Trying to explain my personal taste:

- Not a huge fan of comedy novels or goofy MC

- I like nice and normal MCs who aren't horrible people. Also people who don't show off.

- I like novels where the MC grows.

- I like novels that shows a bit of realism, taking things from real life. <<less

+ Shiroi Kyotō (白い巨塔, literally "The White Tower") is a 1965 novel by Toyoko Yamasaki.

Novels that are better written than 99% of the other ones on this site. Prefer seinens, generally really dislike shounens and shoujos.
