This novel started getting tl'd because of the drama currently being released (available on youtube and viki). The drama trailer presents the story seemingly as a hypothesis - can love withstand life, death, distance and time? and all the other questions.
The trailer presents the relationship between the FL and ML on the foreground, and although in the first few chapters of the novel the relationship between them progresses (very quickly), they have to go through all sorts of trials and tribulations to finally get together - starting from the scheming and antagonistic aunt of the fl, then enemies of the ml's family in retribution cause the FL to enter the palace, and then in the palace the FL gets dragged around by pretty much everybody.
So in truth I can't predict (beyond the first dozen chapters) how much screentime the FL and ML will have together, as the ML also gets dragged around in even more dangerous circumstances. The story can be extremely frustrating at times, especially since the FL early on so righteously proclaims that she will not get dragged around by others and treat herself well.
The words were said to the ghost of her seemingly dead childhood-friend fiancee.
This scene happened some time after she agreed to marry someone she didn't like, someone who even tried to take advantage of her before getting married, only to ultimately scheme their family out of money to save her brother.
It's just that the contrast between my initial impression of the FL and later on is quite extreme.
The scheming FL who is willing to use her reputation and even in extreme circumstances be alone and unable to marry for the rest of her life for the sake of saving her brother's life, and the FL after falling in love is just different. She's literally dragged around because of differences in status, she still lets her guard down around others, literally acceping favors from people who want to help her in her unfavorable situation to then use it to threaten her, she still accepts and her fate can basically be determined at the drop of a hat.
Then she gets her emotions manipulated because somebody got himself probably deliberately punished for her mistakes to then make her feel guilty for him.
The scheming aunt is scheming because she wants to have more, she needs more, justifying it by saying "for my son, for my daughter", while the children's relationship is actually quite good and they don't wish for their mother's 'good intentions'. One of the princes is arrogant and forceful for the sake of being arrogant and forceful?
I suppose him threatening her for the sake of obtaining more of her feelings even though he knows she already has somebody in her heart, could be justified if he was slowly falling for her? (no)
This story was probably made to be frustrating. If the author had this in mind, wanting to show that we can protect something dear to us if we take extreme measures, while sometimes we have to go through many many trials in order to obtain/retain something, and that some things may come easily to us, while some may need much more time, or that some things are just not for us in this life... if that's this novel's premise, if that's the author's message, then I suppose it could succeed.
