The Core Story:

Famed generals, like beauties of old, are seldom permitted to reach old age.

During the Great Turmoil of the Cultivation World, Lin Changci, an Elder of his Sect, offered aid to the world, restoring the souls of countless Immortal Officials and Spirits, and ultimately turning the tide of the war. Yet, once peace was restored across the four seas, he was accused of possessing Demon blood and branded a spy. He was locked away in the Soul Severing Pagoda and eventually met the tragic fate of having his soul completely scattered.

Reborn in a small mountain village, Lin Changci assumed his heart would be dead after his soul was fragmented, yet he unexpectedly rescued a bullied, stray young lad.

After being saved, the young lad followed him everywhere, much like a puppy that couldn’t leave its nest. Everything he thought about centred on his Master, and his bright eyes warmed the heart.

After living as a recluse in the mountains for over a decade, the young lad grew from a stray into an elegant and handsome young gentleman. However, his reliance on his Master only grew; he followed him daily, begging for a comforting pat on the head.

To correct this dependency, Lin Changci finally decided to leave the mountains and re-enter the world to observe.

He didn’t realise that, ten years after his soul was scattered, his name was still circulated throughout the Cultivation World. Only now, the common consensus had flipped: he was no longer the condemned spy who colluded with the Demon Race, but rather… the fated, tragic ‘Moonlight’ ideal desired by all and lauded for his selfless devotion to the world?

The young lad who followed Lin Changci out of the mountain: “…”

Is the entire Cultivation World my love rival?!

$$Gong’s Perspective$$

In Wen Huai’s eyes, his Master was like the bright moon in the mountains visible, but utterly unattainable.

He guarded Lin Changci for nine years. Even though he only ever bathed in a fraction of that moonlight, his heart’s obsessive desire grew, escalating to the point of utter madness.

He wanted to drag his Master down from that lofty height, to see him mired in the mundane world, unable to escape. Yet, he also feared clutching that moon too tightly, of crushing it into fragments.

Wen Huai had always believed he was hiding his feelings well and that he could protect his Master for a long, long time.

Until Lin Changci’s soul was fragmented.

He disappeared without a trace, neither living nor dead. Wen Huai refused to believe his Master was simply gone. He searched like a madman, going so far as to use a forbidden Secret Technique, splitting off a wisp of his soul to collect Lin Changci’s scattered remnants.

But his Master was nowhere to be found. That moon had been utterly shattered.

Just as Wen Huai was about to tear off his peaceful facade and throw the entire hypocritical righteous path into chaos, Lin Changci surprisingly returned to him, alive and whole. And he brought a new disciple with him.

That disciple was younger than him, more vivacious than him, and knew better how to please his Master.

Wen Huai watched, his eyes nearly tearing from their sockets, driven practically insane with jealousy.

In the end, he discovered the new disciple was none other than the splintered soul he’d cast out years ago.

Wen Huai: ?!
