Lee Su-hyeon is judged to be a Dual Awakened, even rarer than S-class Awakened, possessing both Esper and Guide abilities. However, due to his low rank, he’s quickly overlooked by the public. Living quietly like a background extra, one day an unimaginable, dream-like opportunity comes his way. His guiding compatibility rate with Song Ji-hyeok, a newly recruited S-class Esper at the guild, turns out to be over 80 percent.

But life isn’t so simple. Song Ji-hyeok openly ignores Su-hyeon due to his low rank…

“Let me say this again, I have absolutely no intention of pairing up with you. So stop wasting your energy like this.”

His expression was emotionless and calm. If he had sneered or acted arrogant, it might have sparked some defiance, but his matter-of-fact delivery made the impact even greater.

After maintaining silence for a moment, Su-hyeon barely moved his lips.

“But you heard what Manager Park said. The higher the matching rate, the more efficient the guiding…”

“I said I don’t want to.”

The sharp interjection made Su-hyeon’s mouth shut automatically. Song Ji-hyeok let out a sigh and stared directly into his eyes again.

“You look like you don’t understand, so I’ll be frank. To me, a guide partner’s rank is far more important than matching rate. Honestly, how dare a C-rank try to match with an S-rank? Have some self-awareness.”

“……”

“I’ll fulfill the period the manager mentioned, but that’s it. Persuasion won’t work, so you should give up.”

It was perfect defense. He had somewhat expected this, but if the rejection was truly because of rank, there was nothing he could do about it.

‘…Nothing. There’s nothing.’

But still! He couldn’t just quietly let go of this opportunity that had come his way. Throwing away unnecessary discouragements, he looked at Song Ji-hyeok with eyes full of determination.

“Since I’m your junior by both experience and age, I’ll speak casually. While I can’t change my innate rank, I’ll do my absolute best. I’ll make sure you won’t be satisfied with anyone’s guiding but mine, so be prepared.”

Despite the bold declaration of war, the guy wasn’t intimidated. Instead, he just sneered as if Su-hyeon wasn’t even worth dealing with.

This book is extremely average. There are a few interesting ideas and the s*x scenes aren’t bad but I didn’t find the majority of the plot very engaging. A lot of the worldbuilding feels very nonsensical to me (the infrastructure of espers seems way too developed for only being fifteen years old) and the biggest (if maybe silliest) point of confusion for me is still how Guide ranking works in this world. Matching rate is more important than rank but then what does rank signify... ? It doesn’t seem to... more>> signify anything, since there’s in universe differences between A-rank Guides too. So the plot points around ranks fall pretty flat.

My biggest frustration character wise is that the MC literally never is honest/open about anything. He never tells the ML his feelings about anything, and while it sometimes makes sense, other times I was like,

I actually really liked the final plot and resolution, and I think if the book had been structured around the experimentation and differences for Dual Awakened vs normal espers, the story would’ve been a lot more engaging. The ML’s cousin felt like an obvious character to use for this, I kept expecting him to come up. A couple other things I wish were explained further: why a side character has severe guiding reactions to the ML (it feels like there should’ve been a reason since her rank and matching rate were both pretty good), the fact that the MC had guiding side effects only in dungeons at first seemed like it could’ve been a plot point that characters at least recognized (it had to do with the final resolution but I feel like these smart doctors could’ve at least mentioned it...). Also I’m surprised the MC’s sister’s health wasn’t actually very important overall to the story aside from being a reason he needed more money. There was just a lot that the author could’ve used to tell a more engaging story and it’s a shame they didn’t. <<less

I'm not going to finish this story. I love the start. I loved how the MC is determined to be a guide even though people are unconfident in his abilities. The problem I have is how the guide is treated? They can do physical guiding with anyone? And the MC seem to be trained to be okay with that. Maybe I'm just close minded, but their contract is for 1 year and they are already doing coupling? So, yup... not for me. The story would have been great if they... more>> didn't do the coupling until the characters fall in love or something... yup.. old minded me... bye.. <<less

