“Excuse me. …Do you perhaps, recognize me?”

The man who spoke to Jungjoon was a complete stranger. Despite having an outward appearance that wouldn’t connect him to Jungjoon, a single father.

Jungjoon searched his memories, trying to place the man who implied he knew him. Only after dredging up his pitiful past could he overlay the face of a child who had clung to him with an unsettling obsession.

A reunion after 17 years. It was a time span that made it even more improbable that any trace of the past would remain. The small child had become a grown man.

⟡˖ ࣪

“I understand… why you’re doing this. We… grew up without parents, lived lives several times harder than others….”

“…….”

“We had no choice but to rely on each other…. And we were each other’s only family…. So… the affection you received from me, you must suddenly miss it, long for it. Yes… that’s completely understandable.”

“…You’re right. I’ve always thought of you as my wife.”

Jungjoon felt his breath catch in his throat. His vision blurred at the word “wife” coming from Yoonhae’s lips once again.

“…Stop it. Do you really think you’ll never see me again after today?!”

“Do you think you won’t see me if you decide not to?”

Yoonhae rubbed his chin and then his thick neck.

“Either you kill me, or I kill you. Isn’t that realistically the only way? For us to not see each other again.”

He added, looking directly at the pale Jungjoon,

“I’m joking, so relax.”

“…….”

“So…, when are you going to give me that kiss?”

This story was deeply unsettling, in the best way. I couldn't stop reading. The storytelling hooked me from the start and delivered one of the most disturbingly realistic portrayals of obsessive attachment I've ever encountered.

Now, you might think "realistic" sounds like a stretch, considering how extreme the ML's behavior gets. But having worked in a rehab facility with mentally unwell patients, I can tell you: suffocating, unhealthy obsessions like this do exist. The story captures that ugly, claustrophobic side of human attachment so well it made my chest tighten at... more>> times. It's not the romanticized, obsessive love fiction loves to glamorize - it's a waking nightmare, and the author nails it.

What impressed me most was how gradually the tension built. The male lead (ML) doesn't seem terrifying at first. But little by little, his behavior turns possessive, suffocating, and genuinely frightening. As a reader, I felt trapped right alongside the (MC). If you're expecting romance here, don't. This is psychological horror in disguise. ML is a YANDERE in all caps.

Another standout is how well-written both characters are. Their backstories aren't dumped on you - you get fragments and small reveals that slowly piece together a grim picture. You start to understand why the ML turned out this way: abandoned, bullied, and dumped in a unhealthy environment at a very young age. Trauma shapes people, and ML's life made him what he is. MC became his lifeline - the one bright spot in an otherwise bleak world.

MC, honestly, is a better person than I'd ever be. The way he cared for ML over the years was both admirable and tragic. When he finally reached his breaking point and left ML while they were still young, I understood completely. This story had me conflicted in the best way - suffocating alongside MC, yet pitying ML, hoping he could somehow be saved from himself. When the ML opened up about what he went through after the MC left him, it was horrific. How it absolutely wrecked him. It felt so heavy to read, and I genuinely felt upset, like there was a black cloud hanging over me.

To be clear, I'm not excusing the ML's actions. He had every chance to change, but his obsession consumed him, leaving no room for anything or anyone else but the MC. That kind of tunnel vision is terrifying.

I'm only at chapter 15, and it already feels like I've read a whole book. The chapters are quite long, and by the 15th, the story has already covered two timelines. Amazing work from the translator.

I'll be updating some of the tags because this definitely includes smut - tho its noncon. Take the content warnings seriously. This story is dark, heavy, and features an extremely unhinged yandere ML. I honestly don't see a redemption arc happening. It feels like MC will spend the rest of his life knowing he can never truly escape ML.

High rating from me because it's disturbing, intense, and had me on edge the whole time. This is exactly the brand of chaos I live for. <<less

I was already impressed but reading the last chapter, one word came to mind; masterpiece.

I don't know if I should be worried or thrilled at the author's creative mind, lol. I've read many toxic yandere novels but I think this is first that seems so... raw. Everything was laid down objectively, no romanticism of the toxicity. To add, the author's way with words? Impressive. I was feeling the chills in the earlier chapters cause wot 😦 Reading at midnight didn't help.

I was thrilled and intrigued, wondering where the relationship would... more>> lead to. I could empathize with the MC's frustration and all. Because everything was just too frustrating and... structured.

At the end of it all, I guess it's the adults fault, that everything turned this way. These two are so pathetic, pitiful and victims. With the ML traumatising the MC more though. I wasn't even expecting their relationship to turn out that way cause I wasn't considering that type of 'happy ending, ' lol. But it was befitting.
Spoiler

Only they could understand each other, I guess. My twisted heart was also satisfied 😂💔

It's a twisted fate.

