HEY, quick TW for anyone interested:

Spoiler

Dubcon like CRAZY throughout.

Non-consensual somnophilia - ML touches + grinds himself against MC while he's asleep multiple times, both on and off camera (a few scenes are written in detail, but it's mentioned that he does it most nights). Never discussed or revealed in the main story.

Oodles of manipulation - ML shows a very different face to the MC vs everyone else. MC is very much unaware that the puppy he's raising isn't as naive or innocent as he seems and there's soooo many layers to this.

Quasi-drugging/addiction - There's an omegaverse aspect carried over from the MC's first life. ML starts to present as an Alpha and learns that his pheromones can affect MC's mood and sleep. He basically doses MC every night with pheromones so he goes into a very deep sleep to commit the aforementioned somnophilia. He also realizes that because of his nightly actions, MC can no longer sleep without him which bleeds into...

Forced reliance/emotional manipulation - MC and ML get kidnapped and are separated and imprisoned separately. MC suffers due to the isolation and bare bones quarters and starts to heavily rely on the ML's allowed guiding visits to keep his sanity. He also can't sleep without ML and starts to deteriorate mentally and physically.

ML is aware of this and admits that he is capable of getting them out pretty much whenever but decides to stay so he can use MC's vulnerability to make him rely on him and see him as more than just a child. ML pretends that he's suffering to tug on his heartstrings and to allow the ML to push past the boundary of intimacy that the MC has already set. He waits until MC is at his breaking point before breaking out of the villain's hideout.

Voyeurism/slight exhibitionism but not for gratification but bc ML doesn't care - In this kidnapping arc, the MC's prison is equipped with cameras and they are being constantly watched. ML pushes the intimacy x10000 in this arc and MC is often too caught up with pheromones to be able to resist or hide. ML also jerks off a ton post-guide visits and doesn't care if his minders watch.

[collapse]

I cast no moral judgement on anyone who does or does not enjoy the above - just wanted to point it out since it hasn't been extensively discussed yet.

Like the first half! Great character story where Taerim has to navigate being an entirely different person who has been slandered to hell and back. The character conflicts were really fun and even the main "villain" of this arc was nuanced and sympathetic even if it didn't excuse his choices. There's a tragic B story in the background and I actually want to read more about it because it's interesting.

The second half drags and focuses more on the romance - the ending feels like it's setting up for another arc with another character introduction but it ends a little haphazardly with that being open ended.

I don't know if it continues into the side stories because I actually wasn't very interested in seeing more of the story! Maybe I'll pick it up when they're released for free.

Wordbuilding is interesting, if a bit limited to the district the main story is set in. We only get a glimpse outside of the literal walls for a few chapters and it's not explained well. I love the systematic and bureaucratic approach to espers and guides and how they work as a governmental system though. It feels really grounded and like it's a lived in place that has existed for long before Taerim isekaied instead of a fantasy novel with unrealistic settings.

The omegaverse aspect was half-needed, half-not. I feel like it was a good tool to understand Taerim and his insecurities as a person but it was mostly a tool for Juho to use to further their relationship. I think the author wanted to push more but also didn't want to think about what an ABO world would look like if it was placed into a setting that is very much not equipped to handle it.

If you're chill with the TW, it's not bad and pretty fun times! I rounded it four stars since I really did like ~75% of it but it's really closer to a 3! <<less

I enjoyed what has been translated so far (up to Ch 26) - so far the MC actually proactively works to solve the issues he faces, and I like the idea of him coming from an ABO world. While the setting is very common the MC is an unusual protagonist who is sensible, steady, and approaches his career as a career, solving problems like a grownup and is not a weak flower who depends on the ML. Rather the ML is dependent on the MC to some extent.

The ML is... more>> a wolf disguising himself as a young puppy, which is not unusual in this kind of story but I like the younger ML/older MC dynamic. The issues that come with the ML’s background aren’t just glossed over and affect the relationship in realistic ways. <<less

Love the Novel and translation so far... But looking at the chapter prices makes my wallet shiver and and my savings cry ( ꈨຶ ˙̫̮ ꈨຶ ). For context the Novel is fully translated, however the locked chapters are published twice a week. Make no mistake, I understand why the chapters are priced to what they are, and I truly respect that the website is trying to be fair to the translators. I just lament the low conversion rates my country has, because if it were higher I would've brought... more>> the whole novel in a heartbeat ( : ˘ ∧ ˘ : ). But since my country's currency is as strong as a malnourished twig, I'll just wait until Google Books publishes the raws so I can purchase the Novel legally.

Moving onto the actual review:

For Tae-rim (MC), I initially didn't like his character. The early chapters made me expect him to be a pushover whose oblivious to the espers around him. However, as the story progressess we get to see more of his character, boundaries and actions influenced by his past and there I say traumas as an Omega. It's undeniably nice to see an MC be kind but at the same create boundaries towards others.

