After the Breakup, He Washed Away the Memories

Rong Qiu is a beta, and an orphan at that.

Despite this, he excelled and gained admission to the best school in A Star, where he had a sweet and affectionate relationship with another beta. On the day they graduated and moved in together, Rong Qiu’s lover, Qin Ye, suddenly disappeared without a trace.

Rong Qiu searched every inch of A Star until one day, he entered the most famous bar and finally saw the person he wanted to see…. His lover, Qin Ye, seemed noble and distinguished, chatting and laughing nearby. The familiar voice, however, uttered words that sounded unfamiliar to Rong Qiu.

“I, Qin Muye, an S-rank alpha, the youngest son of the Qin family. Destined to marry an S-rank omega, how could I marry someone like Rong Qiu, an obscure beta, he’s simply just for fun before graduation….”

False name, false background—clearly, his once cherished love was now treated as worthless.

Realizing this, Rong Qiu woke up, used his remaining savings, and went to the interstellar mental clinic to erase his memories….

Since it’s alpha Qin Muye who doesn’t love him, Rong Qiu decided to remember only the beta Qin Ye, who belonged to him.

***

Facing the beta who left without a word five years ago, Qin Muye restrained his wrists, bit into his neck with menacing fierceness, but unexpectedly burst into tears.

“I missed you.”

Rong Qiu, bewildered, sniffed the unfamiliar scent and quickly pushed away the now uncontrollable alpha. His face showed the deliberate tenderness reserved for strangers.

“You’re not him.”

Though your appearance resembles him in every way, my lover is a beta, and an orphan named Qin Ye.

***

Qin Muye: Your ex-boyfriend…

Rong Qiu, smoking: None of your business, don’t mind this handsome boy’s business.

***

◆ Note: Multiple triggers, be careful when entering – cliché amnesia plot x self-sacrifice x initial antagonistic characters (including good ones, but look carefully) x bottom with a lovey-dovey brain (including giving up exams, raised in an orphanage, severely lacking love – if you can’t accept, stay away) x bottom has a catchphrase “ah” (habit since childhood, details in extra, if you can’t accept, stay away) x strong social class discrimination (if you can’t accept, stay away) x severe discrimination against beta (if you can’t accept, stay away) x has supplementary CPx to be added, chasing wife, dog-blooded clichés…

◆ If you can accept all of this, I wish you a pleasant reading.

One-sentence Summary: “Sorry, my boyfriend is already dead~”

Theme: Self-esteem and self-love, each person is an independent and free bird

To Brother Rong Qin: You are also a bad person! Don't be a hypocrite! If you really like Rong Qiu, you shouldn't make a 'bad drama' just to make Rong Qiu break up with ML and pushed him into despair. You're too much!

I hate ML coz his character was worse. But I hate Rong Qin more coz he looks like he supports and loves MC, but behind his back he pushed MC into despair.

What's up with the ratings?! I put 5 Stars just to balance it out 😤

I can be considered a regular in the Chasing-Wife-Crematorium trope, so I can say this: the dog blooded element in this novel is not as bad as the 188 series, or "The Obsessive Shou Moves On" or "Pain Fetish". It can be considered light.

The reviews before me probably didn't heed the tags or just not used to this type of story.

Yes, the ML, Qin Muye, is somewhat a s*umbag. But among other s*umbag MLs, the deadly... more>> sin he most committed is probably indifference. His character personality and views are quite similar to another ML in the 188 series "Alpha Predator", Qu Moyu. Such as S-Class Alpha deserves S-Class Omega to appease the pheromones needs. So he ignored his feelings towards our Beta MC, but not to the extent of violating him like Qu Moyu.

Our MC, Rong Qiu, is also similar to Shen Dai from "Alpha Predator", yet a Beta and much manlier than Shen Dai.

The ABO universe here is much harsher to Beta rather than the usual Omega, which is always somewhat baffling to me. I guess Author just want to fit the story however they liked, because imo, Beta should be in the middle hierarchy due to their non-pheromone bias. They can function the most normal in the society after all. But alas, any ABO story is always shaped this way, if the MC is Omega, then it's discriminatory towards Omega, if the MC is Beta, then it's Beta.

The amnesiac storyline give me enough satisfaction as the first few chaptes of reading MC being submissive as he can be, makes my heart bleed. It was explained that he was growing up without affection, so his views of love is unhealthy and distorted, however seeing him becomes humble in front of ML will make your heart itch. But all the unhappiness in these early chaptes are just that; not to the point you want to rip your heart out (I've read worse so I probably have lower bottom line).