That last chapter blew my mind though. I don't know if I should be surprised or terrified of the level of Yoonhae's obsession. I knew what his condition could make him capable of, but the reveal? I wasn't expecting it to THAT extent, but then again, it's befitting of his character.

This was an enjoyable rollercoaster of emotions ride. Thanks to the author for this masterpiece and to the translator for translating this work beautifully, thank you! I'll miss the novel 😆

Not everyone can read this; it's twisted, disturbing and disgusting even. Plus, everything Shanabanana review said. <<less

3.5 is my actual rating

The first half of the story had me at the edge of my seat. The structure, pacing, and mystery surrounding the ML were genuinely intriguing and so well written. But towards the end...... the quality of the plot and storytelling dipped — at least for me.

The MC is a single father and a workaholic. He comes off as a bit of a scaredy cat around the ML — which makes sense given their history and the ML's creepy behavior. He's also obsessed with the idea... more>> of being straight, dating women, getting married and living life as a normal Beta man basically. Obsessed with people's opinions as well.

The ML, on the other hand, is obsessive, weird, and suffocating. At times he's just plain annoying and overly emotional. He also did a lot of terrible things to the MC and basically ruined his life.

Despite that, I still enjoyed the story overall since I'm a fan of dark BL — it's nothing I haven't seen before. That said, I had to speed read through the last few chapters because I started losing interest. It actually reminded me a lot of Lost, though Lost was definitely more hardcore and unsettling. <<less

Phewwww.... let me just take a break and stare into the void the moment I finished this novel.

AGHHHHHHHHHHH To the one that wrote this, I don't know whether to praise you or to cry to you of what this novel did to me in 2 o'clock in the morning😭😭 This feeling is not new but the fact that something is coiled in my heart and I can't release it because of how much depressing it is—is making me so much depressed!!!

This novel is a masterpiece, not suitable for weak hearted... more>> person like me (I need to read fluff to soothe my heartbeat and live again in the society). Love this 10/10– just too much harm in my mental health (dangerous)

Ahem, love this🤭🫠 (my exact reaction)

note: To the person that wrote and translated this, you have my greatest gratitude and appreciation of showing this to the entire world. Thank you very much for your hard work

I really like the structure of this novel. The way the story is told in the past and present is very interesting. He is a really good writer.

I really want to read another novel by this author. How talented he is.

In a strange way, I am a fan of ml. I find MC a bit annoying. He cares too much about the opinions of others and strangers and never enjoys life. All he cares about is what other people think. If he says he won't see that hairdresser again, then... more>> what does it matter what he thinks about you????🤦‍♂️

Many may think that ML ruined mc's life, but MC didn't have a very good life before.I was very sad and cried for ml's past. They both really suffered a lot in the past. ML was looking for hope because he was an orphan and alone and he found it in MC and MC ran away and left him. After all these years, MC was a single father who had a boring life and I think ML still helped him in his hardship. I don't want to justify ml's behavior, but MC doesn't have a likable personality and I feel sorry for ML the most.

Spoiler

Reading this novel was a truly wonderful experience. I am so happy with the ending. How I wished MC would finally love ml. I am truly grateful to the author for giving me what I wanted.

just finished this novel and can say (with like 95% certainty) that this is one of the best webnovels i've ever read.

i was hesistant to start it given that I'm not keen on angst plotlines AT ALL, and I will say that this one is incredibly heavy, but it truly isn't as predictable as you may think, and it's so wholly and completely full-circle that I was surprised at how well some of the details were tied into the story throughout.

it's a nauseating and rotten read in the best way;... more>> it's utterly unsatisfying yet so beautifully written it doesn't leave you wanting more when you finish. probably a solid 9.7/10, purely because the omegaverse aspect honestly doesn't add much to the story (though I could see arguments against that because I do believe it DOES add depth to yoonhae's yearning and devotion to the mc).

a few of my personal favorite features of this novel:

    • Spoiler
        • its hyperbolic references to religion as a vehicle for showcasing the sheer complexity of yoonhae's psyche and autonomous relationship with jungjoon. always always always a huge fan of authors using a character's personal faith in a person other than god as a means to highlight their depraved obsession, which can only be shaken by sacrilegious acts that they themselves enable.
        • the references to environment and ecosystems that, ironically, portray the boggy and swampy feeling a novel with this title should portray. the sheer amount of bug, mildew, mold, and dirt references alone are enough to make this novel feel deeply disturbed as you read (which only helped with immersion as they often correspond with similar feelings on behalf of jungjoon).
            • as someone with a psych background (annoying way to start oops), the novel does an INCREDIBLY good job at accurately portraying how environment and socioeconomic stress can proliferate throughout life, interacting with even the most deep and personal aspects of your mind.
        • neither character is perfect and, for the most part (yoonhae...), it's so sincerely neither of their faults from childhood, to adolescence, and into their adulthood. neither jungjoon nor yoonhae deserve each other, nor do they deserve what they've done to each other. both victims entirely of someone else's making, it satisfies a bittersweet urge that you feel throughout the novel that jungjoon needs yoonhae but does not want him, and that yoonhae wants jungjoon but does not need him.
            • this is not to say that jungjoon is not, ultimately, the victim throughout. he most definitely is and that stands as a point on its own. it is simply to say that, in conjunction, yoonhae is also a victim and his unique victimization adds reason, not excuse, to his depravity.

