On a rainy night, Ihyun secretly leaves the seaside town where he had been living since he became a high school student.

In Seoul, Ihyun starts helping out at the gallery ‘Phantom,’ where he encounters the world of Golden Alphas and Golden Omegas, a world he never thought would be connected to him.

Lau Wiqun, the blue-eyed Golden Alpha who is rumored to use pheromones to bewitch people into buying paintings, draws a clear line with Ihyun, who is practically an outsider. Normally, Ihyun wouldn’t care about that boundary, but this time it bothers him. He even feels a bit hurt by Lau Wiqun’s attitude, which feels strange to him.

Yet, just when he seems completely indifferent, Lau Wiqun is suddenly there, hovering around, exploring the area as if he’s searching for something.

“About that, are you really not an Omega?”

Lau Wiqun, known for being better than any genetic analysis at identifying Omegas, constantly questions Ihyun’s identity.

“Your scent… It’s quite unusual.”

“You like my scent, don’t you?”

I really want to give 100 stars to this novel, because the story is very interesting.

Mr. Qun is a typical CEO in wattpad stories, he is a walking green flag, very gentle and caring.

It all started with Mr. Qun is curious about Lee Hyun's gender identity, a Beta but has pheromones that attract him, until his curiosity turns into love, until his passionate feeling of wanting to belong turns into wanting to be Lee Hyun's Alpha. Until his carelessness began.

this will be a big spoiler

Spoiler

Actually, this is common among omegavers and I often encounter it, where most Uke-betas will turn into Omega.

Mr. Qun is a golden Alpha who apparently can turn beta into omega, perhaps out of curiosity/lust/love, without Lee Hyun realizing it, he who lived his life as a beta eventually became an Omega.

because I read the novel only relying on google translate, there were many things I didn't understand, but it could be that from the start Lee Hyun was already a special omega called (Diamond dust) whose pheromones could only be felt by Golden Alpha. (I could have misunderstood the translation)

Mr. Qun knew that Lee Hyun was slowly turning into an omega but didn't have the courage to admit it for fear of being abandoned by Lee Hyun.

Mr Qun always delayed his chance to confess until finally Lee Hyun found out about his gender change from someone else.

As a reader, I was a bit annoyed with Lau Weiqun about this problem, even though from the beginning their interaction communicated very smoothly, Lee Hyun also has very high sensitivity, he is my favorite character in all the Korean BL novels I have ever read, his way of thinking made me very interested in his character. But I also understand why Mr. Qun can't admit his mistake directly. because I myself am sure Lee Hyun will still be hurt and disappointed.

1-5 volumes are very gentle, it makes me also want to feel the love of someone like Lau Weiqun, I always look forward to how their sweet story will continue, and it is really worth the time and money spent. I really love this novel. the anxiety that Mr Qun felt was very real.

"Don't hide anything from me. I want everything. Even the dark, shabby, uncool parts of you. If we're going to start over... we have to embrace each other with that determination." (Lee Hyun)

This was revealed when they made up and got back together after being separated for a year.

Not a literaty critique but I love anything BL so I'm just sharing my thoughts.

This story delved into more than just than typical Omegaverse. The author really explored family dynamics and the effect this has on any gender, which I found so so refreshing yet deep. Rather than just purely focusing on the main characters' relationship itself, a few side characters were introduced to show just how much they also shaped the main characters to the present day.

To some, the story is dragging because it really delved into so much... more>> detail about the other side characters' personal life, but that can be fixed with skillfully skimming through (if you wanted to).

Overall, the author is so artistic, how they really focused on 'nature vs nurture' and that itched my brain the right way. This novel gives a more realistic feel, like it could happen in your typical everyday life... perhaps in another universe. LOL.

Anyway, it also made me happy that the author is one of those that did not solely focused on the smut and the disgusting feats that come in Omegaverse. This author not only is ravagely philosophical but a green flag at that.
Spoiler

Maybe the only red flag... well, I guess the author did touch on whether the unconsentual Changing of the uke from Beta to Omega would be comparable to r*pe, but I guess in a way it was mutual on both sides because the uke did ask for the knot almost all of the time (though unaware of its end result). But then this is where we must separate fiction from real life ;)

[collapse]

Speaking of smut, their sexy scenes are spicy, so I'm looking forward to how the manhwa portrayed the desperation the two main characters have for each other.

Read if you have time! I finished it over the weekend, it's do-able! <<less

WOW. This was an amazing read.

I have read a ton of Omegaverse where the Alpha ... more>>

like this one, but this is the first time that the moral implications of such actions were described in detail. Especially when it was done without consent. I'm so happy about this because every time I read this type of omegaverse I just feel icky due to it getting brushed off and then they just live happily ever after. I like the author's approach.

I also like the fact that there's a

manifestation support group in this novel. That's the first time I saw that!

