From a young age, Song Siyun couldn’t stand Gu Yanzhou-everyone in the capital knew it.

She said outright, “He’s a jinx. Whoever gets close to him is bound to be unlucky.”

Never did she expect that a single imperial edict of marriage would bind the two most incompatible people together.

At the palace gates, Song Siyun stopped Gu Yanzhou, who wore a white robe, his brows and eyes cold and stern, yet a faint smile lingered at his lips.

Through gritted teeth, she said, “I won’t marry you. Go cancel the engagement!”

The bright yellow imperial decree slipped from her hand, only to be caught by the man, who narrowed his eyes and smiled as he returned it. “A marriage bestowed by the Son of Heaven cannot be defied.”

An answer she had expected.

Song Siyun curled her lips, her eyes filled with undisguised mockery. “Since you’re such a coward, then after we marry, keep your tail tucked. That way, at least we can maintain appearances.”

“Couldn’t ask for more.” Those were the only four words Gu Yanzhou left behind as he departed.

But later, within the bed curtains, the young woman’s slender fingers tapped lightly against his nose as she teased softly, “So this is what Minister Gu meant by ‘couldn’t ask for more’?”

The man raised his hand, gathering her fingertips into his lips and teeth, his words muffled as he shamelessly reneged, “My lady once said we would not interfere with each other either.”
