The one rule is simple: don’t pry.

And over warm dinners, the two of them slowly fall in love.

Minoshima Asaki’s one-man apartment, if described in a single word, was a mess.

He had supposedly earned his “castle of solitude” on one condition: as long as his grades didn’t slip, he was free to live however he liked. But in reality, that castle was overrun with convenience store bags and unwashed dishes.

Then one day, Asaki’s castle suddenly became a refuge.

The graceful, beautiful girl from his class──Shinomiya Shiori──started dropping by his apartment after school and staying there.

Because she couldn’t bring herself to eat at home.

“Am I always causing you trouble?”

“If you were, I’d have sent you home a long time ago.”

“…Minoshima-kun, you’re really kind.”

“Quit it. Here, use the kitchen however you want. Just make as much of whatever you think tastes good as you want.”

He won’t pry. In exchange, she cooks dinner.

And so begins an awkward arrangement: a relationship built around dinner, something just short of living together.

The stockpot of miso soup in the kitchen starts lasting longer.

Before they know it, grocery shopping becomes something they do as a pair.

Their hands somehow move in sync as they dry the dishes side by side.

His best friend catches on and teases him, and before he can help it, Asaki draws a line to protect her.

And little by little, Shiori stops covering up those occasional days when she doesn’t want to go home with a smile.

At first, Shiori was nothing but restraint and hesitation, but little by little, she starts allowing herself to lean on him.

At first, Asaki wanted nothing to do with anyone else’s problems, but little by little, he starts letting her into his world.

This is a heartwarming romantic comedy about two lonely people finding salvation through dinner──a relationship that’s less than living together, but more than just sharing a meal.

Pretty much a Mahiru-like. The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten: Commuting Wife Edition.

So far, it doesn't do anything new, but I feel like the interactions between the two leads are really nice. There hasn't been unneeded glazing of the MC which I really hate (like Amane gets in Angel Next Door) . He's just a well-adjusted teenager who lives alone, which is peak teenage boy shonen protagonist goals. FeMC is your typical Takane no Hana archetype all teenage boys dreamt of at least once. Like I said, nothing... more>> groundbreaking here.

What made me like this story is the interaction between the two leads. It feels more natural unlike some other Mahiru-likes where situations feel forced (well, aside from their first meeting) . There is no "Don't touch my woman!" scenarios here, or any kind of dialog where it feels like it was just added just to stroke the non-existent alpha male ego of MC and by extension to the lonely, single, male reader (looking at you, Amane) . The progression of their relationship felt natural (again, aside from how they first met) to the point where I sometimes go "... Yeah, I think it's the right time they hugged."

I really like the fact that there is no objectifying label to the FeMC in this series. She doesn't get called as an Angel, or the Madonna of the Highschool, or One of the Four Great Beauties, or any other bullsh*t like that... she's just known as the beautiful, demure girl in their grade who is single but not ready to mingle.

'It doesn't feel like it's written by an introverted author who hasn't felt the touch of a woman', is what I'm trying to say.

If you're looking for a nice, wholesome Mahiru-like romance that doesn't glaze the MC like he's the second coming of Jesus or have characters objectifying the FeMC like she's some kind of divine angel saintess, this might be it. <<less
