I had no intention of finishing it LOL just wanted to take a look and add it to my lists. For those who haven't read it yet, the premise of the novel is as follows:The MC (Xiao Lou) gets into an accident and ends up in the Card World where players have to constantly struggle to survive. The setup is a bit complicated, but basically, each player is tested for their deductive reasoning, logical thinking, survival abilities, and well, their luck stat LOL or ability to make money. It starts off as a single player survival game, but as the instances grow more and more difficult, finding reliable teammates is a must. Fortunately, the MC teams up with the the police officer ML (Yu Hanjiang) very early on. They knew other in reality and discover that their tacit agreement is quite high. Together, they challenge all the different instances and create a strong team capable of leaving the card world.This is a really well written novel! It's also completely translated (it wasn't when I first read it T.T) so there's no worries there. The characters are great, though this is definitely more plot-driven than character driven. The romance is also a subplot rather than the main focus. Sometimes, things get a bit mind-numbing with all the details, but the author does a great job keeping things engaging. Altogether, it's a highly recommended work! Definitely worth my initial rating of 4.8/5. <<less

4.7/5!!! [Transmigration, Western Fantasy, Mystery/Suspence] OOOF, I didn't know anything about this novel at first and thought it was completed. I didn't realize that it was a part of the series and only considered it the first book of a trilogy XD. REGARDLESS, it's a really good read for those who love worldbuilding. The author is really intense about it. So much so that a lot of the novel is comprised of lengthy analyses of all the different elements that make up the universe that it created. I liked the novel a lot because of this aspect, but I understand that some people may not feel the same because it can get a bit boring... more>> at times. AHH, anyway, let's move on to the rest of the review, starting with ...

Summary: The novel starts off like your typical transmigration novel. The MC is your typical, ordinary man that ended up mysteriously traveling through time and space, only to occupy another person's body. The person in question is called, Klein Moretti, and the MC takes on his identity from then on, as well as the burden that came with it. This burden comes in the form of the original owner's mysterious death and the equally mysterious foggy realm that connects him with other people across this new world. It should be noted that this world is kind of steampunk in style, with lots of western fantasy elements. More specifically, here, there are ordinary people and then there are people who have mystical powers that can be said to have been inherited from the Gods. By ingesting a corresponding potion sequence, one can gain great strength. BUT, it comes at the cost of risking one's sanity.

Altogether, it's a very complex world with great characters and a wonderfully rich setting. Worth reading for both of these things! Though, it's definitely not your typical read. The novel definitely has its shortcomings, and I feel really complicated about the end of Book 1. It was definitely a bit rushed and I became more and more disinterred of the MC as a character (let's just say that it's very hard to sympathize with his experience). HOWEVER, knowing that this is not the end, I'm feeling pretty optimistic about the novel regardless. I won't be writing a full review because I don't think this novel can be rated based on my usual criteria. BUT, according to personal enjoyment, I think this novel deserves a 5 star rating. 4.7/5!!! [Time Travel, Rebirth, Zombie Apocalypse, Fantasy (Western)] UPDATE: 11/27/2022) I decided to reread! Last time I read up to 185, but this time I... more>> read it all the way till the end. The reason I gave up last time was because I read horrible MTL and I was really shocked about where the novel was going lmao. It starts off as a zombie apocalypse novel, but it's not really about surviving against the apocalypse. At first it's all about psychology. The MC (Qi Jingchen) had been tortured and left to die as the last person on earth in his previous lifewhere there seemed to be no hope of the earth ever improving. As such, when he came to, all way back to the first day of the apocalypse, he decides to just ignore it all and die early. His psychology is not great, but fortunately! He has the ML to back him up. The ML was the person he was closest to in his last life, and after dying before the MC, his greatest regret was they never got together. So now that he has this chance, he ain't giving up~ALL IN ALL, it's quite deep. Some may say dark, but it's actually not as depressing as it seems, and the characters grow, so by the end of things, it feels very lighthearted. Of course, as I mentioned, don't expect this to be a simple apocalypse novel! There's a lot more to it~ I was against the twists at first, but I think the author handled it well altogether. I even wanted more at the end T.T so many characters were forgotten *sigh*For this read, my opinion of the novel jumped quite a bit! I give it a 4.70/5 for being able to make me read till the end for my second reread (it was initially 4.5/5 — which is probably more suitable, but I gave it plus points for being reread-able). IN SHORT — Well worth the five out of five stars! (Though, if you want to read MTL, I recommend plugging the raw into Google translate, that's the only way it becomes remotely readable). <<less

