After internet trolls once again claimed that Yu Yao wasn’t good enough for Wei Ruyue, Yu Yao decided to quit the entertainment industry and break up.

Wei Ruyue was such a wonderful person; without her as a “fake” ex-girlfriend, she would surely find someone perfect for her in every way. Or so she thought.

Yu Yao never expected that the next time she woke up, she would be trapped inside a cage made of solid gold. She frantically searched for a way out, only to look up and see Wei Ruyue walking through the door.

Wei Ruyue’s hand gently caressed her cheek, her eyes filled with a dark, suffocating intensity.

“Don’t be afraid,” Wei Ruyue said, stepping closer and wrapping Yu Yao in a tender embrace. “You aren’t allowed to leave.”

The cage door clicked shut without a sound. Caught in that tight embrace, Yu Yao heard the unmistakable sound of the lock engaging. She was trapped.

With the help of a “friend,” Yu Yao managed to escape. To pay off her debt of gratitude, she put her retirement plans on hold and joined a reality dating show.

However, strange things began to happen. Almost every night, Yu Yao couldn’t sleep; she felt as if something sticky and serpentine was wrapping around her in her dreams. In a haze, she would open her eyes and catch a glimpse of a pitch-black shadow flickering before her. Yet, the security cameras in her room showed absolutely nothing.

…Maybe it’s just the high humidity in the mountains and the swaying tree shadows, she thought, trying to reassure herself. I’m just not used to it.

Yu Yao focused on her work, doing her best to stay professional. But then, Wei Ruyue appeared as a surprise guest on the show.

The producers informed Yu Yao that, as the only contestant with zero votes, she had to “win over” Wei Ruyue and complete a date with her within a set time limit, or face a severe penalty.

Biting the bullet, Yu Yao reached out to take Wei Ruyue’s hand, eyes cast downward, too afraid to look the woman in the eye.

“Let’s… let’s go on a date.”

Wei Ruyue chuckled softly and took her hand. Even her shadow seemed to reach out and embrace Yu Yao’s shadow.

Yu Yao: “……?”

Wait, did that just hug me?

As Yu Yao stood frozen in place, a tentacle suddenly sprouted from Wei Ruyue’s shadow and curled curiously toward her. Yu Yao looked up, meeting Wei Ruyue’s gaze. The tentacle slithered along the shadow, slowly gripping her hand, the familiar, sticky sensation wrapping around her.

“Don’t ever leave me,” Wei Ruyue whispered.
