Five years into her solitary life in this new world, Ming Fei finds a successful match at the government’s Gene Incubation Center.
Using cutting-edge genetic technology, she nurtures a daughter in an artificial incubation pod.
Life with her daughter is blissful and serene. However, this peaceful existence comes to a crashing halt one afternoon when her daughter is two years old.
As usual, Ming Fei returns home from work, but the moment she opens her door, a black muzzle is pressed against her forehead. Looking up, she stares into a pair of indifferent, deep eyes.
“Under Article 43 of the Citizen Protection Act, the theft or trafficking of a military officer’s genes shall be prosecuted at the highest level, punishable by life imprisonment or death.”
The woman slowly and methodically removed her white gloves. “Ming Fei, do you plead guilty?”
In the past, Ming Fei had only ever seen that face on public broadcasts Zhu Yiqiao, the Chief Justice whom everyone in the Independent State feared and revered.
While the public was often distracted by her stunning, arresting beauty, they focused more on her superhuman precision with a sniper rifle.
The countless military honors she earned during her service, and her brilliant career trajectory as she was specially appointed Chief Justice after retirement.
Ming Fei never dreamed she would ever be connected to such a figure, let alone that Zhu Yiqiao was actually her daughter’s other mother.
When she learned that the tribunal had uncovered the truth behind the gene theft and that all those involved had been executed, Ming Fei’s feelings toward the Chief Justice turned to pure terror.
So, when her own sentence was handed down and turned out to be nothing more than a contract for a marriage of convenience, she stood frozen in shock.
“A marriage of convenience?”
From her high seat, the woman said coldly, “Miss Ming, you do not have the right to choose.”
Initially, Zhu Yiqiao viewed Ming Fei as a weak, incompetent, and clumsy nerd a “waste” who had no right to share a child with her.
However, after their marriage, Zhu Yiqiao finds herself making exception after exception for Ming Fei.
She begins to gift Ming Fei her own awards, honors, and medals. She even takes the initiative to unbutton her shirt to its highest point to soothe Ming Fei during her rut.
Eventually, when the agreement expires and Ming Fei prepares to leave, Zhu Yiqiao finds herself obsessed and infatuated. Devoutly and longingly, she allows herself to become Ming Fei’s possession.
“Fei, let me belong to you.”