Like you know the truth: if MC doesn't have such low esteem, he would probably pierce through the ML indifferences from the start. He would make scenes and ML, who tolerated him, will slowly realize his feelings.

Once MC forget ML, he's like everything you want in a MC: strong, independent, rational, witty, high-achiever, and the list continues... he makes my little heart moves, he's way cooler than ML at this point.

What is unique about the story, is that the side couple is even more fit to be a "chasing-wife-crematorium" than the main couple.

I thought this pair of AB couple was working well and can set an example to our main couple, but they spiralling into a real crematorium. It setting up a contrast with the main couple problem; that the ML is still a much decent guy. ML has his head in the right place, albeit his heart was astray in the past; but the other guy has his head astray, although his heart was already on the right place.

The ending is very fitting for both couple. It's quite consistent and realistic with their conflict, so you won't be disappointed.

And for those who always ails with 2nd Male Lead syndrome: don't bother there isn't any. 😂 It's quite hard to find another ML for our MC as he's truly capable of himself.

Lastly, a little bit pet peeve of mine: the narration of the story sometimes didn't let me enjoy hidden plot (s). It was told through a 3rd party, 'reader all-knowing' POV, but in some part, it tells too much. We readers know too much so it dampened the excitement.

Honestly, from me, this story can be a solid 4.1 stars. It's enjoyable. <<less

The people rooting for the "puppy alpha" obviously haven't read the whole story.
Spoiler

He is an obsessive stalker and drug rapist.

TaejiLee is right. Rong Qin aided in MC's despair but got to act like the good guy after. Both Rong Qin and Qin Zexi are insufferable because they despise the other gender yet they are married. Somehow, Qin Zexi is even more despicable since he is the first person who pushed MC into despair with toxic adoptive parents. I don't like them both.

The pacing does get exhausting. I skipped a little to get to the memory erasure. Felt immense satisfaction with how crushed ML was when he realized MC had forgotten him. Then got quickly exhausted with how low ML diminished himself to win MC back. The author started to insert a lot of conflict and conspiracy before resolving their relationship status.

For all intents and purposes, ML grovelled enough to win MC back I guess.

There’s absolutely nothing I like about the male lead, I wanted the MC to end up with the puppy like alpha guy. The male lead is a pompous bastard that needs to pull out the stick stuck up his ass, only reason I give this 3 stars is because I like the MC altho he was quite foolish before losing his memories. I haven’t completed yet, im not willing to read an Mel version so I’ll wait for the novel to be completely translated, but so far the male lead... more>> gen has no redeeming qualities. The way he looked down on the mc’s beta identity too was so gross <<less

It's actually 2 star, It's just that I only read around this much and was being generous cause of it. But don't get me wrong, I already have enough of it.

The only reason I read this book is that someone from the reviews with high ratings claimed that most low ratings were unjust ratings, yada yada. So I gave it a chance and read it.

I was expecting to read where the break up happens because that was what claimed in the summary but no. I still have to read their... more>> past relationship before this event. I would not mind, as with wife chasing crematorium, this part was always included, the difference was that it was told prior that the chase would be later, I thought this one would start fast on the chase arc, but no I still have to read it.

If only it was not annoying.

I did not even got to the part where a lot of readers hate the ML, I dont have the time yet to hate him. Because from an outside perspective, the ML never failed to show to the MC that they were just bedmates. Anyone with at least a decent IQ and EQ would get this. But no, the claimed genius MC did not know about this. WHICH was fine, some people are just clueless, if only he was not annoying.

I felt annoyed with the MC the more I read the story. Despite not jumping to right conclusions, he loved to jump to annoying conclusions. The more I read, the more I felt pissed of him. He always misunderstood things and the way he reacted from it was insufferable.

Maybe the whole reason why I was annoyed of him was due to the earlier chapters being their pre-breakup that I was already losing so much patience. But I felt annoyed with him nonetheless.

Does a person like him really exist in real life? I find it hard to believe. I have a degree in Psychology and I am not claiming I know enough about emotions and cognitive processes, but I am familiar with different facets and levels of intelligence. I know some people who have low IQs and EQs, they're pitiful but they are not this clueless as this MC is with signs and all. He just felt inauthentic to me, and whenever his quirk rose up, I just got progressively annoyed.

