst in humans, why don't you know how to prepare for a rainy day and just literally rely on the plot to save her?? Both MC and ML threatens the villain cannon-fodders for like 80% of the novel only to never actually end up doing anything until the very end it's like, they're all talk and no action. Like literally, it's so annoying that one of the villains, Yang Jiyan, has tried to kill MC twice and still she stays alive and well until the very end. And it's even worse that even through YJ gets her plans foiled again and again, she's still braindead and believes she can still marry ML for the majority of the novel. Her only golden finger is that she was reborn again but she's just only obsessed with marrying ML for fame and glory and it seems the author just keeps her around to have another cannon-fodder and an explanation for ML's past life.

It's also annoying that MC becomes a higher rank than some of the villains but said she despises using her power to pressure but then later admits she's using her power to pressure anyways (not like she actively does it but she has it and so she's not bullied anymore but yet, it's contradictory when the author wrote in the beginning about how terrible it is when power disparity is so huge). So it's really sad to me because I really liked MC at the very beginning. She would tease ML because he was just a pure, old-fashion guy who didn't know anything about love while she came from the modern world, is a doctor, and has probably seen everything. Yet, towards the end, she just starts to become more like someone who didn't come from the modern world and was a sheltered little girl raised in the backyard. What irritates me the most is that she seemed so strong and independent and is a woman doctor and a businesswomen but then once she meets her senior brother, suddenly her life story is a little girl who was protected by her master and senior brother and can't do anything on her own because senior brother did everything for her. And even at the very end when everything settles down, the new emperor (her cousin) just wants her to be a pampered princess and do nothing. So the MC is very disappointing to me.

She seems kind and smart but then the author will just make her randomly dumb at certain points. Like, she can read the stars and tell that there will be a flood in the next few months. Yet, after the flood then she never read the stars again. Or she's so smart that she can diagnosis and treat ML's poison but yet she's helpless when treating her cousin-in-law. In the beginning, the MC seemed to be very straightforward with her patients, yet at the end, she just straight up hides things on the pretense of it being "better for them". I was very disappointed with her cousin-in-law story. He was dying of poison and she knew it and she could have helped him when she first diagnosis him but she just kept quiet about it to both the cousin and the family. I think if she had mentioned it, maybe it would be a different story because the cousin had a glimmer of hope knowing that she's a great doctor but then that hope was dashed after thinking she didn't know he was poisoned. So he continued with his plan and ended up in a dead-end. And the author just kept going on and on about this as if to justify MC while killing off the cousin, so having MC leave the capital then cousin getting terminally sick, then MC not returning to the capital even after getting a letter that cousin was dying, then when MC returned to the capital the cousin-in-law was still alive but now MC can't do anything because it's too late, yet cousin-in-law ends up living for several more months in order to see his child being born before dying. It's really so confusing that the author let him linger so long and make the MC so useless as a doctor. And then there was that time MC went into the palace to treat the imperial concubine and she didn't want to mention that IC was poisoned and that's why she can't have children but she was threatened by IC with her marriage so she had to admit that and help with the poison. YET, MC suddenly becomes the goddaughter of the Grand Eunuch and can "walk sidesways" but still allows herself to be threaten. Alright.

So yeah, I don't like the MC that much. I'm very disappointed with her character development.

ML:

Spoiler

My favorite character is personally the ML because he seems the most stable throughout the whole novel. There was a part where MC and ML had a fight and even through it was stressful to read through, I understood what the author was trying to get to and was showing how, even in the most stable relationships, two people in love can still make mistakes. So if I was to choose someone I liked most, it would probably be ML. But, on the other hand, ML doesn't actually have that much screentime. The first part of the novel was mainly about MC then the last part of the novel was mainly about.... her senior brother. Which is very disappointing because even though both ML and 2nd ML are possessive CEO types, ML is much better because he doesn't actually resort to kidnapping and withholding MC's freedom. Yet, at the end when ML and 2nd ML fight, you can obviously see that MC still shows more concern about 2nd ML. I guess, you can say MC knew she was going to end up with ML anyways so she'll be more worried about 2nd ML who has no one to care for him, but at the same time, ML is going to be your partner for the rest of your life and if you really love him, shouldn't you try to understand his feelings too and make him happy? So yes, you can care for 2nd ML but you can't care to the point that ML is very unhappy. It's not fair if ML is unhappy to make you happy when you can't be unhappy to make ML happy right? Idk, I just thought MC doesn't really treat ML as well as ML treats MC. I don't think the author wrote the story in a fair way for ML so that was disappointing.

