X was a serial killer who selected only vicious criminals to mu*der.

One day, X, the perfectionist who skillfully evades the authorities, kidnapped Seo Sooyoung—the younger sibling of a criminal—by mistake, thinking he was the culprit.

Feeling fear and anxiety for the first time over this unprecedented mistake, X postponed deciding Seo Sooyoung’s fate and ended up living with him.

“Sooyoung-ah. You’re the first snake to offer me a flower instead of poison.”

Was it from that moment?

Nightmares began turning into sweet dreams, and the relentless anxiety and fear started to settle.

To X, Seo Sooyoung was no longer just an ordinary, pitiable human.

He was his salvation, he was his repose.

“Sometimes I just don’t understand you.”

“That’s okay. Even if we don’t understand each other, we’re still together, aren’t we?”

The novel deeply explores inconsistency - the Regulation of reality we have. X and Sooyoung are the individuals we get to know and I got a very close taste of what it is like to be either of them. The writing was very impressive to me because of that - empathy came naturally and as such the novel offered an unique experience to completely delve into it. To be honest I expected a tragic ending and thought at some point, it would be perfectly fine to end it there, so... more>> I wasn't prepared for the actual end. But of course my human heart beat and relished in front of this taken approach.

I'll call The Circumstances of M*rderer X easily my favorit. Such an amazing read, beautiful, really so so beautiful. It's art. In my eyes art is beautiful because there is no hypocrisy.

Also,

I don't see it as stockholm syndrome.

They encountered each other as honest humans. Bare and freed of any restrictions. Only two souls. Both of them. Each of them great. Recognizing each others greatness and being equals. And as such they were pure and what they had was pure.

Not in the eye of society, not for people.

And neither should it.

but naked, as beings, as existence, Sooyoung and X shine so very overwhelmingly brightly - can't you see it.

Humanity is tragic because it can't see, can't feel, can't rise. Only functioning. It is only a system. Humanity. To humans it is dirty, it is unappetizing.

Humanity is tragic because it can only function by a kind of collective understanding - a norm.

The Great Eye being fed to The Countless Smalls. It's natural, it's needed, it just is, but it is ugly. Very so. To humans.

In general it makes humans rare, so rare you can't even imagine them being there, can't see worth, can't know nothing - their wings invisible to the blind Great Eye.

Unknown pain within this pit of ignorance.

Sooyoung and X

are but beautiful. They unite in great meaning.

Their not-understanding of each other fills me with great joy because it makes it all the more just.

And yet the blind Great Eye claims colours.

Convicting. Always... Steadily... Annoyingly so.

It is neither just nor important. Not to a human.

And I can't but keep laughing at humanity, ridicule humanity.

A pureheartidly laugh, still and even in the face of anxiety - of me having to wear the colours dictated.

They are heavy...

the wings ~

The human often broken, but never the wings for they just can't be broken.

And reading fiction I keep asking myself,

will there ever be a moment in life for me to feel pure? feel meaning?

Covering the blind Great Eye with the heavy wings of mine, even for a moment?

It could only be beautiful. Only art.

In my wide open and burdened eyes.

Author,

I see, I feel. <<less

The ML is a mu*derer. No excuse. Simply a mu*derer.

He kidnapped the MC because he thought MC was the tr*shy brother who did s*x trafficking underage women, due to the brothers similarity (because ofc they are brothers). ML only killed horrible criminals and he always live-streamed his killing. But ever since the mistake he did with MC, he kinda stopped doing the live stream.

ML clearly knew he doesn't deserve a redeem and he repeatedly told MC that he shouldn't start pitying or trying to understand what he did. But MC... more>> couldn't help but to find ML sometimes much better than people outside. And he hated himself for thinking like that. The whole story is kinda revolving around MC's inner conflict as he tried not to like ML because it's completely wrong to like a mu*derer.

My opinion on this story, tbh, it's not my favorite type of story. If I must say, sometimes I completely can't understand ML's way of thinking or even MC. However, I thought that was just because we are completely different people.

Still, I found it's quite interesting to read. There's a poetic undertone throughout the whole story. And while, yeah, you can say it's Stockholm Syndrome, I thought the whole story idea probably inspired by the original incident of the Stockholm Syndrome but different POV.

Like it's not just simply the victim empathizing with the criminal, maybe it's also the fault of the system and incompetence of the police to fail to rescue the victim and also the society to make the victim feel miserable outside that being by a mu*derer's side feels much like a home. <<less
