From the high rating, I expected this novel to be a hidden gem. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a generic overpowered MC tale, where the protagonist effortlessly impresses everyone around them. The world-building is lackluster, and the characters feel one-dimensional.

The MC's transmigration is introduced early on but then seemingly forgotten. It has no impact on the story, and it feels like a tag added for the sake of being added rather than a meaningful plot point.

Furthermore, the MC's decision to become a battle beast master seems rather arbitrary. In... more>> a world filled with possibilities, one would expect the protagonist to at least consider other options. However, the idea of a different profession is never explored, as if it’s a given that the MC should be fighting throughout the novel.

This novel is a prime example of a "turn off your brain while reading" type of story. While that's perfectly fine for some readers, it's confusing given its high ratings. <<less

This is my first beast-control novel with a female protag and I'm quite surprised on how good it is. I like how FL interacted with her pet beasts and the pets also have their unique personalities.

It feels refreshing because there's no unnecessary drama or villains showing up like mushrooms asking for a face slap. Just a fun journey of leveling up with fl's cute pet beasts.

This is a still ongoing novel which I have been following for a while now.

Basically, if you enjoy Pokemon, you'll enjoy this. The mechanisms are not the same, but the way the magical critters interact with humanity in the various ways are very reminiscent of the anime. ... more>>
Spoiler

The main character's pets are also very reminiscent of Growlithe/Arcanine, Hoopa, Vaporeon, Mega-Pinsir...

[collapse]

So far the MC has won every official fight she's been in, and even most of the conflicts in the wild where she ended up facing higher level trainers and pets. So in that respect, there's not as much suspense at this point as to the end results of her fights. However, the author is really good at coming up with interesting tactics and describing them, so the fights themselves are fun to read.

The world building is also great, not only do you have many "provinces"/zones on the planet which have different environments and cultures to explore, there are also different planets altogether. People in different places can also have different attitudes and relationships with the Pokemon...I mean, magic pets. And there are also many ways in which professions and jobs within a society may change due to the presence of Pokemon pets. It's all fun to explore.

MC's personality is a strange mix of jaded and naive. Because she's a transmigrator, she's got experience with life in socializing with her peers/betters, making deals and contracts, and spotting scams. On the other hand, her lack of memories growing up in Pokeland magic pets world and the fast pace at which she gets sent to various different places, makes her very inexperienced and ignorant about things that other people take for common knowledge, or who learned in the high school terms that she skipped.

Her pets also get a lot of detailed characterization, such that they are very much major support characters of their own rather than just footnotes to the protagonist. It's the characterization (along with the well written fight scenes) that make you want to root for them despite the lack of suspense as to the final result of the competition. <<less

A generic op protagonist story with Pokemon themes. I suspect this story got good reviews because it is a rare female MC power progression story, but it's not as well written as reviews suggest.

The thing I disliked most was the mc's attitude to their pets. They don't have to be a saint and care about animal rights, but at least make their attitude consistent! MC risks her life to stop strong trainers from capturing and forcing contracts with unwilling pets. The MC and the trainers don't know each other, and... more>> MC can't even form contracts with said pets, so she isn't trying to snatch them away, she is doing it for ethical reasons. But on the other side, MC also drools over strong uncontracted pets and even mentions that she would force a contract if she could. She actually considers this as an option before saying that the pet is too strong, so she'll have to resort to trickery instead. This is so hypocritical and I don't understand MC's stance here.

There's other issues too. As others have already mentioned, MC makes important life decisions without considering other options or thinking about it. She's a trainer cuz she's a trainer, and she battles because she battles.

MC is also Mary Sue levels of lucky, finds a treasure by tripping on a rock lucky, and her transmigration is also never brought up and nobody seems to notice. Standard fare for these types of novels though, so I don't mind.

Fights are basically pokemon battles. We have moves, we have turns, and for some unknown reason you cannot sneak attack outside your turn. You can't attack the trainer, and the trainers do not attack either. And this is outside the arena, in real battles. There are no rules in fights, but everyone behaves as if rules exist. The author refuses to say the word pokemon, but it's basically a pokemon fanfic at this point.