4.65/5!!! [Second Chance, Apocalypse: Natural Disasters, Mature, Slice of Life] Very different from a lot of the CN Apocalypse Novels out there, but I ended up liking it a lot! Admittedly, it gets a bit boring sometimes. The author has a tendency to dump information, making me tempted to drop the novel several times. BUT, I'm glad I persisted until the end (EXTRAS included, even!) I'm the type of reader that enjoys details, and there's no denying that this author is really good at delivering that. Furthermore, the survival aspect in this novel is really entertaining. The MC and ML have a space, so one can say that they're a bit passive (the cheat is... more>> used more of a convenience rather than tool, which makes the novel less thrilling than it could have been if the space never existed or if the space was revealed). However, looking at it from another perspective, the magical space and the rebirth aspect ensured that the story was not too dark. Without it, the story would have been incredibly tragic and sad. XD

__________SUMMARY: The MC, Mu Nan, lived over a year on an Earth suffering from severe natural disasters. Despite having a magical space for hoarding goods, his life during the apocalypse was not very good. And, because of his kind-heartedness, he even ended up getting stabbed, resulting in his life ending early. When he awakens two months before the first natural disaster official hit China, his first thought is to hoard goods and make contact with his non-biological older brother (the ML, Qin Huai), who had been separated from him five years before everything began due to family issues. When the two meet again, not long after the onslaught of the first natural disasters, they hold on tightly to each other and do their best to survive. 

_________THOUGHTS: As mentioned, this novel can be considered very tragic if the main characters did not have the magical space and rebirth cheats. It's not like the popular Zombie CN Apocalypse novels that are commonly seen in danmei -- where the MCs have special abilities and a direct enemy to fight against. After all, there's no real way of fighting against natural disasters -- no matter how prepared you are, accidents will happen, and there's the element of human nature as well. ANYWAY, despite this rather glum plot, the story is actually pretty lighthearted. You get to see the daily life of the two main characters, who are a bit more selfish than your usual protagonists (they share when necessary, but they keep their secrets hidden tightly till the end.) You also get to see them make friends along the way, some of whom will stay, others will leave.

The author, despite their tendency to info-dump everywhere xD, is pretty good at keeping things interesting. Even the most mundane things are pretty fascinating in my opinion (though that may be because I enjoy novels with survival, infrastructure-building, farming, hoarding, etc. LOL). I also like the fact that the author doesn't forget character development throughout all this. Authors who write in this genre tend to overfocus on the plot and forget about the characters. And, while the character plot here is nothing too impressive or complex, it's still pretty satisfying and realistic. At the very least, the author does a good job establing the characters -- enough that you can stay interested in their future indefinitely.

ALL in all, a good read! The TL is currently incomplete but the MTL is highly comprehensible -- even the names are uniquely good. The author's writing style is very straightforward, so despite the long text, everything is very readable (at least 85-90%).

4.5/5!!! [Zombie Apocalypse, Supernatural, Action, Adventure] (Update: 12/03/2022) Finally got a chance to reread! This time, I read it till the end after purchasing all the VIP novels from JJWXC and making an MTL copy (ooof that took me quite a while TxT). [FYI: For those who are wondering what changed between the original copy and the revised copy, most of the changes occurred in between chapters 110-180, I think. But, the changes were mostly cosmetic. Like, making the characters fit better and straightening out the worldbuilding and such to have a more coherent development. When it comes to the big things, not much has changed, but since the MTL of the original copy is... more>> a mess, I recommend reading the revised MTL!)

The premise of this novel is very similar to a lot of Zombie Apocalypse CN novels. The MC (Shen Shi'an) has a magical space artifact that enables him to cultivate prior to the apocalypse -- which multiplies his survivability after the zombie apocalypse officially hits. He's not the only one with powers, of course. This is the type were both humans and zombies slowly evolve to have supernatural powers, which causes great changes in the world's balance. The story is a lot more detailed than a lot of other similar novels though! Everything has a reason for existing, even the more whimsical magical space is given an explanation. As for the ML (Shen Xun), he's a mysterious being that comes barelling through the MC's life early on (before the apocalypse), and the two of them travel through a zombie infested landscape to start with, cultivating themselves and gathering allies along the way!

