Zhou Yanling, a suspect in the Tongzhou 9/27 major mu*der case, appeared on the K4133 train. When the train conductor, Wu Fengrong first received this news, he began making the rounds, investigating.

On this train, various forces secretly wrestled; the truth was confusing, and the suspect was ambiguously entangled with the conductor.

Zhou Yanling had never encountered such a splendid person as Wu Fengrong, with a lovable physique and graceful charm. Zhou Yanling was so affected that he solicited that refreshing presence (1). Wu Fengrong was secretly wary that Zhou Yanling was concealing something profound. Who is he going to trick? It could be that he just wants to indulge. And when he was finished doing so, Wu Fengrong would not be able to keep himself from making a scene. In this moment, the two waited silently, each harboring their own designs and intents.

Thirty hours from Tongzhou to Baihe, the road is long…

Hello,

This is the translator. I didn't want to leave a review before I finished reading, but I was also reading as I translated. In terms of the translation, this was my first translation of a Chinese webnovel. I'd translated some academic articles before for my own research papers and was not at all prepared for something like this. As such, it took several chapters before I finally got the hang of translating. You can really see how the quality of the chapters improved as the chapter numbers increase! I'm... more>> planning on going back and redoing at least the first few chapters.

The translation itself isn't bad. It's also not the best. As I said above, the first few chapters are readable, but the quality increases later on.

As for the novel itself, the characterizations become more believable as the novel progresses. Some of this is most likely a result of my translation (I'm sorry Jiangting laoshi, I didn't do your writing justice), but I also don't feel like it was realistic for the MC and the ML to have s*x in a toilet just after meeting. Especially since, at this point, Wu Fengrong believes that Zhou Yanling is a wanted mu*derer. That aside, the later chapters expound on their developing relationship in a more realistic manner.

I think most of the characters are pretty interesting. Jiangting laoshi really spent time fleshing out their motivations. The actions of most of the characters were profound and you could see how they really formed the weft and weave of the plot, even if some of those actions and motivations were reprehensible.

The plot is really something fun. I had fun watching everything unfold. There were some crazy and interesting plot twists! And the person that I thought would be the mu*derer definitely was not the mu*derer! I could gush more, but then there would be spoilers.

In short, this was a lot of fun to translate. And I think it makes a fun read! It's not always realistic, but then it's fiction. Definitely worthwhile! <<less

★★★★☆ [3.5/5 stars]

This novel reminded me so much of Agatha Christie's mu*der on the Orient Express and one of the arcs from the danmei Card Room. Everything happens inside a moving train. In my honest opinion, the plot and the mystery of this novel is quite decent. Maybe I've already read tons of mystery crime/suspense books that this isn't really something that stood out among the rest, but this is still good and satisfying.

What I really liked about this the most is the absolute chemistry between the MC and the... more>> ML. From the very first chapter, I can already feel the palpable s*xual tension from where I sit. You can see how they really can't resist the mature attraction between them. The confession part is one of my favorites though. That's one hell of direct yet heartfelt and mature confession! Perfectly fit for the tense situation.

All in all, this is a satisfactory read. It's fairly short with a total of 33 chapters and can be read in one sitting. I personally enjoyed this a lot but should also remind you that there's some mature scenes in here so read at your own discretion. <<less

WOW!*standing applause* what a true 'evil train'.

From start to end, it filled with mystery, suspense, and keep me excited for the next chapters. The characters are not OP, so we got the revelation bit by bit, and it's delicious with perfect climax and ending.

And the CP, I love them! Both are men in their 30s and they hit off from the start without any drama. They mutually attracted, their explosive desire for each other, and just get together. Balanced couple, mature, with healthy communication. Perfect!

The beginning was really sexy and I wanted to like it but it became increasingly ridiculous.

It's not a good mystery story -- the MC and ML constantly judge and make assumptions about people with no real evidence. They hypocritically harp about the rule of law and then they dispense extrajudicial beatings based on intuition. The logic of the story is flimsy at best.

It's also not a very good romance. ML starts love bombing MC right after they have s*x. He starts calling MC "Rongrong" and talking about marriage / living... more>> together / sharing finances / family background on the first day they meet. MC introduces ML as his boyfriend to the crew

Spoiler

after a mu*der scene without definitive evidence that he's not the mu*derer.

[collapse]
It's like full turkey baster on a second date.

I also dislike how MC has a "little bro" following him around. He even says that he cares more about sincerity than perfection when it comes to personal relationships. It turns out this means he prefers having a loyal idiot follow him everywhere.

On top of that the author couldn't leave well enough alone, and had to give ML a "heroic" military character setting, and to make him rich to boot. If he was just an ordinary insurance claims adjuster who turned out to be really smart, it would be a cool and unique character design, but no, he has to be s*upid, clingy, and a veteran who magically has a lot of money.

Also, foxaholic's redirect ads are just awful. I got one which tried to download an apk to my phone.