Anyway, novel is not worth the hype. You can still read it if you are desperate for strong female MC novels, but lose your brain while doing so. <<less

The fact that this novel doesn't have 5 stars is a f*cking sacrilege.

Look, if you're expecting a shonen-style novel, tragedy, heavy plot, villains, fights to the death and unique history, then this isn't for you.

This is a found-family-style novel, "quick growth", comedy, battles, MC with luck on her side, and exploration.

Here are a few points I want to clarify regarding other comments

Spoiler

Is MC OP and the plot boring? Yes and no. MC's dream is clear from the start, which is through the roof. She is lucky in that her mutated beast codex allows her to see information about her contracted beasts and allows them to grow quickly the more they fight. Basically, if her contracted beast has an affinity with x or y ability, then they can quickly learn it. (If it does not have that affinity, it takes 100 times longer to acquire it, and the possibility is still slim.)

But are things just handed to her? No. Both MC and her beasts work very hard to achieve the strength they have. Basically, her beasts are addicted to training and fighting, while MC spends a lot of time in such intense self-study that I got a migraine just thinking about going through something similar. (In an arc, she had to undergo training to improve her defense, receiving beatings and internal modifications with worms. If you tell me that she had things handed to her on a silver platter, it's because you didn't read anything.)

This is what makes it entertaining for me, MC's path to her dream is long, and many things happen along the way, yet she is still far from achieving it, even though she has it easier than others. This makes it more satisfying.

[collapse]

I've read other similar beast taming novels, and you know what? I don't think they're half as good as this one, but surprise, surprise, they get better reviews because people like bloody fights between magical beasts, a cold, serious, and extremely arrogant MC with an air of superiority, and the most nonsensical growth you can imagine. But hey, to each their own.

If I had to summarize what I loved about this novel specifically, it would be the relationship between the MC and her beasts, the most unique thing I've seen among novels of the same type, each with a drastically different and "human" personality, insecurities, goals, and thoughts, and the development between them and the MC has me hooked, If you want to read something lighter and more entertaining with beasts as family and a main character with a mature, kind, but firm personality, then this is definitely for you.

As an extra piece of information that may further define the MC: she is not a heroine nor does she have a savior complex, nor does she go through life imposing her way of thinking and seeing things on others. The times she has stepped forward in matters that do not concern her are because her beasts have wanted her to and she indulges them, which for me is a 5/5 in personality <<less

This story is the epitome of fun. The raw’s daily chapter update is the highlight of my day.

In my opinion, for a webnovel to be five stars it has to be one of the best in at least one aspect. For Beast Taming, that aspect is “fun”.

The setting is a unique mix of realistic Pokemon society and interstellar, where humans dwell on four main planets, each with a different relationship between humans and pet beasts, conduct, and even weather.

The protagonist, Qiao Sang, is a transmigrator from Earth to basically Chinese-Pokemon-Earth,... more>> “Blue Star”. She transmigrates into an academically incompetent middle school third year who has little to no future prospects. Qiao Sang herself is missing not only 14 years of Blue Star’s common sense, but also hardly inherited any useful knowledge from the original Qiao Sang.

Lucky for her, she “self-awakens” her brain domain and gains 1 contract page. Brain domain is the mechanic that limits how many pets a beastmaster can contract in this story and is measured in percentage. Brain domain increase is a slow progress, typically through meditation. Upon certain breakthroughs in brain domain (10%, 20%, 30%, 50%, etc), only then can beastmasters gain another contract page. This is probably one of the biggest differences from Pokemon- you can’t just fill your team right away. These contracts are also for-life and permanent. Forcibly breaking a contract causes backlash, which can permanently damage the beastmaster’s brain domain and the pet beast’s potential.

What becomes immediately obvious is the world-building, particularly the realism. Want to contract a powerful species? That’s going to cost a lot of money. Want to feed your pet special food to increase their growth? That’s going to end up costing even more over time. Your pet beast’s needs an item to evolve? Can you afford it, though?

The biggest hurdle for Qiao Sang early in the story is money. Qiao Sang is just a normal 15 year old from a single parent household. Every step of her broke struggles to make enough money is fun and comedic.

