Since the description doesn't offer much, here's a brief summary:

MC is really down on his luck. Scammed out of his money, kicked out by his now ex, having an ugly scarred face, he's pretty much homeless and penniless. And then some lawyer comes to him telling that his aunt (great aunt? It's been a while since I read the first few chapters) left him a small house on the outskirts of the town.

Oh, but it's not a regular town. Some portals have been opened between our dimension and some others,... more>> from which monsters come out. Of course, some humans evolved ("awakened"), and the higher their level, the better they can fight against this menace. And the worlds beyond said portals offer magical materials and whatnot. And there's a system or something. Nothing really groundbreaking - you can pretty much imagine how it goes if you've read other novels like this. The outskirts of the town are, of course, far more dangerous than the affluent center.

Back to MC, he also has a terminal condition. He has a mana seed on his brain, which will grow in a few months unless supressed - and you can guess how that would go. So, not wanting to be homeless for the last of his life, he accepts the inheritance. After some trouble getting there, the house offered him a condition: inheriting a gate - a portal to one of those parallel worlds. Since it comes with some perks - including the possibility of buying a mana seed supressor -, he decides there's nothing to lose, and accepts the condition.

Now it get's a bit spoilerish:

Spoiler

MC passes the test, awakens, fixes his face and body, and learns more about the gate and the dimension he inherited. From then on, it's pretty much a family and world building novel, with some fighting here and there.

[collapse]

It's not bad, but I'd hardly call it great. It's OK, entertaining if you like the world building novel segment. However, there's really not many frustrations for MC - the deus ex machina is quite generous with him -, so it gets a bit boring. <<less
