Bad writing. Author rambles and info dumps the entire time about world building and beasts. Story doesn't move forward at all. So boring to read.

The ever so common mistake of excessive info dumps and tell don't show.

It's a copy of other novels of this genre with a slight different cheat but with so boring writing that makes one lose focus all the time and even start skimming through chapters at the very beginning.

And I'm not that demanding: I've read hundreds of chapters of Fey Evolution Merchant, Museum of Deadly Beasts,... more>> Monster Pet Evolution and Astral Pet Store. (they're all flawed novels in some way)

Yet this one, I've slugged through the entire time for these 20 chaps because the Author wouldn't stop going on tangents and info dumping about random things.

"Hey I'm going to buy medicine. Look, there's a girl chasing a cat, should I tell you all about that cat? Including evolution paths and the current market price for both materials and beast?"

"Are you going to use that information for the story?"

"Not really."

"Then, please, don't."

"Sure, this cat is called Gem Cat and it evolves with a Cat Gem, but due to rarity in cat gems, it price went high while the beast price went down. It's ability is greater than a Green Silk Worm..."

5 paragraphs later...

".. urghhh.... Are you going to buy the medicine now?!"

"Hey look, it's a Beast Dog pulling a cart instead of gas fulled automobiles. isn't that super good for the environment and instead of gas the owner only spends a little food?"

"... medicine?"

"Hey look the pharmacy buys worm silk. How about I explain the several types of worm silk in the market, their ranks, uses and the're produced?! Maybe I can use my cheat and start a Silk worm business to fund myself?"

7 paragraphs later...

"So, are you going to open a Worm Silk factory?"

"Not really."

(╯°□°) ╯┻━┻

"So anyways, this medicine is made of 7 types of beast plants, let's discuss the impact of magical beast plants in medicine..."

― (x_x) →

Maybe the writing will get better later and it's just the start that is so damn boring, so look for a review with more chapters. Or just read one of the four mentioned novels above instead. <<less

Good novel

It not like MC has too much of cheat as other characters also have that

Atleast there is logic in things nd not brain-dead arrogant characters

I like that atleast for once a MC in a monster tamer novel doesn't just follow the classic route of evolution like dragons & pheonix nd IS trying to find new more powerful evolution for his pets (I mean I was really bored of those man, y always be a pheonix/dragons to be powerful nd not other new creature more powerful than a pheonix/dragons)

As of this writing, I am caught up to the machine translation. past 250+.

It DOES get better up to that point. Weirdly enough story kept my interest going. I binged past the great translators since I was anxious to know 'what happens next!! give me mooar nows!!"

So stay with the translations and you'll get there too.

(or dare I suggest you too go the Dark Dao of Machine Translation.... muahahahaha!!)

Novel recommended to skim.

Proper summary: Main character Shi Yu crosses to a beast raising world similar to Pokémon but with typical Chinese beast tamer flavor. He has double cheats that make him unbelievably overpowered: 1) The ability to copy and teach any skill to a beast so long as author allows it & 2) The ability to ‘listen’ (see cutscenes) to plot events author wants Mc’s to hear to move the story along. MC starts off with a Panda (Iron eater) and Caterpie (worm).

Positives:

Author has fun poking fun at the... more>> main character and the silly stuff he does.

People in the world react with shock to Mc’s overpowered abilities.

MC bullying small kids and overconfident peerless arrogant beastmasters.

Info dumps about the world.

Overarching plot being slowly revealed.

A colorful cast of one note side characters: Ranging from Lu girl to the school tournament, there’s at least a big enough cast of characters to recognize.

Main character is not weak: MC is at least competent at coming up with strategies and often outwits his enemies.

Negatives:

Author includes a lot of MC whining. He’ll say he shouldn’t be curious or something like that and then instantly go against his narration.

Nonsense mention of archaeology: This is as cardboard cut out as it goes. MC never does any actual dig work because he can simply watch the past. Mainly just weak flavor text.

Main character suddenly becomes beyond OP (given millions of $) due to his cheat in unexplained manner.
Spoiler

Bureau 11 is the most ridiculous thing ever. Especially when the main contact is just a cute girl and we never see anything about them.

[collapse]

Lack of any threat: The MC at no point has any urgency. Nothing has ever not gone his way. In fact it’s stranger that he doesn’t abuse his ability more.
Spoiler

Ginseng makes it even crazier. MC can just isolate for a few days and become unbeatable.

[collapse]

Somewhat disappointing depiction of surroundings: There’s a lot of telling without showing like in the beast battles or when MC goes to a different place.

Extreme info dumps: You are told about a lot of unimportant stuff about the world and author likes to pad the story.

Extremely repetitive arcs: MC trains, beats a newbie, does an official task, inexplicably is gifted untold riches after doing his ‘listening’, and then wins an official tournament/trial. Recycle this several times and you’ve found the formula.

Awkward forced Chinese inferiority syndrome (CH189+) : China/Donghuang Dynasty was the best to exist ever. Island country full of Pirates. Arrogant foreigner arrives to be easily beat. All the tropey BS. Feels rather out of place when it’s added in.

Review summary:

The novel is barely okay at low points and fun to read at the highs. Main character is somewhat boring but has some good moments when he tries to act cool or get involved. You’re not getting anything surprisingly good, but it’s not the worst novel to start on. Ultimately a mediocre sort of novel but one you can skim for fun Overpowered Protagonist shock moments and every now and then cute beast moments.

Overall Score: 3/10.

