The door to adventure opens.

An adventure named misfortune.

“No one is born into this world because they wanted to.

Misfortune is the same.

It isn’t something you get to choose.”

“Silver, a beast of the bottom”

“I’ll finish it. Just wait a moment.”

“Wolf, a young man on the borderline”

[The clown begins to spin.]

And then, even a strange adventure they never could have imagined.

They fall into a world of adventure that can’t be turned back.

Yet they are instinctively drawn… As if a lock left neglected for a long time, slowly rusting away, has finally found its key. Even before the magic stirred by scent has time to begin.

Everything is a mess.

Everywhere is a scene of chaos.

It’s hell.

I'll start off by saying the author, Amagin, excels at world-building and characterization. As you read this novel, you just get s**ked in to the world and become attached to the characters in their journey. I've read one of their other works (WDEA) and while I couldn't quite stomach some of the content, it also did an amazing job in making the world and characters feel real.

Anyways back to Hell Execution Order, I guess the best way to describe it so far would be a coming of age hero's journey... more>> with grim-dark fantasy world vikings (sort of) and a dash of omegaverse thrown in?
Spoiler

As hinted by the novel cover and name, there's also some sci-fi shenanigans going on which I've not been able to figure out yet that adds a layer to the mysteries of the world.

[collapse]

Character-wise, both of the main pair are portrayed with a lot of depth. Wolf initially gave off naive puppy-like vibes, but eventually becomes a pillar the group relies on. Silver felt cold and ruthless at first, but you soon start seeing how incredibly straightforward and honest he is. The novel swaps perspectives between the two main leads, and I love how it actually uses different formatting to differentiate the language being spoken. Right now, romance is more on the back burner as there's a lot of tense/high stakes situations going on with the plot (though you can definitely tell the leads are attracted to each other). That being said I think I only wrapped up what feels like act 1 so far, and it feels like this is going to be a long novel. All in all, this has been a pretty good read so far, and I'm really looking forward to what comes next. <<less