It's writing is top tier. I like how it treats it's intense subject matter. But I would just like to go on about how amazing the writing is it is absolutely amazing writing. I can understand why certain characters do what they will do... Just an explanation not a justification. The author never justifies anything a character does only explains it. which I really like.

with these two it's a train wreck but I like. disturbing but in a good way.

Sorry if this is a bit incoherent I'm a little s*upid. 😅 <<less

I’m honestly shocked. This work is truly amazing. I expected anything but this. From beginning to end, there was such tension that at times I was genuinely scared of everything happening in the novel. So many emotions, and everything is described so beautifully.

Spoilers ahead.

I really didn’t like the ML. I completely understood the MC and why he left that child. But when the situation repeated itself and I read how ML was suffering and even started stuttering again, I began to feel sorry for him, even though I genuinely couldn’t... more>> accept him before. The ML disgusted me for most of the story, he was very dependent and always thought with his lower instincts, which was extremely irritating. I even wanted the MC to actually kill him and then take his own life.

But the author wrapped everything up so well in the end that I found myself wanting them to stay together, and I was very surprised that I no longer felt that same disgust toward the ML. The characters truly grew throughout the story, but in my opinion the biggest development was with the ML. He became normal, he became a caring husband and father, which is incredible. From someone who inspired such strong fear, even in me, he really managed to become a good person.

Toward the end, I cried a lot when the ML was injured. All those feelings of anxiety from the MC were conveyed so well that, with my own anxiety disorder, I felt everything myself and it made me feel unwell. I was so happy that they managed to get back on the right path and bring their son back.

Honestly, I could go on forever about how good this novel is. I love reading about yandere characters, and my expectations were lowered, but this story was so gripping that I finished it in 7–8 hours. Even though there weren’t that many chapters, each one took 20–30 minutes, they were very long. It felt like I had read 100 chapters in a single day.

I highly recommend it to anyone who likes the yandere tag. I even imagined how great it would be if this novel had a manhwa adaptation with beautiful art, I think it would gain a lot of fans. The translator did an excellent job; even though the text was long, it was very pleasant to read.

Overall, I may have had some questions about the novel, but after the ending, it no longer mattered. There’s a lot of complexity and contradiction here, and that’s exactly what made it so emotionally powerful for me. Honestly, this work deserves much more recognition. Yes, there’s also a lot of violence, and it wasn’t always pleasant to read, but with a yandere ML, that’s exactly what I expected.

Once again, I highly recommend it. And now I’m off to read more novels with this tag. <<less

I've never felt so compelled to leave a review (more like a rant)...*sighs*

The title really befits the novel.

Mind you, I like dogblood novels, my last read was Dark River, Ever Bright and I've even read quite a few of Shui Qian Cheng's novels like Sissy, so I knew what I was getting into before reading this. But this novel...

I don't understand? At some point, the MC just kinda accepted the fact that there's nobody other than ML left in his life so he falls in love with him out of... more>> sympathy of being abandoned?...

Spoiler

... Even after the ML took the MC's child away from him?

This novel was just pure torture. There was no satisfying redemption arc / wife chasing crematorium? The MC just accepted everything. I could even tolerate that.

Yet!

I was going to give this 1 or 2 stars if Ian (MC's non-biological child) didn't reunite with Jungjoon (MC).

I would've given it 4 if Yoonhae (ML) didn't take away Ian from Jungjoon just because he wanted Jungjoon all to himself. It made me so mad because it was Yoonhae's plan for Ian to be taken away by Ian's biological father. That biological father of Ian had hit and ab*sed his own girlfriend who later married Jungjoon. Letting a child's custody fall into the hands of a domestic ab*ser?! Ian even had to live "happily" because he was told he'd get to see Jungjoon sooner if he did so. I just thought it was so cruel to do that to a child just because of his obsession with Jungjoon and the need for his undivided attention.

By the time I reached the chapter where Yoonhae shows Jungjoon how happy Ian was with his biological father, I was begging for this novel to end. But I'm too much of a curious cat to drop this, so I kept going...

... and I'm glad I did. My attention was really gripped in the chapter where Yoonhae chases after Jungjoon in the forest, becomes hysterical and eventually collapses.

[collapse]

The MC vomits too frequently, so much so I was worried if the author had some stomach issues they projected onto their characters.

Edit: After a few hours of thinking about this novel, I get why the MC fell for the ML <<less