ALL in all, it's a great read! Honestly, if the author hadn't been so flaky -- revising the original copy so majorly after publishing T.T -- i think this could have been a lot more popular. The writing itself is great. The characters are well-developed and complex, the setting has a strong foundation and development, and the plot is exciting and satisfying. There's really nothing to complain about! THAT is, if the revision weren't so major. *big sigh*. Now that the major revisions are done though (the main text has finished and all that's left are the extras) hopefully more people will read the novel!

Anyway, as for my rating. It was originally 4 to 4.5 stars out of 5. Now I'm a little more certain. With the revised text, my rating is definitely above 4.5! If it was fully translated, it would be 4.75. But as for right now, since a majority of what I read is still in MTL, I can only stick to 4.5/5 for poor reading experience T.T <<less

4.45/5!!! [Fantasy, Infrastructure, Sci-Fi, Game Elements] This was not what I was expecting at all! I mean, to be fair, the summary is a bit... vague? Or just unclear, I guess LMAO. If I had to describe it shortly, it would be fantasy infrastructure! The protagonist, Xu Sili, is an singer who is terminally ill. He doesn't have long to live. And so, before his death, he decided to invest all of his property into the development of an advanced holographic game. In exchange, the game developers agreed to give him a new 'life' by making him an NPC. As for the ML! Just before the protagonist dies, he decides to make another request from... more>> the game developers. That is, that his favorite game character, Si Sheng, from a mobile card game app (where players raise card characters as the story progresses) is brought into the game with him.

The novel starts off a bit slow. The MC and ML are seemingly at opposite sides from the very beginning, but that doesn't last long. Though various misunderstandings and lack of communication causes much drama between the two and extends the romance development a bit - making a proper slow burn!

Ah, but back to the description: Fantasy Instructure. LOLOL. As the Emperor of this new game world, the MC has to prepare for many things. But, most importantly, it's the participation of the "Players" from the real world. He has to prep their beginner 'start village' planet into something that the Players will be hesitant to leave behind -- which prompts lots of infrastructure development!

I love that kind of thing, but I understand that there may be some people who don't agree and would prefer a faster, action-centric fantasy novel. There is a little bit of action here, but the story is still mostly focused on the infrastructure development! That being the case, I still recommend the novel for the setting and the worldbuilding! It's quite unique~ I'm currently working on a sci-fi original work with similar settings, so this proved to be very inspiring for me. For that reason, I may be a bit biased, but I consider this a fave!

IMPORTANT NOTE: The TL is incomplete but the MTL is approximately 75% readable. The names are a bit annoying (since their Western Names translated to Chinese and then translated back to English DX) but once you get the gist of them, the rest of the text is easy enough to understand. Usually, MTL makes me give up after 100-200 or so chapters, but I persisted to the end this time! <<less

[Transmigration, Slice of Life, Historical: Chinese Reformation Era, Poor-to-Rich, Childcare] This novel has an MC who woke up with a magic space one day remembering a dream where a little boy asked her for food. She prepares for the worst immediately, assuming that it was some kind of pre-apocalyptic warning. It turns out different though. She ends up transmigrating into a novel as a cannon fodder. More specifically, the canon fodder mother of the three villains of the novel. At the time she transmigrated, these villains were still young 5-3-1! The villain husband was also still in the army, although he was set to come back due to an injury. In any case, she... more>> has no choice butto keep moving forward. Which she handles pretty well!

This novel is very slow-paced and it’s all about life in 1960s China. Idk how accurate it is but the detail is great! Despite being a BG novel I never felt annoyed by her. She isn’t some Mary Sue. She does have a cheat but she uses it well and it doesn’t make her overly powerful, just rich LOLOL. As a poor-to-rich novel, it gets top marks from me. I only stopped reading cause the side-character family drama became a bit too boring and I felt that the main CP had already gotten their HEA. I’m content with what I’ve read already. And will definitely not hesitate to read it in the future.