Side note: Basically an inferior beast raising novel compared to Unable to Cultivate, I Can Only Raise Soul Pets, but slightly better than Pokémon Court. <<less

This review is solely based upon the original Chinese version, not the translated version.

The start of this novel is absolutely amazing. The author wrote good comedies, nice and lovable characters, and a very good and enjoyable plot. The main character's power is op but not to the point where he becomes the world's strongest in the space of a few chapters. He actually have to grow along with his pets from the start. It's fun reading him and his pets destroying people and other's reaction to their power.

But after chapter... more>> 300, a lot it started to disappear. The comedy became average and stale. The characters barely -- or if any at all -- get any development. The plot became more and more similar to a traditional power fantasy. And the reactions of others to the main character's power became dragged out and boring. -- But most of all, the author's writing style changed.

Originally, the author's writing style is fun and relaxing. He adds a lot of puns and jokes and played around with words. But after chapter 300, he lost a lot of what made his writing good. He started adding commas all over the place. A short sentence can have 4-5 commas, and a long sentence can have up to 9 commas. The commas added are completely unnecessary and destroys the immersion you get from reading this novel.

The novel starts to get more and more generic after chapter 300. The character's personality started fading away, the relaxing mood got destroyed because of the commas the author randomly added out of nowhere. And the plot got riddled with plot holes. It's like the novel lost its soul. Here's a sentence taken straight out of the original raws to show just how the commas destroyed the novel:

"At this moment, she as the spirit of the ruins, can clearly feel, whether it's the mandragora, or the sealed Dark Fallen Bull, their live energies have all disappeared!!!"

This is literally only a sentence in the novel. It's so painful to read. Now imagine every single chapter after chapter 300 written and filled to the brim with this type of sentence.

Recommended, but don't read past chapter 300 if you are not a fan of training your mental strength. <<less

Honestly, The novel has a nice concept but you can feel that it is mostly a female centred novel.

Everyone his age that he relates to more is female.

The most screen time belongs to females.

All illogical behaviours arise from his female actions.

for example, He met a lady who wanted to recruit him. He still went in blind.
It drove the plot a bit but then in the next arc, What does the second female have against him that he starts thinking to pay her back with something.

Also, Most males are cannon fodder.

His pets all happen to be female.

It feels like he does too much for females he gets in touch with.

Decent plot but terrible writing & Characters..

At first I enjoyed this novel, it is no masterpiece or anything but it is a fun read.

It is a system novel where the MC uses his powers to level his pet's, making their abilities stronger or copying abilities from other monsters and giving them to his pets, and while I'm not really a fan of system novels, it is fine every now and then.

The MC goes around collecting abilities for his pets and training them, he then competes with others and so on, you know how most of these... more>> novels are. There is nothing wrong with it of course, and it paces itself decently enough.

My problem with the novel is the translation. At first it was fine, but at around chapter 230~ I noticed a decline in the translation quality, sometimes feeling like a MTL novel, which really killed my enthusiasm for reading anymore.

Overall it is a decent novel if you are bored and want something to read, but the decline in translation quality latter on just ruined things for me. <<less

Not too bad. It's entertaining for when you want to just shut your brain off and relax. But it somehow got really bland and annoying.

First, there's no character worth a pint of emotion. Nobody's really developed character-wise, not even the MC. Nobody really grows or go through challenges. Everything just sort of works out for everyone on the MC's side and everyone else is just cannon fodder with one-line descriptions.

The author also likes to reuse plot points, there's been two conventions mentioned in the novel and both of them have... more>> gone the exact same way with the MC just winning. There's a tournament arc that just exist for him to showoff. There's nothing that feels important enough for you to care because you know nothing of negative consequence is going to happen.

And that's the biggest problem with the novel, nothing feels earned. The MC never do things in a way that makes achievements satisfying. It's just him throwing out an idea and somehow succeeding everytime. It's like playing a game but the game's been changed to cater to babies.

The cheat as well is really self-defeating. After a point, I was hoping for it to disappear if only for a period so that there would be actual development. It makes the story a lot less interesting when most of the characters are in a closed space doing repetitive things.

Apart from my complaints above, the thing that actually made me drop the novel was the introduction of the time element. Time powers are always wonky, hard to deal with and can break a story to pieces and shreds. And this novel definitely isn't great with it. There's a character who predicts sh*t for the MC and his pets, successfully taking the suspense out of what would be okay reveals and plot points. There's time travel too, which I didn't see implemented fully but it wasn't looking good in any positive way.

Tl, dr: Not good, not bad. Very bland. Very wonky. <<less

I'm loving following the novel, but some chapters are frustrating because they only show the status of the protagonist's pets, which I have no interest to read.

Also after about 300 chapters or less, the detailing of the protagonist's powers has decreased, now it's just the "action of adding points", without caring about the proficiency or anything

The novel started off with a very good setting: A pseudo-Pokemon + System + Chinese setting. However, I don't recall when it started but the translation getting worse in later chapters. The translation felt like it was pulled right off a machine translation with a minor touch up.

Anyway, the author decided that MC is going to be broken as heck. Characters that supposed to be powerful and the MC would outpowered those characters in like a snap of fingers. MC is so amazing super genius that kept discovering long lost... more>> evolution methods because why the heck not. Women (rich women) kept flocking to him and gave him resources because why the heck not. Setbacks? Setbacks is never in the MC's dictionary because he has none of it.

3/5. Novel is not outright bad but it didn't stand out in the sea of OP MC beast taming genre either. The only thing would keep people reading is to find out the beast's evolution and that is about it. <<less
