This is a phenomenal story full of political intrigue, sexy scenes, rebirth (of several people!) and harem intrigue. It has lots of harem issues, infighting between women who were sadly born at a time that wasn't favourable to women. Entitled men and their schemes, etc. All in all, a great read despite some flaws here and there.

MC is an ordinary lady who due to being born beautiful and voluptous - it causes her downfall. She is schemed by her younger sister-in-law to be r*ped and finds herself as a nanny in a Prince's home for his daughter. Actually MC was reborn. In her last life after being a nanny she was pitted against and used in schemes leading to her death so in this life she just wants to avoid death and go home to her son and raise him up. She is a simple naive woman who due to her dullness was used and killed. So this lifetime, she still isn't that smart but is better at looking behind the scenes and reading the inbetween of the things people tell/give to her. I find that refreshing that she doesn't actually have a golden finger and is merely bumbling her way through a second life by doing what she thinks will save her. Its a great read.

ML is obviously the Prince who is entitled, possesive and really scheming. Well, he is a Prince after the throne after all and is raised in a situation of knives and lies. So I get that his character is as such. I like how he solves problems lmao. I also like how he pampers her. <<less

First of all: This is not a romance novel. I repeat NOT A ROMANCE novel. This is a novel about SURVIVAL. Our MC is a woman from the modern world who transmigrates to ancient China as one of the Emperor’s concubine. She thinks its due to karmic retribution and thus knows that life in the harem will be hard. She treats it as a job. After all as a concubine she still gets “pay” aka her monthly allowance and servants, food and a beautiful place to stay plus s*x with a handsome man aka the Emperor who she calls the Boss in her mind. 

She doesn’t just want to blend into the background as our MC is a tough lady who hates to be bullied. She simply wants to be one of those at the top so as to not be bullied and then live peacefully. (Or as peaceful as it can get in a harem.) That is the entire story, about how she rises from one of the lower ranks, acts like a lady in love with the Emperor till she obtains a large portion of his thoughts and heart. 

I wouldn’t say the Emperor falls in love with her but he does think of her a lot. I am pretty satisfied with that.If you enjoy face-slapping moments, a shameless MC who knows when to act, how to act and her genius schemes, this is the book for you. She does not openly harms other concubines but she does retaliate if they harm her or scheme against her. She does not pretend to be a white lotus. She is merely firm in her pretend love with the Emperor (others think she is so in love that they pity her).

What a fun read.

This is a very complex novel. I enjoyed reading it and parts of it will always linger in my mind. Thoroughly enjoyed it despite it not being a typical romance story. Don’t expect it to be a fluffy story. Its more on schemes and manipulations with flawed characters coming to a compromise with one another.

Basic premise is our FL is from the modern world who reads a novel about a main wife who becomes a concubine as the husband as found a new love and discards her. FL thinks the husband is tr*sh and that the novel is tr*sh. She is then "transmigrated" into the abandoned wife. As this novel is set in Ancient China, it is the norm for the husband to have many wives, so please note this. It is a common feature in many novels set in the past. 

Anyway, FL doesn't quite like this scum husband who sleeps around a lot but she needs to fulfill the wish of the woman she transmigrated to in order to return to her world. And she thinks the wish of the woman "Nie Sangyu" is to obtain the love of her husband. So despite her hating him in her heart, she will attempt to be good to him in her own way. But she doesn't really actively pursue it, which is why this isn't really a romance. 

And yes, the ML is the scum husband. So if you hate the thought of that, stop reading. The ML is very flawed, only because he is born in an era who needs him to be ruthless. He is after all the marquis and entangled with the politics related to ascension to be the Emperor and he wants to retain his power. Love is really low on the list of priorities for him. So do expect him to callously treat the women around him as pawns, before he actually has "real" feelings for FL. He himself does not know if that is "love" but he eventually realizes that she is more important than some of his schemes. (Not always but he does compromise his plans for her). 

So basically it's a story that involves alot of scheming and backstabbing and survival. FL goes through A LOT. This novel has arcs- harem fighting, survival arc, and the final realization arc. I loved every part of it despite some parts I did not like.  <<less

I love this! This is a light-hearted read about how an Emperor falls in love with an initially unfavoured concubine (who is secretly a transmigrator from the future) with minimal harem drama. 

Our FL is a soft-spoken, sweet girl who had a very lonely past. Her family passed away quite early leaving her alone and she has always struggled on her own. So when she transmigrated to a character whom she knows passes the time quietly like a salted fish, she thinks its quite good! She's very happy about it. However, somehow she attracts the Emperor's attention. 

The Emperor doesn't sleep with her at the start, he just likes being around her because her presence mysteriously cures his persistent headaches. And so, as he spends more time with her, they both gradually fall in love with each other. Its really very sweet. Some say the Emperor is childish but I think his personality is adorable. It's a mix of being tsundere and also a kuudere. FL is soft and sweet. Not too dumb. Just very straight-forward. 

Nice story. Just don't expect any deep harem intrigue or politics. This is a light-hearted read.  <<less

So she's not as upset to be in this ancient times. 

She seems to be from a modern world which has mythical beasts of all sorts. Her uncle who lived in ancient times always raved about the food in that period, so our FL who is a natural foodie (taotie's are known to be gluttons who swallow enemies/world), is busy cooking her way into the ML's heart. Her natural cheerful demeanor and straightforward personality also worms its way into the ML's heart. 

There aren't much faceslapping involved mostly because FL is not the type of person who holds grudges but there are some people who often want to make the FL miserable. The ML helps solves the issues quite naturally. To be honest I felt like the political intrigue was rather boring. Read it for the fluff. <<less

The story has several parts: first, the cute and funny times when ML was a dog, the schemes to overthrow the Emperor, ML simpering for the FL, and some drama to strengthen the bond between the ML and FL. It does focus on the relationship between the ML and FL so the scheming for the throne does end pretty quickly with little fanfare.  <<less

This novel could've been better but falls a little flat. It's about a FL who had visions of a bad future and she decides not to fight for ML's favour anymore. However it backfires, and her honesty and rebellious self attracts the ML instead. The bad future is prevented unintentionally by her actions. There is a huge cast of characters and they all have their sideplots to further the story. A lot about harem politics + throne ascension politics. My official rating is about 3.5.  I only added it in this list because I did like reading about the various children by the ML who are adorable.  <<less

It’s a novel that is very comedic especially between the FL and ML with a fun cast of characters. 2nd ML is creepy though. A good read for the comedy and romantic tension. <<less

It was a very well-written intrigue novel with a LOT of scheming involved. It's mostly a political intrigue novel with throne ascension as the main focus and the romance as a sidenote. Throughout the battle for the throne, the womenfolk played an important roles. A lot of couples were used as emphasis and comparisons in the novel in other to make different POVs and points.

I liked the various points the author tried to make, of the womenfolk being ruthless in different ways when slighted, and the things one must do for survival. However, this novel also has a lot of "read between the lines" moments especially between the FL and ML. Whenever they talk, I feel like I have to focus 101% of every word said just to understand the hidden meaning underneath.

Up to the very end, despite all the scheming, I never could guess 100% all of the undertakings by the ML.

Anyway, it's a good read but one that you must read when clear-headed otherwise you'll just get a headache from trying to interpret all this flowery hidden meanings.

I did find it boring though haha. Because it's all not fully explained in the end which is the part I liked about intrigues. <<less

The kids in this story also make this a super lovely story to read. The ML is so doting towards his wife and cares for his kids so well. It's a sort-of slice-of-life with more than meets the eye.