MC's thought process is so intriguing. He thinks about things so much and is really observant but he's not an overthinker. He's calm and a bit emotionally detached but he's not a pushover. I liked how he immediately

ML. Whoooo Ml. Despite what he did, I definitely like him! Something about his anxiety, lies and love just feels so real to me. He knows what he did was wrong but he's so scared to let go and

kept delaying confessing that he was changing the MC's secondary gender.

I felt for him even if I considered what he did a crime. The way he panicked when he was talking to his friend and when he kept rushing everything. Oh boy I was just yelling at him to confess because I can see he is aware that there is no way out of this. You can feel his anxiety even with other's POV. He's definitely not a green flag but not quite the red flag either.

I love this novel and I hope the manhwa give's it justice! <<less

I've finished all six volumes of Diamond Dust, including the side stories and extras, and I can honestly say this series left a strong impression on me.

One of the things I loved most was the moments when the ML shared his true thoughts with ... more>>

In-woo.

[collapse]
Those scenes were genuinely mind-blowing, so unexpected, yet they revealed so much about his inner thoughts and made his character feel painfully real.

I've read many omegaverse stories, but Diamond Dust truly stands out. The worldbuilding is incredible, especially how the novel addresses the consequences of pheromones. I loved that healing wasn't about

forgetting what happened, but about accepting that pheromones can make them different people, and that things might have been different without them.

[collapse]

The ML's constant fear of

makes it especially heartbreaking that his greatest fear actually came true, yet that same fear ultimately became the source of his greatest happiness.

I loved all the characters in this novel. I was so happy the MC

and chose to walk his own path. I'm a little sad that In-woo didn't find a partner; I was low-key shipping him with Jugan from Phantom.

It was also devastating how the MC had to
Spoiler

say goodbye to his closest friends due to unavoidable circumstances, but I liked that the ML visited them often over the years, and that the main couple was even prepared to move to Bali just to be close to them.

[collapse]

Another detail I really loved was the MC's relationship with Morea. He was actually closer to her than to his beta friend, even though the beta is family to him. I especially loved how Morea always planned for the three of them to run away together; leaving the MC behind was never an option.

There are a lot of smut scenes, but they're not unnecessary. They're important to the story and integral to the plot.

I'm usually not a fan of

time skips, but in this case, I was glad it happened. Given everything the characters went through, the time skip

felt necessary and well handled.

Overall, the series explores powerful themes of silence and alienation, and it does so in a way that feels unique. Diamond Dust is an unforgettable omegaverse story that stayed with me long after I finished reading. <<less

Why does this have a low rating? It's one of the best Omegaverse novels. I binged read this for a week. This delves into more than just dynamics, but also life's choices, struggles, their guilt, and their passion.

This is a slow burn, and the romance flowed naturally.

I like our MC, he's inherently an introvert but have such a strong will. He's one of the best MC's, he's strong, with conviction, knows what he wants, not a pushover, but also gentle and kind. His introspective thoughts gives realization to his character.

Also,... more>> every description is wonderfully depicted, from their thoughts to their feelings, to the art perspective. I found myself checking every art mentioned and seeing what their thoughts on them. (Bonus: it's great that the manhwa has the art paintings for visual perspective)

Spoiler

I could understand why the ML did what he did : turning MC into an Omega without his knowledge. This stems from a lifetime of regrets, fear, and anxiety. It's hard to hate him since you could feel what he's going through.

When our MC found out about the changing happening, they decided to part ways. This lasts for about a year.

It's hard reading this because your heart hurts for them. But I like that they allowed themselves space for them to reflect on everything, whether it was genuine feelings or pheromones, or whether it is right to forgive. ML especially had time to reflect on his actions. This has no chasing arc, our ML respected MC choice on being away and he just watched from afar without any interference. It's enough for him to just see MC, even a glimpse, and he's willing to fly every weekend to Paris for this. Reading this part really hurts. You could feel the longing, and the hurt, and his wish for our MC to just be happy.

There is no mention of breaking up, they just need time. The time away from each other allowed themselves to heal. Seeing them get back together soothed all my heartaches from them.

I'm glad that they reach the happy ending that they deserve.

Cons: I had hoped the author has included the gallery showcase of our MC. This was just briefly mentioned that he was preparing for his exhibit.

Also, there is no side story featuring the rest of the side characters. Seeing how you care for each of them with their journey with the couple, I hoped to have their endings as well.

Went straight to the novel after reading the manhwa adaption.

