As the sole disciple of the Blade Immortal, Bai Zhengliu’s greatest talent lies in wielding a blade, while his greatest weakness is judging people.

At just twenty-two, he’s already renowned throughout the martial world. Everyone who meets him calls him “Hero Bai.”

Yet, at the same twenty-two, not only did his first love fizzle out, but he also caught his current boyfriend in bed with his ex, showing complete disregard for Bai Zhengliu.

As if the heavens thought Bai Zhengliu wasn’t unlucky enough, on the very day he caught them cheating, he encountered a ghost.

Bad news: A female ghost crawled out of a well and is approaching from the end of the corridor, getting closer by the second.

Good news: He’s not the only one who ran into the ghost—there’s also the panic-stricken, half-dressed couple in the room and a wronged swordsman who, like Bai, has been betrayed.

In this dire situation, Bai Zhengliu decisively extends an invitation to the wronged swordsman: “Brother, how about we escape together first?”

Mei Yinghan: “…” Silently draws sword

This novel is incredible. It’s the first time I’ve read a story that shows, in such detail, the gradual transition from a martial arts world into cultivation. It’s also the first time I’ve seen an author truly write out the process of ordinary people stepping into cultivation — from being regular humans to learning Qi Refinement and Foundation Establishment step by step.

In most cultivation novels, these “lower realms” are skipped over in a few lines, but here the story actually captures the confusion, uncertainty, and eventual determination of normal people... more>> encountering supernatural phenomena for the first time.

I also loved that the protagonist isn’t the typical cultivator who abandons martial arts once stronger powers appear. From beginning to end, they continue training with blades and swords. The martial artists in the story never give off that feeling of “now that I’ve learned stronger techniques, my old skills are useless.” Instead, cultivation enhances what they already are. Spiritual power makes them stronger, but it never destroys their dedication to justice or the values they started with. Even without spiritual power, they could still live meaningful lives.

That’s what felt so special about this novel. It wasn’t just that spiritual power shaped them — they also shaped what spiritual power became. It made me feel that power placed in their hands was something right and worthwhile. By the ending, I genuinely believed this group of people — or at least this generation — could create a miracle and build a beautiful new world where spiritual energy had only just begun to emerge.

It’s a shame we never got to see Danyangzi and Linghua reunite, but as the story says, simply being alive is itself a form of hope. Maybe after the story ends, they really do meet again someday.

The novel also mentions that the world itself is still growing, and by the end, it truly felt like this world could one day become something as grand as the “Great World” — or perhaps even better. <<less
