At the tip of the man’s sword, the corner of the glass tank, where not a speck of light had penetrated, cracked with a sound.

Dark hair and dark eyebrows like the jet-black sea. Underneath, golden eyes shaped like the full moon stared slowly at the mermaid.

“Take it out. Alive.”
He saved her from the darkness.

“Melusine. That is your name from now on.”
The man gave her a name.

She could watch him all night, every day and never get tired of it.

“It’s good…”
It’s as if ripples were tickling around her lips. It felt like it was flowing down her heart.

The woman had a hunch. She finally met her long-awaited serendipity, her destiny.

Spoilers ahead
Spoiler

The story might be good ahead but I dropped the novel, more like I had to take a break after reading chp 23-26, the male lead literally r*ped her, for something she didn't even do?

She literally didn't like it and wanted to stop it, but the way he roughly pulled and widened her legs and pulled her hair... it actually triggered me.

Korean authors have no sense and they never put a warning or tag.

Anyways let me explain how he ended up raping her:

(I am explaining from chp 22-25 pls take it with a grain of salt since I read it roughly)

-> She requested him to take her to the sea, and him being generous took her to the sea

-> Since she immediately got converted to the mermaid she went a little deep and she took few more minutes to enjoy the sea.

-> this triggered the obsession in the male lead after he didn't see her body, mf didn't even wait for few minutes and told his subordinate (Ian) to get her dead or alive, he said it's okay to kill her.

-> the moment they went to sea she came out, and when she came back, she was naked, he put his sword on her neck and he almost slitted her neck, but ended up cutting her hair.

-> and this is where we come at the description where he holds her chin and tells he she won't go back to sea.

-> then he covers her roughly and immediately takes her back to castle, he thinks it might be because he was too easy on her that it ended up like this, mf she didn't even try to escape what r u blaming her for?

-> and then the r*pe starts

-> their first kiss, which was before chp 20 was very rough, he actually roughly bit her tongue, that she literally felt the pain.

-> thanks to the lovely reader who provided the further spoilers I was able to skip the chapters and read the latest chapters, there is next to no communication between the leads, even the Korean readers were complaining about that

-> all he does is have s*x with her, readers say he softened (?) Up with her but I don't see that's the case, he sleeps with her frequently, so the man will tend up sweeten up to her, not to mention she almost got r*ped by that Emperor so his protective (?) Instincts woke up?

-> it's similar to softening up to the new pet that you bought after spending loads of time with it.

-> 60 chps in (in raws) she still can't speak, more like she has difficulty in 'communicating' she knows the words, she can 'talk' but not 'communicate'

I know this is r19 novel, and things like r*pe, and dark things are tend to come, but it wouldn't matter much to the author if she gave a small, very small warning that there is r*pe, animalistic s*x, violent s*x, what triggered me was the pulling of the hair and her feeling repulsed, yeah she felt repulsed even though she was totally in love and wanted to have his child.

Anyways later she went with the flow and the factor that she wanted to become pregnant helped in coping up.

(Will people attack me saying that she is a fish so don't put human ethics on her or he is confused right now but he'll sure redeem himself? I am curious, I know the cover is insanely beautiful but will readers just support the male lead even after he r*pes?)

The Spoilers I mentioned are till chp 26 he does many horrible things in future as mentioned in Spoiler forum, looking how much messed up he is, it would be better if she doesn't ends up with him or anyone, but we know what we will be fed with.

PS: I forgot to mention but he sees the FL as a s*upid fish (he refers to her as a s*upid fish in his monologue and he sees her as an object, he actually doesn't care if she dies, as long as he has her body. Okay can we pls have male leads who see FL as a living thing? Thank you)

I understand why some people would dislike this because of the yandere tones, and yeah, I admit, that is toxic, but don’t let that deter you from reading this, especially if you’re into the yandere/obsessive genre. The male lead doesn’t r*p3 her at all, the only negative feelings the female lead has when they do the deed is if it hurts, otherwise, she doesn’t seem to have a problem with it. As a matter of fact, Melusine (the female lead) wants to do the deed with Kieron (male lead). Aside... more>> from the time she loses her v**ginity, she initiates most of the intimate scenes they have together. So no, there is no r*p3, rest assured. The story is rather beautiful for me, the previous review says they stopped reading it fully, but I’ve read the entirety of the novel, and from what I understood, the story is about a naive mermaid and a closed off man finding love in an unorthodox way. They want to be together with one another, but many obstacles stops them from doing so, ML being stuck in an arranged marriage, and FL being a mermaid that can’t survive without sea water.

Its beautifully written, even as I read it from an MTL, the way everything is described touches my heart.

One can argue the author infantilizes the FL but she’s a mermaid who has never been to the surface world, naturally, she would be naive, she doesn’t understand how humans and society works after all.

My only problem with this is that the Emperor who is a terrible person, did not receive a worse fate. He traumatized Melusine and all he got was a beating from Kieron, he deserves more than just that. <<less
