Lu Shizhen transmigrates into a novel as a villainess who covets the heroine and is bound to a system called ‘Heaven Gives Me Another Chance.’ In the novel, the heroine Xu Shiyue was once a favored daughter of heaven but was betrayed by her uncle, leading to her parents’ deaths and her own blindness. The villainess, who had long coveted Xu Shiyue, takes advantage of her vulnerability, promising protection but ultimately revealing her true colors. The heroine, turned into a ‘Black Moonlight,’ cripples the villainess and leaves her to die in a fire. Facing the now-blind Xu Shiyue in her original character’s home, Lu Shizhen and her system fall silent.

Lu Shizhen: ‘Is there any hope?’

System: ‘Let’s give it a try.’

Determined to change the tragic fate, Lu Shizhen rolls up her sleeves and decides to turn the tide. She brings in top doctors to treat Xu Shiyue’s blindness and provides the best guide dog. Whatever Xu Shiyue needs, Lu Shizhen is willing to give, even if it means plucking the moon from the sky. People say Lu Shizhen is a capricious madwoman, but to Xu Shiyue, she becomes the only person she can rely on in her blurred vision. Finally, Lu Shizhen reaches the end of her storyline. On the night Xu Shiyue takes over the Xu family, Lu Shizhen fakes her death with the system’s help and escapes to enjoy a new life.

That night, the ruthless Xu family heiress stands in the snow, staring at the charred corpse, her eyes red like a mad dog. Rumors spread that Xu Shiyue hated the madwoman who imprisoned her so much that she scattered her ashes without even a grave. Passing by, Lu Shizhen loses her appetite for her dumplings and quietly moves her retirement plans further away. Years later, Lu Shizhen hears that the guide dog she gave Xu Shiyue is dying and quietly returns to her original home, only to run into Xu Shiyue, who shouldn’t still be living there. On a quiet spring night, the sound of the door locking is particularly clear.

Xu Shiyue: ‘Where do you think you’re going?’

For the majority of the story, I was hooked. Unputdownable. My sleep schedule suffers, whenever I stop reading to eat, I rush through my meals just so I can get back to this novel ASAP. The novel consumed my life and I'm simultaneously relieved and sad when I found out I had reached the final chapter.

Now, the semi-proper review. As of this review, there are 172 chapters that had been released by Elite Translations Team. I'm not sure if there'll be more extras or that is all of them, but... more>> the main story is definitely done and the extras are entertaining too.

The story doesn't divert too much from the typical transmigration trope, so it's hard for me to pinpoint exactly what had me so entranced with this novel. Their relationship grows slowly as Lu Shizhen works hard to clear her name and build her relationship with Xu Shiyue. I enjoy their interactions with the people around them, particular Lu Shizhen and her family.
Spoiler

It was a pleasant surprise to realize that the family still appears rather prominently in late story, considering in this kind of novels, the family is usually forgotten pretty quickly.

The novel has some funny moments, cute bonding moments, but mainly touching moments as they grow into their own persons and with each other. I teared up, I chuckled, I grieved and soared with the characters. The author did a great job painting the characters' emotional turmoil and dilemma.

There are some confusing moments, which I would attribute to the translations, particularly when they're introducing their nickname somewhere in the middle of the story. It doesn't take away from the story though.

All in all, I'd definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a modern day transmigration story. <<less

and the author does a good job in describing the FL's state of mind and is consistent with the mindset, slowly she feels things and ultimately she recognises what these feelings are early on.

When the MC does fake her death,
Spoiler

The author does a good job of showing how her 'death' had affected the FL and her family. Lots of heartache scenes of how much they love her and miss her, the regret they felt when they lost her. And the agony when they didn't want to accept that she was gone.

But what gave me a 4/5 for was
Spoiler

towards the ending, you can see what the author was trying to do to get them to be together, but it was too draggy, it took 20-30 chapters portraying how bad lord god is, how to kill her, maybe kill her? Come back a different way to kill her, try to kill her again, until they do kill her but ultimately, finally get separated into a different world to find each other again. It's great seeing their love but spending 1/2 of the novel redeeming the character, 1/5 of it coming back and finding their love and 1/4 trying to kill Lord God is a bit tooooo draggy.

But ultimately, this is a good read for me, thank you author and thank you translator. <<less

9/10 rounded up

This whole story had me in a tight grip, it is really addicting. The emotions of the characters are described beautifully. I felt the whole spectrum of fun, sweet and painful moments together with them.

Lu Shizhen and Xu Shiyue were wonderful. They made me feel very homely 🥺... When the angst wasn't stabbing my heart.

Speaking of stabbing my heart - That scene where Xu Shiyue was stabbing the Lord God with the rose was amazing!! Although the fight felt a little out of place in the whole picture of the story, it still was epic and I enjoyed raeding it.

The way how this transmigration/isekai got tied up was also really satisfying, with things making more and more sense as the story progresses.

What left me wondering though...

Spoiler

was Lu Shizhens original family, after she left her world. Especially her sister Lu Xi. It seemed they had a decent relationship, so I felt sad and a little lost after Lu Shizhen left.