What I like about this novel:

    • The Omegaverse setting is very interesting. Here, Alpha & Omega were treated like a monster in rural areas, a mere gimmick in higher society. One who needs medication to control themselves, the "sick" one in a world designed for the majority "normal" Beta. This environment gives struggle to every character in the novel
    • MC surprised me. My impression based on manwha was that he's plain and weak. Contrary to that, his thought were much more colorful and even this appearance were the results of his past trauma.
    • There was an age-gap of 10 years between the MC and ML. Though MC were naive, he was somewhat realistic enough to know what to do. While the ML were the experienced one, the novel show even he made mistakes
    • Throughout the whole novel, there was this attraction between MC and ML that goes beyond their common sense. They can't help but be attracted to each other. How this attraction changes them, make them become what they never thought to become (good or bad) is what makes this novel interesting.
    • I liked how we were given the ML POV, to see what was he truly think about the MC, his cautiousness at the start, his suffering, guilt, and self blame because of his mistake.
    • The novel theme (i think) is about self discovery, self worth, fighting your trauma and how to live your life in your own way :)
I give this novel 5 stars for Yihyun & Kun, for their love, their suffering, their forgiveness, resolve, and sacrifice to be with each other despite everything

Even though this is an omegaverse romance with a rich older man and inexperienced younger man (and hot smut), it manages to rise above the tropes by doing the following:

  1. Places you in the world of art in a realistic way, that is, it's not done as an accessory, these people live through art. The world of art is not over glamorized, but you feel that they really love art, and through their artistic sensibilities you gain a perspective into each of characters.
  2. Places you into the locales. The characters travel quite widely and yet the author does a good job of creating the atmosphere of each of the cities they visit. The narrow studios of Paris, the beaches of Bali, the alleys in HongKong, they all lend their atmosphere to the story. Really loved how many museums are mentioned in the story.
  3. The characters feel real and three dimensional. The side characters are not just throwaway, they all have their own stories and ways of feeling and thinking. The main pair are mature people. They're people who get overwhelmed, make mistakes, have trauma from their past, but they deal with it in a mature way. The way Yihyun dealt with the betrayal felt so much sadder because you could really feel his confusion as well as the love that's still there.
  4. Makes you ship them. The relationship builds in a natural way that feels true to their personalities and what they have gone through in the past. Even though many of the coincidences around them make them feel destined, it still makes you believe in their romance. Many times, too many coincidences makes it feel artificial, this one is well balanced.
  5. There are a lot of s*x scenes, but each one builds on the relationship as well as the characters.

This was indeed really, really good. Its pace is quite slow. There is a lot of detail to situation, which allows us to really feel it all. I agree with the reviewer saying MC is the best character in Korean Bl. He is, he is so level headed and wise, but also gets angry and wants to hurt who ever hurts him, but he is inherently a great person; one wants him to be his best self. I loved all the art world and the sensitivity both characters have for... more>> the described art. All the characters become relevant and fully fleshed. This is Omegaverse in its best. When the first episode of the webtoon came out and I discovered it was based on a novel, I immediately ran to Ridi and bought every volume. I ended up finishing the entire story in just three days.

The plot is quite refreshing compared to typical Omegaverse world. The author introduces new concepts within the universe, which keeps the story interesting and makes you want to keep reading to understand more about how everything works. Besides the romance, the story also explores the world of art, which adds depth to the... more>> narrative.

The MC, Ihyun, is introverted and shy but not spineless, which I appreciated. Lau, the male lead, starts off very mysterious and intriguing, although later I personally found him becoming a bit... dull.

Overall I would still recommend this novel. It’s very well written, the spicy scenes are excellent, and it’s a mature and enjoyable read.

My only criticism is the pacing in the middle, which felt a bit slow at times and made me skim a few sections. I also wish the author had spent less time on the slower parts and more time showing their
Spoiler

domestic life at the end. The side stories finally show them getting married and Ihyun discovering he’s pregnant, but it ends so quickly that it felt like a bit of a cliffhanger.

[collapse]

For readers who might be confused about the “new” Omegaverse elements mentioned earlier:

Spoiler

The male lead Lau is a Ghost Alpha. Ghost Alphas have the ability to perform what is called “changing” (similar to knotting), which can transform Betas into Omegas.

The main character Ihyun turns out to be a DD — “Diamond Dust.” Ghost Alphas are the only ones who can smell the pheromones of a Diamond Dust, and they are essentially powerless against them.

Because of this, Lau cannot resist repeatedly “changing” Ihyun. Their pairing is extremely rare, which becomes the core conflict of the story: Lau keeps changing Ihyun while delaying the truth, since even Ihyun himself doesn’t know that he is a Diamond Dust.

This eventually leads into the chasing arc, but I won’t spoil the rest.

[collapse]

Despite my earlier comment about Lau becoming a bit dull, I do think he’s ultimately a green flag male lead. He supports Ihyun and cares for him deeply throughout the story. <<less

The novel is good, the character development and complexities of the story makes it hard to hate the ML despite his actions. Though saying that this was one of the first novels to make me feel ill and like throwing up reading about the MC finding out and feeling so betrayed.

There is also a really long section of trying to solve things and regret which dragged on but it's fine they needed that so that the ending feels justified.

I think it's a wonderful novel that has emotional depth about life, struggles and how one face it. It's nice how each character has their own struggle and it's not superficial. It felt like the characters are actual living people with their own struggle and how they navigate their life through it. How each of them face the consequences of their action and how they still shine despite the challenge they face. I could say that the MC learn a lot from this characters. For people who came looking for... more>> romance only, it might not be their cup of tea since it's a bit of a slow burn where both MC and ML take times to understand their emotion.
