[Double Male Leads + Entertainment Industry Dating Variety Show + Revenge/Face-Slapping s*um + Power Couple] [Vengeful High-Profile Shou VS Yandere Villain Deeply Affectionate Gong]

It wasn’t until he was struck on the head by a falling chandelier that Lin Huaizhi realized he was a character in a dual-male-lead novel. Specifically, he was the vicious supporting male character who doubled as a sycophant for the main Gong (Top).

The main Gong is an A-list celebrity. The main Shou (Bottom) is an eighteenth-tier nobody.

The story dictates that the main Gong and Shou join a romance variety show and fall in love. However, he—this wretched dog of a supporting character—refused to accept it and began to scheme. Yet, the harder he tried to interfere, the more inseparable the two protagonists became, until they eventually walked hand-in-hand into a blissful life.

Lin Huaizhi: “?”

What kind of tr*sh is worth him degrading himself like that? If they won’t let him sit at the table to eat, then they shouldn’t blame him for flipping the table over.

Lin Huaizhi first severed all of the main Gong’s resources. As for the main Shou… he decided to pry away his strongest backer and turn that deeply affectionate villain named Huo Chen into his own conquest.

Huo Chen. The late-born son of the Huo family. He acts with the speed of thunder and the force of wind, employing ruthless methods. Despite taking over the Huo family only five years ago, he developed it into the top prominent family in Long City.

Yet this favored son of heaven—worth tens of billions of dollars, admired by everyone in Long City, and rarely seen in public—unexpectedly appeared on a romance-themed variety show one day.

On the show, a noble young man boldly confessed to him and launched a passionate pursuit.

The villain, his heart stirred for the first time, gripped the young man by the neck, his narrow eyes filled with madness and paranoia.

“Me or death. Choose one.”

I don't know the author's family dynamics, but they obviously have beef against their parents. Probably for being nothing more than demanding, Asian parents. Whole generations of Chinese Americans are exposed to this and get over it, but this author can't wait to drive home how damaging and traumatic being raised by demanding parents can be. They say responsible parents are few and far between, when they should really say that perfect people are few and far between. I seriously doubt there is a scarcity of loving parents, but rather... more>> a prevalence of people who make mistakes when trying to do their best by their children. And there's also some Freudian psycho-nonsense the author decides to inject, blaming every possible trauma or personality issue on parenting, as if a person was just an manifestation of parenting disasters. This is after the author has already created a perfect example of a person who is able to overcome their background (the Mc).

I'm baffled and disturbed how difficult it apparently is for people to empathize with their parents nowadays. They manage to identify their own trauma, without trying to understand the traumas their parents lived through. I'm sure the author would argue that those types of people shouldn't have children, but why should people be caged by their past? Why not strive to improve, move on, and build a more promising life for your children?

There's also pretty nationalistic bit, with the deep dive into Nanjing Massacre. There was some bit about how important it is to understand the sacrifices made for peace, especially consideration "the war going on now", though I struggle to understand what war China has any interest in right now that is disrupting their peace.

Finally, the story is just a bit hyperbolic in general. The original ML keeps presenting himself up for face slapping. The same ignorant side characters keep acting obnoxious and privileged. None of this feels like something that real people would do, but I guess the point is that this is all in a story. <<less

First of all, thank you so much to the translator bee_zeebee for such an amazing and flawless translation. The translation is complete (on the time of writing this review, nu only shows up to ch 116, not the whole ch. Translator also combined final two chapters into one.)

I love this story. It's short, to the point, a bit non sensible, a bit tragic, a bit silly. Some parts made me cry, some makes me laugh and some parts made me genuinely want to bash my head

especially the self delusional villain chu. The audacity of this guy and his self granduer made his ending all the more satisfying.

Though Fo's ending is quite casual, I suppose brealing of "true love" is also a sort of punishment on itself

[collapse]

More than everyone and the revenge plot or anything, its just worth reading it for the cp. Warning tho
Spoiler

the MC does act in a non concenual manner towards the ML at the start - forced kissing and making advances even after being rejected. It is addressed in the story, but just an fyi

most actions follow a logicl thread or have some sort of reasoning. And while some side characters and cp seem random at times, they are super fun to read about and make the story richer.

As the summary warns, both MC and ML are morally gray characters and thus should not be viewed in conventional light. The story does a wonderful job explaining their past and how it shaped them as they are now. Meeting each other is truly the best thing for both of them.

There are no extras, which kinda makes sense but is also a bit disappointing as the story has to end. But its all right, and the author has done a really good job making a mostly plot holes less story. <<less