2nd ML:

Spoiler

I honestly, cannot like how this guy was written. He's the Grand Eunuch and also MC's senior brother who transmigrated before she did. He's a moody guy and had so much power including guns and cannons yet was defeated by a weaker ML. SMH. I think he only lost because the author wanted him to. Even the voices in his head turned out to be Gu bugs yet the author tried to make it so mysterious. He misunderstood who the MC was until the end, then ofc there was the cliche kidnapping + (fake) amnesia leading to the battle where he loses to ML and it was all planned by another Taoist priest that he had locked up years ago. He gets shot by the ML with an arrow through the chest but is saved by MC thus, MC no longer owes him a life. And finally, he gets an extra story where maybe he might have a happy ending with some palace maid years ago who has been following him ever since he was a teenager. Idk man, at first the author portrayed him as very evil who kills without blinking but suddenly, he can't even strangle a scheming girl to death. Even if he knows certain people have bullied MC after learning who MC really is, he doesn't kill anyone for her. Instead he just opts to kidnap MC and flee the country with her. OOF. It's really disappointing to me how much screentime MC and 2nd ML had to the point where it's easy to just switch him to the ML instead if the author really wanted it.

Omg wtf I'm so pissed.

I read about 106 chapters and I'm so mad about how things are progressing.

The ML is an absolute useless piece of wood.

Reasons I hate this piece of shit

Spoiler

1) The grandma and grandpa give the FL a super hard time and this spineless man never, absolutely NEVER stood up for her. She is his wife but he always looks at the argument going as if it didn't concern him. He just stands in the corner like a rock and does ABSOLUTELY nothing.

2) He is sick, but this baggage wanted to go with her in the mountains to search for medicine. This piece of sh*t was of no help and just slowed the journey of the FL. She had to give her umbrella and was soaked in rain because this genius of a man didn't bring his own umbrella but instead wore two layer of clothing WHICH WERE NOT EVEN WATERPROOF! Dumb piece of rock. And after that he got fever and FL had to take care of him in the cave. I mean, if you can't be of any help, then atleast don't be a baggage.

3) Before the FL transmigrated, the ML didn't even glance at the original owner let alone acknowledge her as his wife. But after the FL came, he suddenly started being 'good' to her. Which looked rather forced and unnatural.

4) Before he married the FL, apparently he had talks about marrying some other girl, but her family rejected him because he was sick. But his sister thought that he liked that other girl and kept saying him to leave the FL and marry her in the beginning, but this guy never NEVER gave a firm answer like 'no, I don't like her. So stop saying nonsense.', but he just kept quiet or gave some random answer which made her misunderstand that he liked that girl. And his vague reply lead to not only his sister, but a lot of other people to misunderstand too. Pu*sy ass b*tch.

[collapse]

And the family. Man, don't even get me started. They are most obnoxious, blood sucking, selfish, s*upid bunch of people.

Spoiler

So the FL has medical skills and she helps cure people and stuff. The MLs grandpa is also a doctor, but he is not a good one. So whenever any patients come to his house he asks the FL to cure him and takes the credit himself. He says that the FL is his disciple and learning from him and that she is a girl so her name can't be said, blah blah and convinces the people to not say that it was the FL who did the work, but him.

And once when he diagnosed a patient without knowing the right situation and gave that patient the medicine that the FL had given to a previous similar patient. But unfortunately this patients case was different so when this person was not cured, their family came to trouble the grandpa. But he, who usually took credit of all her work, pushed everything onto the FL, saying it was her prescription.

This is just the grandpa. The others are shameless and infuriating in their own way.

But the most annoying thing about this whole thing is that, the FL DOES NOT STAND UP FOR HERSELF. I seriously don't know what she was thinking. But the whole time the old man took credit of her work, she didn't say a thing and went along with his act. At first I was like ok, she had nowhere to go and no money so she had to wait for some time before she can have a say. But NO, even after she earned enough money to leave or earn her freedom (her mom sold her to the ML's family.), she didn't leave. She STAYEDDD. Like girlll whyy?? I really couldn't understand her thought process. She could have very well considered to convince the ML to seperate their family and live on their own, BUT SHE DIDNT. Omg, at first I was cursing the old man and others, but as the story progressed, I started cursing the FL. Because before she was helpless, but later she wasn't, but still she didn't do anything about her situation so I didn't feel sorry for her. Because she didn't take the right decisions.

Oh, and yeah, during this whole time the ML was still doing nothing to stand up for the FL, useless piece of rock, a utterly disappointing piece of wood, uhh, God I want to go and slap some sense into him. That s*upid useless baggage. I know later he will grow strong and blah blah, but right now the FL needs him but he chooses to be a wall decoration and just hang there like an expressionless piece of stone.

[collapse]

I am so mad. The whole time there was not one chapter that didn't not make me breathless due to how suffocating and frustrating it was. Absolutely, ABSOLUTELY one of the worst reads ever.

The only reason I even read till ch 106 was because I was hoping for things to get better, but NO, they just keep getting worse.

I absolutely LOATHE each and every character, their interaction, the story line, the plot, the background and even the passing dog on the street in this novel.

Please DONT read this. In my whole life of reading a novel, I have never ever wished there was a negative rating option as much as I do now. Pissed the f out of me. Man, my blood is boiling because of how s*upid and time wasting this thing was. I need to cool off. <<less
