Cheng Zhanxi ran away from her wedding.

On her first day in Sicheng, she fell in love at first sight with a woman. Her studio was soon filled with paintings of her.

Their second encounter was at a bar, where the woman took the initiative to invite her to spend the night together.

Cheng Zhanxi: “Miss, I’m a decent person.”

Yu Qingtang turned and walked away without a word.

Cheng Zhanxi: “…Wait, please!”

After a night of passion, Yu Qingtang vanished without a trace.

Upon learning that the woman was a high school math teacher at Sicheng No. 1 High School, Cheng Zhanxi joined the school as a physical education teacher.

“Ms. Yu, would you like to watch a movie with me tonight?”

“Too busy.”

“Then should I give my class tomorrow to the English teacher?”

“What time tonight?”

Later, Cheng Zhanxi went to apologize to her fiancée, whom she had never met before. Arriving at the agreed-upon restaurant, she found her girlfriend, Yu Qingtang—the same woman she had parted with at her doorstep that morning—sitting across the table.

Yu Qingtang’s gaze was playful, almost teasing.

“Ms. Cheng, what a coincidence.”

“…”

??? Did I just cuckold myself?

The girlfriend I worked so hard to chase turned out to be the fiancée I ran away from.

Cheng Zhanxi, the person in question: Right now, all I feel is regret. Deep, deep regret.

『The tides are destined to surge for the moon, just as I am destined to fall for you.』

Hello there! Translator here.

This is only the second time I'm writing a review, so pardon my messy ramblings.

I don't really know how to structure a review, so I'll start with the basics. This is a preliminary review as I still haven't completed reading the story. I usually don't formulate opinions until I've completed a series, but I've only seen a single review so far, hence I decided to share my thoughts on why I started reading this novel and why I picked it up.

I got into this series simply because... more>> the synopsis was to my interest and it was from the same author as one of my favorite novels, Fangsi. As I continued reading, I discovered that this story is much more than just what the synopsis dictates it to be. Romance is almost a secondary factor within the narrative and the main focus of the plot is on the daily lives of our protagonists as they navigate through different aspects of being a teacher. So, for people who're looking for quick romance, I suggest you lower your expectations a bit.

Spoiler

As far as I know, the actual confession happens around chapter 95, which is a long way ahead considering that the chapters are all double the length of what other novels have.

[collapse]

Now onto the basic summary of the story we follow our protagonist, Cheng Zhanxi, as she falls in love with a beautiful woman at first sight after running away from an arranged marriage. After three coincidental encounters with the same woman, she is determined to chase after the beauty and joins the school where she's working as a P.E. Teacher. Cheng Zhanxi's behavior may seem ridiculous and somewhat problematic IRL, but the author has managed to handle it quite well. Cheng Zhanxi knows clear boundaries between people, is charismatic, cheerful, and patient. The story basically revolves around the interaction between the protagonists and how Cheng Zhanxi slowly helps Yu Qingtang recover from her emotional scars.

Spoiler

There's also the childhood trope involved which is an important part of the story, so I've marked it as spoiler just in case.

[collapse]

The female lead, Yu Qingtang, is a somewhat cold, quiet, and reserved person due to her childhood and an unfortunate upbringing. She also has prosopagnosia (Face Blindness) which makes it difficult for her to form emotional bonds. She's also distant, so it takes a lot of effort and time just to open up a bit towards Cheng Zhanxi. She's like a curious child learning about companionship and happiness through Cheng Zhanxi.

The romance is a slow burn with much of it being just Cheng Zhanxi trying to close the distance and Yu Qingtang slowly opening up. The story also focuses on what being a teacher entails, how students view their teachers, building a connection among the teachers and students, handling conflicts, etc. The story also excels in building the characters of both protagonists and making them feel human rather than just feeling like fictional characters.

Ultimately, despite its slow pace and lack of an overarching plot, the story keeps you engaged without making the readers feel bored. Both the leads are properly fleshed out with side characters also having personalities. If you enjoy reading a slice of life with slow but steady romance, I definitely recommend giving it a read. <<less

I really love this story so far. It's a slow burn so if you don't have much patience, then for god's sake, don't rate it low just because of that!

The setting is a high school and it involves two beautiful teachers; one chasing the other... emphasis on the chasing. The one being chased has a condition where she can't retain information pertaining to peoples' names or facial features and this in turn leads to quite a few dramas. On the surface, she seems very cool and unaffected, never really reciprocating... more>> any affections but we all know that's not gonna last. ha ha It's been many moons since I've been in school but one of the situations they find themselves in made me shed some tears. *embarrassed* I guess you gotta be able to relate to really feel the story. Anyway.

It has funny and cute moments, highly emotional at times, too. The writer is really very good. I can't be 100% sure if it's MTL and if it is, it's pretty dang good. Welp, I really suck at giving reviews but in short, it's a romantic story.

Just a note to the translator: thanks for your hard work! I really appreciate it. Don't heed those low (er) ratings. I'm sure there are many who are enjoying this story and don't think to rate and/or give reviews. Good job! *thumbs up* :-) <<less

10/10 MC who runs away from meeting their arranged marriage partner ends up falling in love with FL after conincidental encounters... who turned out to be her marriage partner. Teacher x teacher. Slow burn romance with a satisfying ending.

A fated encounter that ends up changing the lives of both MC and FL. FL who is a small buried flower bud blooming into a beautiful rose with patient and unmoving love from MC.

Relationship between MC and FL is explored through the life of a teacher. They navigate the complexities and conflict... more>> between teacher-parent/ parent-student/ teacher-student/ student-student relationships together whilst understanding their own relationship. Love of various forms is used to develop characters personalities, facilitate character growth to be a better person.

I really like how emotionally secure MC is portrayed. She is aware of the privilege and love she has received, allowing her the opportunity to see situations from the outside. I enjoyed how MC is portrayed so gentle and patient in standing by FL as she works through her deep insecurities herself.

The best side characters all with happy endings. <<less

Entirely too much filler. If the main story was closer in pace/excitement to the main extra, even halfway there, it would have easily been a 4-5 star rating. Instead this dragged on for so long that it took me weeks to push myself through a novel I normally would have finished in a couple days. It gets better in terms of pacing and plot the further into the story it gets, but the prerequisite is that you can get through the first half. My issue isn't the slow burn aspect,... more>> I can enjoy a good one. The problem is that a large portion of the content was completely irrelevant and just padded the word count. You know how many paragraphs were just about the details of whatever food was being made? Replacing filler with moments of ambiguity or sweetness, etc, would have kept the slow burn feeling exciting and refreshing instead of monotonous <<less

I'm also not good with words or know how to write a review but I just finished the main story and I ran here after seeing the rec list (thank you translator! I'm going to be lurking there for a really long time hehe)

I go into most novels I read blindly so I didn't notice it was slow burn and I'm not really a fan BUT words cannot express how much I love this novel (I couldn't hold back on commenting most times so if you see me fooling... more>> around please ignore 😭)

At a point you had to admire Cheng Zhanxi's perseverance in her wife chasing journey and staying through to her love, you get to see the beauty of it towards the end. I can't really compound on what makes a good story but the eventual blooming of a flower fairy, Cheng Zhanxi's really good relations with her friends and them coming through for her, her family's dynamic (except you were a born demon anybody could thrive growing up in that kind of environment), their job as teachers and the impact they've made in the student's lives... All that good stuff, I get easily satisfied so there's nothing more I could ask for.

Once again thank you translator!! 🙌🙌 <<less