This story was pretty unique in the realm fast paced, angsty Guideverse stories full of SA and red flag MLs. It was more like a slice of life Guideverse story. The MC was upbeat and a positive thinker until the end. He didn’t get pushed around and had a realistic view of his position. The ML was a bit snarky and sharp tongued, but it was obvious he cared for the MC as the story went on. It was a sweet little romance of a guide and an esper. They... more>> go out to eat and chat as coworkers, their guiding goes beyond hand holding very quickly, they eventually cohabitate, and slowly come to care greatly for each other. There’s very little drama and many of the difficulties they face are overcome in talking to each other. Overall, I was very satisfied with the story. If you’re looking for the usual pathetic guide who’s forcibly taken advantage of by a crazy and cold esper, this is not the story for you. But, if you’ve always wanted to just see sweet little romance develop between a guide and their esper and see their day to day lives, this is the story for you. <<less

If you like something light and quick to read, this novel might do it.

There’s not a lot of drama, and things get solved quite fast. I really like that there is some communication between the MC and ML. And also, no red flags! So glad to find a novel with decent ML!

It’s a story mostly on a first POV (MC), and things get heated up quite quickly I would say. There is no r*pe luckily, which is kind of rare in a guideverse story. One thing to take in consideration

I know it’s a guideverse universe, but it was kind of weird the way the MC described the job as a guide. They were taught that kissing and s*x or other s*xual activities were totally normal for guiding. Which, to be honest for me, was a bit weird to conceptualize such a thing. But all the intimated scenes between the MC and ML are consensual, so at least there’s that.

I quite enjoy the story and there were also some part that made me tear up a bit. It is VERY fast paste, things happen and are finished, and some stuff don’t get a definitive conclusion, though it doesn’t bother the entirety of the story. <<less

This story was about in the middle of the pack for me in terms of Guideverse stories—somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars? It was a nice and quick read to kill time for 2-3 days in between other hobbies and work.

There were a lot of aspects of this story I liked, mainly pertaining to the character and world building. Seeing the author’s spin on making the MC, Lee Su-hyeon, a dual-awakened was interesting. Though his position as the ML, Song Ji-hyeok’s, guide was the focal point for the story, Lee... more>> Su-hyeon’s experience up until their match mainly acting as an Esper and obsessively analyzing dungeon raid reports wasn’t at all lost. Watching him utilize every resource at his disposal to perform above C-grade expectations on the field added a layer of tenacity to his character that I appreciated. It also just made for a good plot device to circle back in the latter half of the story for resolving the larger conflict of him

gradually experiencing guiding side effects to the point of dropping in rank

lol. Although on that note, I definitely do think that resolution was just a little too conveniently timed within the storyline and ultimately rushed.

The main reason I rated this only 3 (or really, 3.5) stars was because the story didn’t make that strong of an impression on me. Though the main character and parts of guiding mechanics were done well, I think the author fell short when it came to developing Song Ji-hyeok and his romance with Lee Su-hyeon. They told us the ML’s family backstory and gave a glimpse at his terrible relationship with his brother, but never actually gave us a meaningful interaction between the two. Instead, we got introduced to a character tied to his brother who was used as a convenient way to

who was then abruptly cast aside at the end of the story with just a brief mention.

When skimming back on the story, there’s definitely a steady development in romance and how the main characters interact with each other and grow more comfortable with one another. That said, I think the feeling/sense of them actually bonding was a bit eclipsed by plot development and guiding smut. The story could have benefitted from replacing some of the heated moments with more emotional connection. I didn’t feel convinced their romance stemmed from liking each other and enjoying the other’s company, so much as being intertwined as Esper and Guide and living in close proximity. It took me actively skimming back chapters to confirm whether or not they were steadily developing feelings for one another, which is crazy to have to double check the signs of in a romance novel. <<less

This one is kind of rare in Guideverse. An S rank Esper paired with Dual-Awakened Esper/Guide. I love a story where the older guide is equally badass; by no means he was a burden for the team or to his younger esper.

The drawback was at the near end tho, but I guess the author really have no idea about how to close the loose ties. The rest are ok. I like the ML's personality, tempered by going through a lot.

It's quite short, perfect for weekend read.
