“Hey, Hoshikawa, want to check out this best-selling novel, Life in the Reverse World?”

“Life in the Reverse World? What’s it about?”

“Right now it’s about some extroverted pretty-boy, living the dream high school life surrounded by cute girls.”

“That’s ridiculous. Doesn’t the author feel embarrassed writing that stuff?”

“The author would probably say you’re the shameless one.”

“Please. Don’t go making snap judgments when you clearly don’t understand the greatness of Hoshikawa Harutaki.”

Demon King Nogami Izumi’s loyal hound.

Shikata Chouko’s beacon of freedom.

The infamous s*umbag of Nichiya High.

Tokyo’s most passionate lover.

The boy whose first kiss and v*rginity reset every 24 hours.

The one and only, peerless in loyalty— Little Hoshikawa, Harutaki himself.

All content in this work is unrelated to reality; it is entirely fictional, set in another world. √

Hey, I’m Karaage, the translator for this novel

Among novels of the ‘reverse (Inner) world” genre, this one truly stands. It’s not one of those trend-chasing works written just for the sake of fanservice. The author’s writing is strong, the worldbuilding is relatively complete, and the reinterpretation of the female characters’ personalities makes them feel far more realistic but not OOC. After all, a doujin is just a doujin, it’s mainly about the artwork.

The emotional development is also exceptionally well done

The story opens with Nogami Izumi, who if you have ever... more>> read the doujin (fukushuu saimin) isn’t very likable. Yet that’s exactly what makes her such a fascinating starting heroine. Her initial arc delivers one of the most satisfying moments in the story, a “revenge” (not mind control (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)) that perfectly captures the thrill of retribution, intelligence, and control. It’s the kind of scene that pulls you in completely. At that point, I was already impressed with how alive her character felt.

Spoiler

At a later time, Izumi confesses the wrongs she committed in the past, the broken doll, the boy named Haru, and these are tied to Harutaki sister’s memories of a once-happy family.

It reminded me of a detective story where, just when you think the case is solved, the camera pans to reveal a deeper, darker truth.

[collapse]

Since this is more or less a kind of fanfic with most FMC from doujins instead of anime, unless you are an avid doujin reader, you most likely would have never heard or seen them before.

But luckily the author do provide images for them, but only some though, since you can’t expect the author to just post nude images on the chinese novel platform (≖_≖). For those who want to check out the original doujin for themself (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°), I will be making a separate chp post for the names of them on inovel.

And also quoting from the author ‘You can think of the heroines as different versions of the same people, same names, same appearances, similar personalities, and partly shared experiences, just not exactly the same characters.’ (Be sure to check the author’s notes in Ch47, it includes interesting insights and extra details about the story!) <<less
