The MC is selfless but not pathetic, and compared to other scheming QT protags, he's honestly a breath of fresh air. It's more focused on the (unfortunately, mostly tragic) love between the MC and ML than revenge, but I'm a sucker for heroic sacrifices so I found it delicious.

The setting of some of the arcs were not really my taste, but it was still pretty easy to read through them because of how you see the perspectives of several characters. <<less

There's some light drama, but it mostly serves as background conflict and doesn't really affect the relationship between the MC and ML. The first third of the story leading up to the MC and ML meeting is a little slow, but the chapters are pretty short so it’s not difficult to get through. The character interactions are hilarious and the charm of the story. The gaming aspects are explained pretty clearly, though it’s not necessary to understand for the story. <<less

I was hesitating to read this because I read Rebirth of a Supermodel a while back and while I finished all 230+ chapters, I actually thought it got kinda terrible after 100 or so chapters. I didn’t go into this novel having high expectations (just wanted to eat some face slapping), but I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. 

If you didn’t like Rebirth of a Supermodel because of it’s unrealistic elements and xenophobia, Superstar Aspirations is LEAGUES better in almost every element. There’s very little revenge plots and MC doesn’t come across an extremely malicious enemy every other chapter for the sake of drama (there’s probably like 3-4 named people who try to go against him, and unlike in Rebirth, the punch back doesn’t go nuclear). The story does get a little slow at some points, but it flows really well and doesn’t rely on forced antagonism to push the plot. 

TBH, MC is actually kind of forgettable and bland (he’s not a terrible character, though, and I like him a lot more than I liked the MC of Rebirth), but ML is an absolute GIFT. I love him so much; he’s so friggin cute and his fangirl alter ego was one of my absolute favorite parts of the novel. He’s got a terrible case of face paralysis outside of acting, and he’s super conscious about his relationship (he actually holds back from the papapa because he wanted to wait until MC was older so he wouldn’t hurt him.. MC ends up having to seduce him into it, lol.) I just love him a lot...

The movie/drama plot lines are actually pretty interesting—normally I don’t like it when showbiz novels go into depth about the plots of the films the characters act in, but the ones written in this novel have a lot more depth than I’d expect. There’s definitely a few I’d go and watch if it were real. Also cried bc of some of them. Don’t @ me