I mostly was just indifferent with the ML, like really, the person just payed you after s*x, like how could you misinterpret that s*upidly. He just thought of you as bedmates. I may like to side with the aggrieve party most of the time, but in this case, I could not put any blame from the ML. He literally payed him after they have s*x or monthly. How naive can you be to be so sure that that person loved you when all your life you never receive loved. Where was the insecurity? The hesitation if this was true or not? Was he confined in a single room in the orphanage to not know anything in the world. It would be more convincing if he was raised in a family who consciously made him innocent and unknowledgeable about the workings in the world, but that definitely was not the case. <<less

Oh boy how do I even start with this one.

I grew impatient as I read this novel, I was so mad at the ML that I can throw my phone outside the window and be done with it. ML is a total bastard and he's hopeless. MC keeps on suffering and its adding fuel to my anger, I thought this will be one 'ol satisfying amnesiac novel due to the description but none of this is satisfying at all. Just anger building up on me as I read this, oh... more>> well. <<less

Sometimes in toxic and possesive bl story you just want the MC to leave the ML and strive in his single life. This novel did a good job at this. It was so satisfying seeing the ML regretted, groveled to get MC back, until he accepted the fact that what he did was unforgivable so he let the MC go and be happy.

Spoiler

although they got back together in the end. But it only happened at the last chapters

[collapse]

The amnesia trope is handled well in this, and necessary. It's nice to see Qin Muye tried to win Rong Qiu back, only to find out that Qiu erased his memory about him. He only remembered the beta Ah Ye, not this alpha stranger in front of him. And it was satisfying to see Muye treated coldy by Qiu, just like what he did before. I can't count how many times I thought "oh how the tables has turned" when I read this. It was that good, and it actually open Muye's eyes on how badly he treated Qiu.

Some people might want to drop this because of the earlier chapters, don't. Keep going, Qiu's suffering might feel long and pathetic, but that's exactly what make the wife-chasing arc great!

I only rated 4 stars because of his brother, Rong Qin.

Spoiler

After they find out that they're siblings, things got a little bit boring and I just skimmed trough them

I read this specifically because I was looking for a wife-chasing crematorium story to complement my depression this season. I’m relatively satisfied.

I actually really like the characterization and relationship between the main couple. Even before the amnesia, you can tell the MC is a really strong guy. He’s just s*upid in love and traumatized. The ML is a s*umbag, but there are subtle hints about his initial feelings. And once you get to the end and get the full picture of his upbringing, you’ll kinda realize why he acted like... more>> that.

That said, I really hate how the other characters (read:Rong Qin) were dealt with. Brother f*cked up more than ML in my opinion.
Spoiler

Spoiler

He was the one who instigated the ML to do what he did at the bar, he was also antagonizing ML the whole time and telling him that the relationship was a bad idea and that he should break up with MC. Then he gets away scot free??

[collapse]
[collapse]

Spoiler

ML had to grovel. ML apologized, made amends, did a whole 180. ML was even super respectful of MC’s career (Rong Qin almost rioted when MC took over the volunteer army thing.)

[collapse]

I honestly can’t with him, although I understand why MC forgave him so fast. He’s the family he always wanted right?

Spoiler

Anyway, I’m glad the second couple crashed and burned. They’re a train wreck.

[collapse]

Anyway, I enjoyed this. Although I frankly didn’t enjoy the reading experience as much because the translation website has faulty linking. There are many chapters where the next chapter button leads to two chapters down, so I get so lost sometimes. I have to go back to the TOC to get the right chapter and it’s a hassle. But well, it’s free translation so whatever. Can’t make demands. <<less

I have very complicated emotions about this novel. The first half seems very promising, but I feel like it was very boring after MC got his memory back.

Agree with the other commenters around how the brother was dealt with. I was like huh?? That’s it?... more>>
Spoiler

Even when he’s part of the reason, he got away with no formal apology to the MC.

[collapse]
That kinda pissed me off. Even when the author tried to make us like him, I just couldn’t. Don’t even get me started on the direction the author decided to take with the brother couples. I feel like it’s so unnecessary to make a vital character all of a sudden so antagonized. It felt so forced.

Overall, the story had so much potential in the first half but failed to deliver in the second half. For those looking for crematoriums, I would still recommend “Don’t ignite it” or “Flying Ashes”. <<less
