Unconventional Saint

Fake Saint

[Please let the light of the Saint shine upon every corner of the Wasteland!] : “Saint Growth Plan” System

When a “saintly act” is performed, a judgment will be made. Once the system determines the act aligns with the Saint persona, Saint Points can be accumulated. With Saint Points, you can shop in the store. Equipment? Skills? Food? It has everything you could possibly need.

[Host, that wasn’t a saintly act at all!]

“It’s not like only saintly acts can be judged.” Zheng Yi remained perfectly calm, continuing her slicing. “Zero One, we must be bold in our assumptions and careful in our verification.”

[Ding! Detected someone believes from the bottom of their heart that the Host is a Saint! Assessing emotional intensity…]

“My dear, I can feel your devotion.” Zheng Yi’s voice was incredibly gentle, her smile exceptionally kind. “In that case, can you be just a little more devout?”

“I forgive your offense and absolve you of your sin.” Submit, or die.

“You’ve been blinded by desire, deeply afflicted by lust. You can’t control yourself, wasting time that should have been spent strengthening yourself on violating others… You… you’re truly rotten to the core.”

“I am Zheng Yi. I am the Saint. Repeat after me: Zheng Yi is the Saint.”

“Zheng Yi is the Saint!” She is a demon, a devil, a lunatic, the source of all evil! Her hands are stained with blood; her sins are beyond forgiveness.

But she… is the Saint.

“Being a Saint? I’m a professional.”

“I call you ‘Jiejie’ (older sister), but you don’t really think I’m some pure, harmless little sister, do you?”

“…I know.”

“I’ve long known you weren’t what you seemed.”

“You… like me?”

“…”

Yu Yinan felt as if she’d been split wide open, but in her heart, she was just as lost. “I don’t know,” she said.

“Jiejie, am I in your heart?”

Zheng Yi seemed to become harmless again, her lively dark eyes sparkling with innocent light: “Jiejie, can I dig out your heart and see?”

“I don’t know… I don’t know…”

“I…”

“…Go ahead and dig… Dig it out… Let me see, too…”

You know... I really love how complex this story is. It never failed to bring me feelings of joy and sadness, as stories should.

Something I really appreciated was the way the relationship developed.

Spoiler

1st: If there was a top and bottom, it would be Zheng Yi and Yu Yinan.

2nd: The reveal of what Zheng Yi was a surprise to me and added more to the relationship rather than distracting from it, like many other stories do.

Too often I read a story in which the characters knew each other from before, which always ruins the idea of the meet cute for me. Those stories make me feel like the author is saying human connection does not matter, that these two people are destined to be together, and that these ending is so predictable.

For me, the main selling point is Zheng Yi, as a character and as a mystery. Both of these never failed to surprise me in a good way.

The system 01 as a character was pretty good and served as the

Edit 3/7/26:

On second thought I will rate 4/5 because of TW

literally if there is a newly introduced group of female characters, they likely will have or known someone who experiences s*xual violence in the apocalypse. This could be considered realistic, but stories are written by people not society as a whole. I think it's just boring that every conflict in which people are massacred by the protagonist are just evil.

If someone told you that the sky was green, you obviously wouldn't believe it, right? You have eyes, and you know what "green" looks like. But let's say there's a lunatic who's deadset on making you believe that from the bottom of your heart, and they're going to torture you until you give them what they want. Could you make yourself believe?

Making people believe you're a "Saint" is hard, but if their choice is between that and a slow, agonizing death, it's not so hard. That, put together with some... more>> top-tier acting from a two-faced host, and the apocalypse is nothing more than a playground for these two.

The relationship development is very, very good - something like a cult leader x devoted believer. Toxic to the extreme, yet oddly sweet at times. Zheng Yi is a fake, indifferent, and cruel "Saint", but Yu Yinan is willing to believe, is willing to give everything to her, including her heart. It's clear that Zheng Yi feels something for her, but this kind of "specialness" would be a curse for anyone else. It's unclear if Zheng Yi is even capable of emotions like love or compassion, or if everything she does is for the sake of "Saint points".

In this novel, even the system is more human and empathetic than the host. But Zheng Yi is like a black hole, one that no one can escape, and the people/systems around her can't help but be warped by her pull. And like a black hole, no one knows what's inside. <<less