One of the fun-est aspects of Beast Taming is the evolutions. Pet beasts can evolve many times, and which rank is the maximum depends on the species’ racial limit. It goes: beginner-level —> intermediate-level —> high-level —> general-level —> king-level —> emperor-level —> imperial-level —> venerable-level —> divine-level

As for the plot, it’s made up of many clean arcs and stages. The majority is comedy, especially between Qiao Sang’s pet beasts. All of them are funny and have unique personalities. You will end up liking them all. I can never predict what the next arc will be, but I know it will be a fun ride. Most of the arc’s revolve around pet beasts, though not necessarily Qiao Sang’s. These mini-stories is where Beast Taming excels, and they even made me get a bit emotional sometimes.

A good early arc example is

Spoiler

The Ghost Lamp arc. When Xiao Xunbao (Little Treasure) got hypnotized and relived the Ghost Lamp’s memories... I legitimately started tearing up.

‘"You're so grown up, yet you're still making a mess."

The person, who looked like Qiao Sang, laughed, taking a tissue to wipe the juice from Little Treasure’s mouth.

Little Treasure froze for a moment. For the first time, he saw a glimpse of his Beastmaster in this human.

Time in the dream passed quickly. It seemed like no time had passed before this person had grown old.

Little Treasure looked at the human in front of him, now with white hair and wrinkled skin, and couldn’t believe this was the same person who had once looked like his Beastmaster.

She lay quietly in bed, her eyes half-closed, her face pale and bloodless, tubes inserted all over her body.

Little Treasure felt an unfamiliar panic, a panic that was no longer manipulated by the dream but belonged entirely to himself.’

[collapse]

Another one that is much later is

Spoiler

The arc with Adinixi. I’m sorry, he wasn’t totally a lazy bum... I ended up thinking “how many chips is this lazy bum going to eat before he actually plays his flute for everyone?” to “I want Qiao Sang to come back to visit when he wakes up again in 100 years.”

[collapse]

A common complaint I’m seeing in reviews is that Qiao Sang’s reasons for pursuing beast taming is a bit arbitrary. That’s not totally wrong, but she also didn’t have many options. Her golden finger gives her an advantage in that field, and most importantly, her grades wouldn’t matter if she did.

Admittedly, a lot of the lower level skills and abilities are ripped from Pokemon. But they quickly become more and more unique, especially the non-combat skills. In my opinion, this is easily forgivable. The strategies Qiao Sang comes up with for battles are what I WISH the Pokemon anime was like. Qiao Sang never underestimates her opponents and collects pre-match intelligence to devise a strategy.

That’s for tournament battles. When Qiao Sang is jumped in the wild by beastmasters or wild pets, those tournament rules go out the window. She summons ALL her pets to fight at once.

The fights are some of the most memorable and enjoyable I’ve ever read. Some are hilarious, some are just clever, and some had me on the edge of my seat. Not many opponents can seriously challenge our girlboss aura farmer Qiao Sang, but when they do appear, it’s glorious. These opponents get quite the build up and anticipation before the actual fight, making it even better. <<less

I couldn't stop reading, I've been binge reading for a whole week. This has become my fav beast Taming novel! The FL has 15 y.o. and has transmigrated into a world were beast are used for anything, transporting, giving birth, security, etc. When she opens her eyes she discovers that the majority of the population are beast tamers and she is one too. From then on she will contract the first beast, and start her journey as a super genius making records in everything (she's really OP). The battles are... more>> really cool and the world of beast is amazing (the author loved Pokemon so there are regional, national and so on tournaments...). The imagination of the author is endless. This is a really enjoyable read, really chill and (thank God) no face slapping or useless dialogues and so on. The pace is perfect. <<less

Love the story, I'm looking forward to new chapter every day.

Like others said, the MC is OP and basically never lose, so if you aren't into that then this isn't really for you.

The cheat system is very hand off, it's basically a passive that increases pets' experience and skill efficiency. So no random missions or rewards that come out of nowhere. MC's is lucky though, so like in many other novels, she will be put in tough situations then come out of it gaining good stuffs.

The story has a good... more>> mix of progression and SoL, the pace isn't too fast nor slow. MC is moving forward fast, but still has plenty of fun interactions between pet/pet, pet/human. The fights are mostly tournament style, pet vs pet only. And because she obtains new pets, pets learn new skills or make better use of old skills, they don't feel stale.

