I’ll give you a chance to live a new life.

You only need to accomplish one thing:

Condition for Success: Save Gu Jei

In a world destroyed by a dungeon break, Baekgu regresses through time thanks to the Prophecy Book.

He can live again and start over from the beginning.

Born as Experiment 109 in a research lab, and later living as a cult leader’s dog after escaping, this was his chance to change his miserable life.

To secure a happy new life, Baekgu disguises himself as “Yeo Hanseo” a missing person from Gates and approaches the national hero, Gu Jei.

He finds a way to stay by Gu Jei’s side, who is suspicious of the guide who “coincidentally” showed up at the perfect time.

But that method…

“To become an exclusive Guide, you must be married to an Esper.”

…Marriage?

Naturally, Hanseo had never even considered marrying Gu Jei.

After reading another reviewer's review I began to believe that this story might make me disappointed or not worth the read. But Oh boy was I wrong.

First off I would like to point out to the reviewer above that the story and characters are much more complicated than that.

The story starts off with MC before dying to a monster, flipping through a supposed prophecy book as a last desperate resort, believing it to be an item with actual abilities.

To his surprise though, the book tells him that in order to... more>> save himself, he must save Gu Jei aka ML who at this point in time is dead.

When he gets sent into the past MC first obtains the fake identity of 'Hanseo' a boy that had went missing years ago after falling into a gate.

He eventually approaches ML through this identity. Now bear in mind when MC and ML officially meet in the story ML was being taken advantage of by a Guide from the Centre which inadvertently resulted in him almost going into a rampage/ unstable state.

At that point, MC just so conveniently steps in to save ML and JUST SO CONVENIENTLY has a 98% matching rate with him.

Honestly I don't completely blame my man for being sus as MC really did kinda have hidden intentions albeit for the greater good.

So ML confronts MC about his suspicions and MC in a fit of panic confesses to ML to lower ML's guard and give himself a legitimate reason why a random stranger like MC would risk his life to save ML.

As a result, in the next few chapters every action he has to take must not contradict the mental image he has set up, unless he wants ML gets suspicious.

So despite his mind thinking of cursing or taking advantage of ML as a form of revenge he cannot act too OOC, thus explains some of the last minute changes in his actions.

Also I must point out that MC has to make ML get closer to him and actually work to improve their relationship cuz their life's literally depend on it.

CUZ like MC life or death is basically binded to ML thanks to the instructions of that book and MC has already died in one life he doesn't want to die in vain in another.

Now onto MC and his feelings for ML:

Honestly yes I agree with the reviewer above that his actions are contradictory, and I do believe that deep down MC does care a little about ML.

But I must remind the reviewer that MC and ML in the original timeline had a very complicated relationship and it is heavily implied that MC has likely done something (whether by his own will or not) that betrayed ML and as a result ML stabbed MC in a fit of rage.

Of course MC is not going to feel positive feelings towards the person who has harmed him and in the previous timeline actively hunt him down.

I honestly believe that some of MC rants and frustration directed at ML were genuine but I also believe that perhaps there is also some guilt or regret that MC has towards ML and how their relationship ended up like the way it was.

Anyways other than that this story has quite a few mysteries such as what happened between MC and ML in the past, MC's origins, the research centre and the cult that had captured MC previously.

Honestly I hope my review helped clear any doubts people might have had about this story and hope you give this one a try.

Thank you for taking your time to read this :) <<less

Guiding Experiment subject no. 109, (literally read "Baekgu") gets a second chance at life to save the guy who lived with him under an alias in the past life. He pretends to be some other guy that disappeared during a dungeon break, and becomes the perfect guide to ML, who finds him incredibly suspicious but just like in the past life, cannot help but warm up to him because he's a truly softhearted guy.

But as MC begins to grow closer he realises that not everything in his past life... more>> is quite what it seemed, and he is increasingly regretful of the lies he told to quickly secure the initial mission of saving ML. If a liar tells you they have always lied to you, what is the truth?

Incredible plot and developed romance line between the main pair but also well fleshed out side characters. It is regrettable that the ending was rushed in the last 4 chapters but I'm not too disappointed because there will definitely be side stories for the epilogue. If you enjoy Guideverse with mystery and plenty of angst this is for you. <<less

It's okay I guess? MC is strong and that's that. But if there's one of thing I hate the most in any stories... Is when an MC's inner monologue and actions don't match up at all. Because it's making it look like the MC could not control his body at all.

Of course this story is about the MC lying about his identity, keeping silent about his capabilities and lying about liking ML but hates him actually. That's why it would be understandable that it's not matching up at all. But... more>> after reading this story, I can tell that MC actually has a crush on ML in their past life and this is probably a case of a protagonist who fell in love first. ML might have fallen first in the past, but that's the past and ML don't remember it so obviously it's the MC who's the only one who has a crush now, not ML.

Now my problem with actions and monologue not matching up. Is when MC thinks that "I'm just doing this until the world is saved" "I don't care if you live or die after you destroy the catastrophic gate" "It's not just you who hates this marriage. You think I wanted to marry you too?" Or things like that but then suddenly does things that makes it seem like HE WANTED this marriage and is actually the most proactive in their relationship. The one who's begging for attention and the one who cares the most about the ML's well-being. Honestly if that's not a person in denial of his feelings then I don't know what is.

I can see it but MC don't, and his monologues are different from what's supposed to be the truth and that's my issue with HIM. Like why don't you just admit that you love him, have a monologue that you're gonna give up anyway and shit. Not say, "I hate this man" but then kiss him the next day.

It's just like those MCs who says they don't want to get involve with the novel story they're now in, but then ends up befriending the ML themselves, getting jealous of the OMC, or have the ML in their minds all day everyday like a girl in love but still say they don't want to get involve.

Like, stop lying! I can see it but you don't... but please STOP CARING! If you don't want to get involve, prove it with your actions not just the mind! Stop being a beggar of someone else's love you desperate man!

Ugh, but this is a Liar Paradox, it's about lying... so anyways that's that.

Edit: I read the other review and I just want to say that, you're right.

I already know this story is gonna be complicated especially when even the MC lies to himself. I don't really know what reviews does and I just love writing them whenever some emotions are felt during the reading.

I'm very narrow-minded and I just wanted to see MCs act what they were thinking. If the MC says he won't do this thing, I would really love it if he won't do it. So sometimes it's hard for me to read love stories whenever the MC says they want to move on but in the end could not move on. It's frustrating and its complicated. Most good stories are like that, I'm just not the type to handle them because obviously they're frustrating for me.

Dunno how stars work but for me 3 stars are in between: I can like it but won't see to the end or don't like it but will see till the end. For me this story is the latter. It's complicated so I hate it, it boils my blood but I'll see it till the end to end this hatred I have.

4 stars are likable, I want to read it again BUT I'm scared of it getting worst or get boring in the future so it's a one star minus.

5 stars are just the best, even if it gets boring at the end I'll still probably thinks of them fondly everytime I see them.

2 stars are great idea, but written disappointedly. Or the story is just not good but I don't want to judge it too harshly.

1 star are just nonsense. It shouldn't have been written in the first place. <<less
