Three months ago, Shen Chuo had a one-night stand in Las Vegas, got a marriage certificate on a whim, and then left the matter behind without a second thought.

Three months later, Shen Chuo encountered his “husband” again at a signing ceremony for a school-enterprise cooperation. The man’s le*d gaze lingered on his butt, and he even whistled.

Shen Chuo: “…”

Now he regrets it, regrets it very much. – Pei Tingyue x Shen Chuo, a true scoundrel x Pretending to be decent, lawyer x professor, love after marriage

This is one of my favorite tropes: one night stand → marriage → meeting again → enemies/tense relationship → turning into love.

Pei Tingyue is portrayed exceptionally well—not just as a “cool guy, ” but also as someone manipulative, morally grey, and perhaps shaped by a harsh past, which makes him more inclined toward toxic relationships. Meanwhile, Shen Chuo, as a lecturer, strongly upholds honesty and integrity. In today’s world, it’s actually rare to find someone in academia who is truly sincere and principled. Shen Chuo firmly believes in justice, likely... more>> because his mentor’s teachings are deeply rooted in him.

Bringing these two together as a couple is what makes the story so compelling. Pei Tingyue can learn what a healthy and genuine relationship looks like through Shen Chuo, while Shen Chuo gains a deeper understanding of reality—that the world is not as ideal as he believes, that not all justice is truly fair, and not everyone is good.

Even though Shen Chuo can be a bit annoying at the beginning.

For me, this story deserves an 8.9/10. It’s not too heavy, but not too light either.

I quite like it despite some imperfections, as those are the ones that made it likeable for me.

The settings is not the current times, where acceptance of LGBTQ+ is high. Therefore, expect ostracism in the the story. Fortunately, it didn't went detailed with it as I know I would cry at those scenes.

The two protagonists have their own pros and cons. They have the likeable trait, and the not likeable part. It's actually nice to see how they embrace and protect each other's imperfections.

The plot isn't new; marriage first and... more>> love later. Although their marriage isn't really valid at first. The execution is what made it nice to read. There's a lot happening but it doesn't go overboard with it.

Overall, I rated it a 4/5 and I recommend it if you like this kind of novels. <<less