Having said all that, I have to give credit to the translator, they clearly put in quite a bit of effort. <<less

Awesome short novel, with a tight little plot and plenty of action. This does read like an action movie, with plenty of contrived plots, some plot twists and not much realism... but so much fun! The 2 protags are both mature manly men in their thirties, "old rogues" as the author describes them. Hop on board this train for a thrill ride and see how these 2 rogues fall in love but beware... the title is indeed true... there is evil on board.

This should be called A Rollercoaster named Evil! Because it was a short but spicy rollercoaster ride!

Its only 32 chapter so don't expect an intricate plot and super developed characters. In saying that, I thought it was really well done even though it was short. I like the main two characters and the case just got more interesting the more I read - I was constantly guessing and drawn to the narrative.

The last few chapters were a rollercoaster of emotions and adrenaline - almost too fast but again this is... more>> a short narrative.

Easy to read and enjoyable. Would reccomend for a short but intriguing read. <<less

An interesting story with suspense and mystery. The crime solving part was well done. I love the balance between the romance and the mystery. The couple are also compatible with sizzling chemistry 🥰 No pushover characters; they're both strong and capable

Spoiler

Didn't knew they would survive it all at last🤗

[collapse]

I like how the story was narrated from the 3rd POV, it was befitting. The length was okay. I wish there were a sequel just for their romantic life 😅

Translation well done 👍

Mystery spicy.

We got on a three bound for the north snow. Among the passengers a mu*der suspect and many possible victims, however, not everything is as it seems and as often happens in police novels, the bad ones do not have to blame them, nor the victims, the innocent.

To all this we will add a dose of R-18 to complete this long and cold journey.

A short novel, with an interesting plot and easy to follow. For those who want a detective-style novel but without endless turns and that also includes... more>> a romantic plot. <<less

That was Definitely a WILD RIDE!

It's not just a Mystery Solving and some Tension and even s*xual Tension. And I'm not talking about the Great Smutt. I'm talking about how there's so many INTENSE SITUATION of Life Threatening and Passengers Crying kind of Scenes!

MC's Characteristic even more Emotional than I Expected but that makes him different from many other Protagonist and even more realistic.

... more>> No Perfect Situations and Conclusion that make things intense. They guess the real mu*der, but the situation is not Over!!!

I'm just Glad MC and ML still has each other. They found each other in the right time and fall for each other not too fast but also not slow. And I'm LOVING IT!!!

Totally Recommended! <<less

Uhmm, 2.75ish. So, I'm rounding it to a 3.

Mainly because the beginning had a lot of promise, but then it all went out of the window.

If I try to dissect the novel, I'll just end up repeating what @toleroid said — the overall "mystery" is weak, and the novel is riddled with plot holes that, at some point, you just can't ignore. The more the story progresses, the more information is given in crumbs, and each crumb somehow makes everything even more convoluted. That doesn't stop the main characters (Fengrong... more>> & Yanling) from jumping to conclusions out of thin air, only to go "oh shit, this is a trap" — and this repeats at least three times. A lot of things end up being explained with hand-waving and "trust me bro, " to the point it feels like there are exactly two crew members on the train, and everyone else is blind and plain incapable of thinking, existing just to make a ruckus and obstruct the main pair.

Now, as for the main pair — yep, they shack up within the first 20 pages. No preamble. I thought there would be some actual tension, considering both of them were basically willing to hook up no questions asked, but nope. It's framed as "plot reasons" on Yanling's side, but then it immediately turns into this clingy, stuffy "romance", with sudden promises of a life together and all that. On top of that, Yanling keeps throwing himself into the most inane situations just to stress Rongrong out, make him cry, and then kiss him the moment he gets the chance.

Also, their mental capacities in no way match 30+ year olds. Yanling even says he's "almost forty" — dude, what. I really don't enjoy when novels treat 32–34 year olds like they're ancient or halfway into the grave. Ageism is an ugly thing, please just stop.)

Spoiler

(The extra was also... weird. I get the whole Chinese cultural context of respecting elders, especially parents, but I really didn't enjoy how the whole situation frames Rongrong's father's anger about Fengrong and Yanling being a pair as... okay. He almost straight-up attacks Fengrong during the family meeting. It left a pretty bitter taste in my mouth.)

I loved how this all came together.

I loved the maturity of the main characters and I loved how this wasn't any high school or college first time dating kind of deal.

The conductor won my heart right from the get go. Gotta love a man who knows what he wants and how to get it. Gotta say too that I loved how certain parts of the story weren't exactly as you may have thought when you first started reading this.

This is a fun, exciting tale and it is nice to see... more>> protagonists who aren't in their twenties. <<less

thiss is so good!! The whole time I feel like watching a thriller movie full of suspenses and mysteries. I keep on making assumption, try to guess the real mu*derer/ criminal and get nervous at times 😂 and yes, the couples are so manlyy I love them!! Their interaction feels real, and not excessive. Overall, this novel deserves five stars!
