Pretty average CN revenge. MC was betrayed by those he thought were his companions so he gets brought back in time with his nemesis and they cooperate to take revenge on everyone. The worldbuilding is kind of all over the place with mana, cultivation, holy spells, and a level-based system of power all crammed into one area without understanding how they interact. There's also way too much time spent on the other characters showing their disdain for the MC because he replaced their beloved original hero. It's to the point... more>> that I feel like it may end up being a plot point about otherworldly mental manipulation, but all I know right now is that takes up 20% of each chapter and makes it a chore to read through. <<less

This one is mid it reminds me of that Japanese soyboy protagonist archetype. Pretty weird considering this is a Chinese novel. If you're looking for that domineering and suave avenging protagonist who's no longer a pushover. This ain't for you or you'll end up unsatiated frustrations like me.

I'm also unable to grasp why they hating on the MC just because they liked the 1st hero. MC isn't even a s*umbag against them to begin with. Plus, there's that "we're on the verge of being overrun so we need your help... more>> hero" bullsh*t again but I do not feel that any of the characters nor the events happening fit the narrative. Existential threats would usually illicit a united front to counter it but its absence here reflects the author's lack of understanding with collective psychology. There's no elaborate plan for his revenge as well, the MC is a reactionary protagonist most of the time.

The protagonist is supposedly portrayed as overpowered, with a status panel that quantifies power levels to enforce that but he comes out as a big moron. Yet it is often overshadowed because the MC likes "playing as a pig to eat the tiger", basically he voluntarily likes to fake he's a soyboy pushover. Easily manipulated by the big players before giving them a big slap, rinse and repeat. This supposedly goes on for like 400 chapters and holy crap it's so frustrating.

Relationship dynamics: a lot of screentime is given as the antagonists diss the MC, when the face-slapping comes, it leaves me quite unsatisfied. Well haven't reached 400 chapters so might change my mind. The romance is quite bland as well. Pretty disappointing from an author who's already married and can't even write a character who can flirt with cheesy lines at the right time.
Spoiler

At c163, MC has 3 lover heroines and 3 friendly heroines yet it's mentioned the MC still wants to go home so I'm befuddled lol.

Writing, there's a lot of glaring inconsistencies for a novel using a Western fantasy template. The Crown Prince isn't the Crown Prince but called the Grand Prince. The former connotates the direct inheritor of the throne while the latter is usually superseded by a King or an Emperor, "first among equals". <<less
