AHHHHH finally the novel is being translated!!! I've read the webcomic and I love it! Now I can read the original novel too!!

Its a really heartwarming story, and the characters are so lovable!!! Give it a try you won't regret it!!

I see that a lot of reviews for this novel are mostly speaking about the manhua and I think that's where a lot of people go wrong. Never read a CHINESE novel manhua before reading the story manhua's tend to skip detail and the indept thoughts of the main characters don't carry through especially since it's Chinese it's gonna get censored the hell out of.

But anyways after that rant, time for my actual review

I quite love this novel the main characters are really sweet, they're relationship with each other is... more>> so well done and though they do start of as friends they do explicitly realise their feelings and start to date so if you're worried this is one of those friendship bls where it's never clear, don't be.

This is more a slice of life about growing & finding a place to call home

has to be my favorite Wu Zhe novel so far

This story is a cream of the crop example of the slice-of-life genre. I mean yeah there's a slight mystery element and drama at the start, but in the end the majority of the novel is about maturing to adulthood and finding a place to call home.

The writing of the characters and realism was phenomenal. Of course, if it was only 'we're going to highschool and then working a part-time job', you know, the daily routine, I would still be bored, but there is just enough sadness and... more>> tension in the plot, especially in the first part, that it kept me hooked to read through their entire journey. The mystery aspect isn't the main focus of the story either (even if it's listed in the genres), but after I finished the first arc I pretty much had to get to the end because of it, even if the middle did drag at times in excitement.

There was only one instance that lacked any sense of realism --

when the ML was stabbed because he was talking on the phone with the MC, who happened to choose that moment to confess to the ML, which made the ML distracted. lol but I mean it wasn't so cringe that I'm gonna dock star ratings for it.

The mood and conversations between the MC, ML, and side characters in this novel just flows so casually with tons of humorous dialogue. MC has a stutter and lived through domestic ab*se, and the ML has insomnia and depression. Neither is perfect. The MC and ML's fathers are both interesting characters on their own as well. It was nice to see family relationships included and rather complex

One complaint I have is that the mystery portion never comes into big play, don't expect these two to go around fighting baddies and solving crimes. They don't have the resources or ability to investigate the main 'mystery'. It's more like they just occasionally dragged into the conflict or another character gives them a clue/updates them about said mystery status, until it is neatly resolved within the last 20 chapters. This does help keep the realism aspect going, but it felt like the middle half of the novel got a bit boring... because at that point the MC had already matured as a person and the ML had also collected his emotions, so there really was little going on besides normal stuff.

What I enjoyed most was the banter and interactions between the MC and the ML. The MC is like a clumsy and lovable dog. He is extremely loyal and dedicated to the MC for reasons that are understandable, but grows into a stronger character as the story progresses, to the point that he's almost unrecognizable from the sad mess of a human he was as the start of the story. The ML is rather sarcastic and humour, but has a very gentle side towards the MC. Their relationship just feels equal and harmonious, and the novel never gets too caught up in the plot that this romance seems side-tracked. They are a switch couple.

Read if you want a story with a very equal relationship and entertaining dialogue, along with the melancholy of growing up under pressing (but realistic) circumstances, such as poverty or depression.

Wu Zhe is probably my favorite BL author. Their writing always seems to keep a realistic atmosphere, delving into certain serious topics like poor family upbringing or mental ailments, while also incorporating enough drama for entertainment. Among their novels, I do think I like Saye and Antidote a bit more than this one, but this story definitely ranks up there. You can read this story as a manhua, as well. <<less

I am currently reading the manhua and it is soooooooo good !The realationship between those two can't be separated with words. If you are thinking "should I read ?" then don't think too much and start reading !!!! And I am glad this novel get the translation. Thank you for picking this up translator.

I am waiting for more update and hope this will get fast update.

You won't find an actual shounen ai, I thought this one is more 'friendship' than 'romantically things'. But this story is so sweet. I like their interaction. :"

So I read the manhua of this, and while I loved reading about our doggo Junior and his boyfriend Hank, I did feel this did not have that same Wu Zhe feeling to it. This makes sense as manhuas don't have all the descriptions and narrations that traditional books have - its more of a visual experience, which adopts a show, don't tell approach. But while the manhua was beautifully illustrated, I do kind of regret not reading the danmei first (I would have if the danmei was fully translated).... more>> I will definitely give the danmei a go when it is closer to completion.

I don't mean to have my review be full of complaints, this was such a fun read, but I just wish it was longer and more detailed. In this we did not get to see much about Hank's depression, his progress with his psychologist, and his road to recovery. While reading the book I was barely able to tell that Hank had depression, and if it were not for the summary on here, I think I could have chalked it up to him needing to take medication for sleep. As I have not read the danmei, I'm unsure if it goes into more detail there, but I hope it does.

So basically I just wanted the manhua to be longer and more detailed. There was not anything in there that I didn't like, I was just yearning for more.

This is a 5 star book, but I just so happened to read it in a 4.5 star medium. <<less

Oh My Goodness. A new update after months of waiting. Thank you translator-sama.

To be honest I've read just 2 chapters and looks promising. I am piling up the chapters because I do not like to wait for updates every day.