Below are some refutations of the other review:

Spoiler

-MC risks her life to stop strong trainers from capturing and forcing contracts with unwilling pets. The MC and the trainers don't know each other, and MC can't even form contracts with said pets, so she isn't trying to snatch them away, she is doing it for ethical reasons. But on the other side, MC also drools over strong uncontracted pets and even mentions that she would force a contract if she could. She actually considers this as an option before saying that the pet is too strong, so she'll have to resort to trickery instead. This is so hypocritical and I don't understand MC's stance here.

->This is just bad reading here. MC doesn't care much about other trainers forcing a contract. She even wants to just get away because said trainers are stronger than her. MC's big thing though, is that she usually supports her pets' want. In this situation, her pet was very eager to help the other unwilling pet, so she chose to help it too. This will happen quite a lot, where MC will choose to do or not to do something based on her pets. Eg: Someone bribes her to intentionally lose battle, she only refuse because it'll ruin her righteous image in her pets' eyes.

[collapse]

Spoiler

-MC makes important life decisions without considering other options or thinking about it. She's a trainer cuz she's a trainer, and she battles because she battles.

->It's a fking beast taming world, everyone trains their pets there. She decided to go all in aiming for the top place because she loves the battles, and she has the cheat to do so. Doing so will also make it easier for her to travel around. You don't need some kind of deep trauma backstory to aim for something.

[collapse]

Spoiler

-Fights are basically pokemon battles. We have moves, we have turns, and for some unknown reason you cannot sneak attack outside your turn. You can't attack the trainer, and the trainers do not attack either. And this is outside the arena, in real battles. There are no rules in fights, but everyone behaves as if rules exist

->False, outside the arena, they absolutely target the other trainers. There aren't a lot of outside arena battles in the story, but in all of them, the priority is to knock the trainers out, even just targeting them will help distract the pets. This is a civilized society though, killing is avoided, so you'll see many situations where stronger trainers get handicapped cause they can't go too hard.

After looking at the recent reviews, I realised this novel might not be for everyone.

1. The MC is very much OP. If that bothers you, don't read this one.

2. As of now, the MC's transmigration is only useful to explain her lack of common sense and her skills.

3. The side characters are only that: side characters. I reread the entire novel and I still could not name a single other character's name... more>>
Spoiler

(although some are recurring)

[collapse]

That being said, I can't disagree more with the recent 1 star reviews. This novel is a hidden gem and is quite unique compared to the ones I have read before.

1. If you grew up with Pokemon, this novel might very well be for you. Imagine if people didn't peak at 11 years old but actually became more competent with time. Imagine if the "beasts" didn't stop evolving halfway through your journey and could use more than just 4 moves. This novel shows exactly that world. To me, the world is what makes this novel.

2. The translation is good. I have been a translation reader for almost a decade now and this one is above average. There are still some small mistakes here and there but even after rereading the whole thing to write this review, I could only catch 3 mistakes that really bothered me.

3. The pace is also good. Even when rereading the novel, I never felt like I hit a long boring part. Even the parts that were less interesting were there for a reason.

4. While it's true that the MC is overpowered, it's not done in a boring way. She is talented but she also learns and works on her mistakes. It's not a story about OP MC hiding their talent. She is growing and learning as she goes. It feels much more realistic than many of the OP MCs I have read before.

5. The team interactions are great. While the human characters are mostly side characters, her beasts are all different and have their own personalities. They grow, they struggle, they feel weak, they feel strong, they grow... They each shine at different times and in different ways. They are fun.

Overall, this novel might not be for everyone, but it is perfect for me. It's fun, I always wait for the next chapter, and I often find myself smiling while reading it. It's good enough to be part of my top 10 favorite novels ever, on here and with the ongoing DMCA-pocalyps, my only remaining, ongoing, smile-inducing novel. <<less

Guys... I've actually finished the whole 1009 chapters of this novel... hahaha I cannot believe it!! I wish it was completed but alas, the second volume just started😔

Definitely not for everyone. Especially if you dislike OP characters. I don't really have objection because its satisfying to read, what else. They work hard too, so its not just something that's really in your face. Its unbelievable to think that I witness her pets cultivation from the very start to what they are now in the first volume's ending. Her pets each... more>> really have their own charm, I love every one of them. I'm so excited about her future pets. (I'm also excited for the Interstellar Cup. I'm waitingggg)

I just finished so I can't give a longass review but it really is good. I hope my enthusiasm to read this doesn't dissappear with this break. I wanna stack up the future chapters first.

