My partner was in the bedroom, completely shedding the restraint and reserve they’d always shown before, and letting themselves go entirely. Over and over, they kept saying:

“Baby… It’s okay if I’m just a substitute. As long as you don’t leave me.”

Ling Yushu: ????? Have you even listened to what you’re saying?

And as it turned out, that night was only the beginning.

The nights that followed were dazzling, filled with endless new things, and every day Ling Yushu found himself stepping into a whole new world. Before long, he finally understood what was going on: his partner had split into seven distinct personalities—and some of them weren’t even human anymore.

Every single one of these seven personalities was absolutely convinced that Ling Yushu held a great, unshakable love for his “one true beloved” (meaning the original, combined version of them all), and that they themselves were nothing more than humble replacements.

From that day on, a chaotic, dramatic battlefield played out every single day.

Personality One is a famous movie star—elegant, charming, but with a rather wicked streak. “It’s me, baby. When I act like him, you can’t even tell the difference, can you?”

Personality Two is a young imperial prince from ancient times—harmless as can be, with the sweetest smile. “Big brother… If he can have you, why can’t I?” Oh, and this one wants to move into the Forbidden City. Yeah… that part is definitely not going to happen.

Personality Three is the original vampire ancestor. He pinned Ling Yushu down inside a coffin, his dangerous fangs pressing right against the curve of his neck. “My sacrifice… remember that everything you are belongs to me.”

Personality Four is an Alpha—cold, aloof, and restrained on the surface, yet burning with deep, bitter love in his eyes. “You cut off your own gland?! Do you love him that much?!”

Personality Five is a war god from the stars—a mature, older man with a gentle smile. “It’s normal for young people to want to play around. Once you’ve had your fun, come home with your uncle.” And by “home,” he means flying the entire Earth away, back to their place hundreds of billions of light-years away.

Personality Six is a merman. He swishes his breathtakingly beautiful tail back and forth, looking at him with hopeful, pleading eyes. “I brought you all these seafood… so just choose me, okay? And… bear my little fish babies, will you?”

Personality Seven is a patient who escaped from a psychiatric hospital—and he hasn’t taken his medication in ages. “So I’m just a substitute? Wow, that’s amazing, Yushu! I’ve never been a replacement before… honestly, I’m kind of getting excited just thinking about it!”

It didn’t take long before the seven personalities became aware of each other’s existence. What started as Ling Yushu “heartlessly using substitutes” quickly escalated to him effectively juggling seven different lovers at once.

They argued, they got jealous, they fought, and they competed fiercely for his attention—literally wanting to kill each other off to be the only one left.

Driven to his wits’ end, Ling Yushu could only hope that his original partner—the one with all seven personalities combined—would hurry and come back.

But hearing this, the various personalities thought: Hmph… So I really am just a substitute after all. He’s still longing for him like that… I guess I just haven’t done enough for him yet.

Ling Yushu: That’s enough! I said that’s ENOUGH!

……

Ling Yushu: LET IT ALL JUST BURN AND CRUMBLE!!

Later on, though, he came to understand the truth: no matter the time, the place, or the form they take… they will always fall in love with him. And they will love him, forever and always.