Meanwhile Juho (ML) gives me mixed signals. I can't say I dislike him but I can't say I do like him either. He puts on this act when MC is around where he tries to act "childlike, " and I understand trying to be cute for a crush but it genuinely gets to a point. However, since it's only a quarter of the Novel I hope this act genuinely disappears.

Other Espers: There are other potential MLs here in the form of espers, like Hae-beom and Jae-heon. In all honesty, I'm really leaning towards Jae-heon rather than Juho, our Novel's ML. Jae-heon just seems more realistic to me, with a better character. He knows how important MC is, and has respected MC's boundaries from the start. He has a small crush towards him but still distances himself because he knows Juho likes Tae-rim as well. However, given the chance he will get closer to MC as long as MC's fine with it. <<less

I thought it was a fun read as a guideverse novel that even had omegaverse elements.

I found Lee Taerim a sensible protagonist given his background (an omega) and his current circumstance (transmigrated to a villainous guide character).

He worked with what he had and did what he could to adjust. It was amusing to read this thoughts about the world of the novel he found himself in and getting to see other sides to the story he didn't get to know, only having the point of view of the "book's protagonist"... more>> before.

For example:
Spoiler

The reason why the villainous character never gets sacked from their workplace despite the numerous complaints the leading man of the book filed was because OG!Lee Taerim is simply a better employee compared to the book's protagonist, who mostly rolls around with the book ML.

[collapse]

Other characters were also interesting to read about, whether they're on team Lee Taerim or not. The guideverse world setup isn't so bad. There were some relatively uncommon elements like having expedition parties and somewhat

a relative abundance of S-Class Espers

.

As for the ML, I thought it was funny how he could be scarily two-faced, puppy-like to MC but a cold demon king to most.

ML is truly dedicated to the MC. Espers are already usually obsessed with their guides. But ML is doubly so, because,
Spoiler

he managed to acquire some alpha traits. Add the part where he was abducted as a boy and got experimented on until he was barely an adult, treated more like an object than human. He goes on a rampage when he awakens and the person who saves him is our MC. MC then takes care of him until he can somewhat function in society. MC, thus, is his major life benefactor.

[collapse]

The reasons for obsession has piled up, and with what happened to him, ML's mind is understandably far from normal. His temperament and way of thinking can be titillating and amusing to read about. However, it's oh boy alarming if someone's like that IRL.

It gets rather unsettling during
Spoiler

the part where they get kidnapped and ML puts off escaping partly because he wants MC to increasingly want him, risking MC's well-being. And even before that, ML devises ways to make MC also dependent on him. Like, extensively using his pheromones to lull MC to a deep and relaxing sleep, which makes MC unconsciously long for ML's pheromones to get restful sleep.

[collapse]

In a fictional setting, it can be seen as ML's clumsy yet calculative way to get MC meet him where he's at. MC initially sees him as someone to be raised then someone who'd leave eventually. ML wants MC to want him the way ML has been pining for MC.

But like how some of the characters around MC and ML feels, there's considerable concern and wariness regarding ML. Cool if you find that thrilling, but read something else if it's not your jam.

It ends on a fairly good note, with a bunch of side stories to settle the fates of some of the side characters. It does not answer everything, but you get answers for most of it sort of situation.

While reading, I didn't feel the need to relocate my brain to a bin. If the story was a house, it was moderately furnished. Then again, I'm not exactly that much of a smart person to begin with and my morals are slightly askew, so take this with a grain of salt.

Overall, I found it cute that I even endured the wonky MTL when the translated chapters ran out, and somehow also reread it. After scouring around diligently for guideverse stories, I'd safely put this on my reading list if I had any. <<less

The premise and the first half of the story is great. The climax and conclusion for each part is kinda lacking (?). Starting from certain chapter, reading felt like reading summary of happenings rather than reading a story. It was fine overall, but I really wished the execution was better because the first half was pretty intriguing.

Spoilers ahead~

Regarding the Villain Organization

Spoiler

Uhh... MC got kidnapped and ML took the chance to make MC dependant on him. Afterwards, he destroyed it like no big deal. Hello? I thought the evil organization is a big deal but apparently ML is just too over powered 🥲

[collapse]

Regarding the Romance

Spoiler

Well... Again, MC got kidnapped and ML took the chance to make MC dependant on him. Afterwards, it leans very heavily on the omegaverse side with pheromone attraction and dependancy.

[collapse]

Regarding OG MC and OG ML

Spoiler

They have practically 0 dialogue after OG MC runs away and their story is kinda told in the background. Granted, I haven't read the side story. Might update it if there's a proper conclusion to this part.

[collapse]

Long story short, I wished the story is longer so they can properly progress through the fight against the villains, the romance, and the story of side characters properly in more details. About chapter 80 onwards, the story becomes slice of life-y and other than the intimacy scene, the part with other characters feels like reading just a summary. <<less