Edit: 1/5/26 - A year in, and let me tell you, I'm still tuning in. Its really just a matter of enjoyment. I'm fully commited to the development of her pets and future pets, thats why its hard for me to let go. I don't want to let go!! Hehe. That being said, I've pretty much accepted everything this book has to offer, and considering the length, there's obviously repetitiveness. Like the flow of the fights, for example. I still love it. You know my dream right now? I wanna read this one from the start hahah. I'm not feeling it yet tho but someday! Definitely. <<less

I enjoy this novel a lot. Not perfect, but well written and engaging. Some points:

such as winning the lottery to spend unlimited money for a year

[collapse]
will only grow. I don't particularly mind, but if that bothers you a lot this might not be the novel for you. Usually things going her way are either a result of people trying to make a connection with her or there's a convincing enough situation set up for it. Whether it's a tournament or outside a tournament it scales well with her power and there's always at least something that is challenging enough to be interesting reading how she gets through it (or escapes it), and she does seem to progress slower after each stage (relatively speaking; it's still way too fast for that world), but ultimately it is still an OP protagonist novel.

Transmigration: I can see some aspects that this affects such as being more aware of scams and conscious of the importance of money than someone that age might typically be and more willing to study compared to the old person. I don't think it was really necessary, but it's not something I care that much about.

Protagonist: I like her personality. I don't have much to say about it, but can't leave it out.

Pet beasts: Each of the pet beasts has its own personality, interests, and motivation. Although she would still be powerful, the MC's ability to understand these aspects of her pet beasts is a key factor in making full use of her golden finger, and I find this one of the strongest parts of the story.

Mother: Agree with another reviewer: their relationship is cute, funny, and relatable.

Other relationships: There are a lot of relationships that really only last for one plot arc and then kind of fall off or at most the character will pop up in social media after the next big development. It's not unrealistic exactly, but sometimes it's a little unsatisfying. For example for the first big high school tournament she got moved to a more advanced team, but after we got to know her previous teammates a bit I wanted to know a bit more about how they did. It wasn't completely unaddressed, and it's not like I wanted to see detailed accounts of all their fights too, but maybe somewhere in the middle.

Drama: As another reviewer said, it's nice that there's not too much big drama, but there are a couple of drama setups that feel unsatisfactorily resolved. The first is the relationship with the paternal family, especially the grandmother which is strained but not antagonistic and seems to be going somewhere but has been on pause for many chapters. However, I suspect that this will be addressed more in the future and these things take time and she's currently

The second is a rival school which

and she just beats their best player and the first spoiler issue the final consequences are implied to happen off screen, while the second is not really addressed at all.

Combined with the previous point, I would say that the emotional payout for some things does not always feel in proportion with the setup. I suspect there are cultural factors here. Most Chinese media feels tonally off and unsatisfying to me, and this issue gives me some of the same weird feelings, but not to the extent it puts me off the story.

Fight scenes: Very engaging. I am easily exhausted by novels that focus too much on the fighting, but this goes into just the right amount of detail. Occasionally it will drag a little, but usually even if I know she's going to win (or escape safely) it's interesting to read how. Tournaments are broken up with things she's doing in between matches, so I don't get too fatigued by endless fighting. <<less

Love the story, good quality translation. It's engaging and flexible without being repetitive, the growth is well-paced, and overall the story is well written. The main character is confident without exuding arrogance, a rarity in most stories and, while they are powerful they subscribe to a proper set of morals. Good for a read after being fatigued by stories where the main character is selfish, two-faced and greedy.

It's nice to read a story where the main character can look like a good person without making all the other characters into... more>> horrible people, it is a refreshing contrast to the twisted world view often found in other stories, where in most cases the main character is only a good person in comparison to the society they find themselves in. The lack of corruption (thus far along in the story), and the lack of any real attempt to hide their power really helps one hold faith in the genuine goodness of people in this world. While there are people who are selfish and greedy, they aren't exceptionally heinous in comparison to the 'bad guys' in other stories.

Overall I find the story to be a healthy read, with little to no negative impact on my mentality after reading (I read "A painting of the villainess as a young lady" before and it nearly drove me into apathy.) This story honestly just helps keep a stable, normal mindset, with training, self-improvement and slow-feeling fast progress - where the MC does grow exceptionally faster than the others, however there is never any exceptional breakthrough moment where they 'skip 5 levels by some miraculous intervention' - every piece of progress is earned, even when there is some unprompted piece of luck, the opportunity is wisely used for the sake of future progress.

I guess the sum total of what I'm trying to say is that the characters in the story are just normal, somewhat relatable, people and the main character herself is a healthy example of someone who is goal-oriented without being absorbed by their goals, and is a patient, humble and well balanced human being without any exceptional flaws. She cares for her family and does her level best to provide for her pets when she is struggling without becoming absorbed in her hardships - just a healthy human being. <<less

I see negative reviews and just want to clarify - its a really fun series to read but its not for anyone.

Do you like pokemon? Do you like Digimon? Do you enjoy OP main characters with fast pace power scaling? Do you enjoy mystery and adventure? Do you like a young female MC who thus far is still young, single, and solely focused on her path to the top? Then this might be the novel for you.

Its pretty light hearted thus far, no deaths or ab*se. Beasts faint when beaten... more>> in battle, no death. No criminal organizations, evil antagonists, etc. Just a girl with a little bit of a cheat aiming for the very pinnacle of beast master recognition. To compete and win the interstellar cup! <<less

While the MC never really struggle. The novel isn't really about her either. It's about her journey and what we learn on the way. The relations between a Beast tamer and the beasts. The society built around humans and beasts. Different views among Tamers and much more.

The MC seems OP and in some ways she is, however alot of her strength belongs to her beasts.

The MC got a gold finger and she's exeptional on planning and making strategies. However she's severely lacking on knowledge (she... more>> knows literally nothing when she first starts out). She also got an Eye for talent as she noticed pecularities with both her first two pets and promply got them.

Her beasts is also talented, much of their character is influenced by the MC and the way she trains them.

The MC's strength is much due to her pets who improves themselves on their own.

I think the part I appreciate the most about the MC is that she seem to understand very well whats truly important to her and she knows how to be grateful to those that help her out (it'll become very evident around chapter 600-800 somewhere).

Aside from the above there's also sprinkled comedy on top of the story, just enough to keep it enjoyable.

The writing is good, the translation is also good.

I'd like to write more, but I shan't

Should you read this?

It is absolutely worth a try, I personally loved it.

That being said, don't expect much struggling here. Instead expect a relaxing and interesting journey to a beast taming world. <<less

I really like this story, It's not often that we have beast taming with a female lead.

I like her, she's funny, smart and competent. I like that the author doesn't make drama with bad people. For expemple her father left her and her mother to lives with another woman and child but we don't see them and the FL mention that he feels guilty and gives money.

Most of people she meets are friends or passerby and not 2d antagonists talking non sens.

The game elements and other competition elements are top... more>> and I really like her relation with her pets. <<less

As an avid fan of beast taming novel, I can proudly say this one is really good. I really like how it incorporate battle theme with a tinge of slice of life making it really realistic and immersive! The power progression is just right not like being overpowered all of a sudden and the flow of the story is in the right pace making every beast arc feel rewarding and meaningful

All in all, it's a perfect blend that would definitely hooked you!

If you like another beast taming novel I recommend... more>> 'Unscientific Beast Taming'! <<less

I like this story it's feel like reading interstellar Chinese pokemon and there no real villain who came every episode only rival in every tournament,

Every time her beast having evolution there must be character development, including her brain progress she having some character development or make her brain work really hard,

The world building is good the transmigration tag is not really matter because the real body owner is just ordinary bad student who didn't know anything so we Follow the MC discover new world and other area from... more>> beast taming planet

MC is really lucky

Spoiler

and after the blessings from the fantasy beast there scene when basically she can have anything she want like unlimited card for a year and her beasts evolution

[collapse]

but this didn't stop her and her beasts to train everyday. Not only are they talented, they are also diligent in practicing every day,

Spoiler

there a time when MC didn't sleep for 2 months and rely on the healing skill from her beast to study

[collapse]

so it's not surprising they became OP

If you want to read novel without serious conflicts you can read this to relax <<less

Don't get me wrong, that three stars is a very positive score for me. If there were percentages, I'd say this was a 3.5 star story. Above average but nothing exceptional.

The story is still in the progress of being written so it is very likely that what I say now will not be the same as it is at the end. I will update when that time comes.

For my current impression though I have to say I am underwhelmed but still intrigued enough to not drop the story. That is... more>> a positive thing. I drop stories 90% of the time, but not only am I still reading this story but I am also writing a review about it! And not only that, I'm willing to wait for updates! It must have something, right?

Well, kind of.

The beginning had me fascinated and I binged this story for like two weeks straight and read nothing else.

I was fascinated by the mc's story with her mother and maternal side of the family, the interesting world building, the cute beasts, the comedic moments, and the at-times serious beats to the story.

I was fascinated for two weeks straight and was convinced this was going to be my next focus.

But then I started to notice the flaws.

Everything I praised about the story is still there, it's still present. It just has become more obvious to me that what makes this story great keeps taking a back-seat to the stuff about making the main character more powerful. And not in the satisfying progression fantasy kind of powerful. No, this strength building journey is a lot more bland than that. It's the grinding type that basically imprisons you into sitting through every. Single. Moment. The beauty of story writing is that you're crafting a story, not giving a playbook on how to be the strongest being on the planet. Your readers have very little spare time and they're choosing to read your story over any other. That is an honor. But in this work your time is not treated as such.

So it is very frustrating when the more interesting areas of the story are being pivoted away from for the sake of skippable scenes. It feels like whenever there's some sort of progress being made in other areas, the author goes back to writing mind-numbing battle scenes that aren't very relevant to the story.

And I actually really like overpowered characters. I hate reading about characters who are extremely limited in what they can do - I'm limited in my own life, why should I bother suffering by reading about that kind of life in my precious spare time?

But like I've said time and time again, overpowered characters need excellent pacing in their stories to work. Otherwise, it's very easy to take you out of the immersion of the world and what you're left with is feeling like you have to do chores to get a glimpse of the good stuff. Bad pacing feels like work. And work is never a good thing.

But this story's pacing is not a deal breaker, it's just a tad lackluster.

It's just a little disheartening to see potential and then having that potential yanked away from you in favor of a battle with a character that appears once, will never show up again, and does not give any sort of benefit to the character that nowhere near equates to the value of the time that you the reader lost looking at mind-numbing hours of text.

I might be being a little overdramatic- it's truly not as unbearable as I'm making it out to be. I wouldn't have read nearly a thousand chapters if that were the case. But I'm frustrated and have no idea how else to express that sensation, so I'm gonna let myself be a diva for once.

It's a story with the potential to have a plot but the author keeps trying to make it appeal to the shounen anime crowd.

Even the way the characters are treated is like a classic shounen anime. You keep getting introduced to new characters but very rarely do any of them stick around. Why even introduce all these people in the first place??? I keep trying to see the MC become an actual person who has meaningful relationships with anyone beyond her mother and beasts but anytime there's a spark of potential, again the author just puts it out by pivoting to unimportant new battles, new locations, new characters. I want things to mean something!!!!

This story has an excess of information that does not assist, only drowns out the soul of the work.

There are plenty of interesting characters, interesting workd building, comedic moments. But none of that means anything when they don't stick around.

Nothing means anything in this work.

The only saving grace is the mc's pets that are very adorable. They are the stars of the show and I am reading this story solely for them. That and the mc's mother. Everyone else does not matter in this story.

I will update this review again when we get further along in the story. I do hope that these things improve as I really do like this story but I cannot in good conscience say this is deserving of more than 3.5 stars. <<less

I dislike this novel. It is simple, but borrows a lot of things from pokemon, like abilities and types. Transmigration so far had pretty much nothing to do with the story, other than that MC has an older mental age than her "peers".

The translation (A dreamer's world) feels like mtl and then edited for consistency, because of grammar structures in chinese is very apparent in this translation.