RATING: 4.35/5This slice of novel is quite good~ Definitely a favorite for me (hence why I gave it a five star rating despite my actual rating not quite adding up to five). It was also the first novel I read about the Chinese Reformation Era, so I have good feels about it! Of course, it might not be for everyone. It’s especially slow paced and the ups and downs are based on family drama and such. That’s not to say that this novel is all about face-slapping like other similar novels. More about the effects of the era on the people at the time and how vastly different their lives are to our generation. <<less

4.2/5!!! [Transmigration, Slice of Life, Golden Finger] This is a slice-of-life novel with some fantasy elements (a golden finger and some mysticism) and strong poor-to-rich sentiments. These kinds of things just so happened to be just my type, so I ended up enjoying this both during my first read and during my second read (which is now! I left the old review at the end for reference).... more>>

SUMMARY: Yu Xiaocao woke up one day and found out that she had transmigrated into the body of a fisherman's daughter in ancient times. This little girl's father was extremely filial, and as a result, had been used and abused by his stepmother for most of his life, leading to a rather pitiful life for him and his branch of the family. Yu Xiaocao, the transmigrator, was the hardworking type who supported her family by working constantly in her previous life. So, even now, after ending up as an 8-year-old girl with no backing, she dares to dream of a better future for her current family. Fortunately for her, she transmigrated with a golden finger -- a divine stone that can produce water that can help ripen the growth of crops, increase intelligence in animals, promote better health, etc. -- which allows her to smoothly build a legendary life for herself, her family, and later, her husband (the ML, Zhu Junyang, who was plagued by inner demons since he was a child.)

THOUGHTS: To be perfectly honest, this novel has quite a few flaws. The author was a bit careless when it came to developing the worldbuilding settings at times, and there were constant inconsistencies (thankfully, the translators pointed most of them out, but there were even more that I noticed that just slipped the radar.) It also introduced so many events and so many characters that many were forgotten until the end -- while I understand that the reason for this is to increase the pacing and allow the story to keep moving forward, it's a shame at times when certain interesting concepts would be introduced and quickly forgotten -- it would be best if they just weren't mentioned in the first place LMFAO.

But, well, these many flaws aside, taking account of my own personal enjoyment. I still rate this novel quite highly. Last time I read this, I stopped at around the 500s. This time, I persisted and read till the end, but I agree with most reviewers that it got a bit boring and repetitive by that point. What I recommend you read this for are the characters and the satisfying self-indulgent plot development. Here, one can say that the FL is definitely super OP. However, because of her personality, she never comes off as a complete Mary Sue. There are hints, for sure, but for the most part, because the author did a great job building her character in the beginning, she ended up being rather likable -- which made it easy to enjoy the story as it went.

OH. BTW. If you're looking to read this for romance, I don't recommend it. Although I loved the bickering couple, it takes a while for them to get there (the age gap is quite large, and they don't marry till she's of legal age). So, it's best to start with the intention of enjoying the slice of life, poor-to-rich aspect first, and just enjoy the unique romance in the middle.

Although this rating should probably be lower (at least, if I based it on the quality of the writing itself), it wouldn't be too much lower. XD. I was even tempted to make it round up to 5 stars -- simply because I enjoyed it so much. But, ah, it's not meant to be. It kind of has the vibe of "I Have Medicine" and "Legendary Master's Wife" but mainly in that the characters constantly work their way up the cultivation ladder with golden fingers that shock the world. The unique aspect here is that the MC and ML start off in the human world -- Modern Day China -- where the resources couldn't be anymore baren. I think that the story was best during this arc but that could be because my comprehension dropped a bit after the TL was dropped.... more>>

The tone of the novel is very humorous, and you have a very snarky and narcissistic genius for an MC and a cold but warm-hearted ML. Things to get repetitive after a while (the pattern of making money and improving is very repetitive) but if you enjoy that kind of development and you're just looking for a casual read to spend time on, then this is definitely worth a try!

I didn't finish it mainly because of the MTL quality. As more and more terms and names are introduced, it got a bit difficult to understand T.T Arc 2 (cultivation-world) is still pretty understandable if you're used to MTL. However, Arc 3 (immortal-cultivation world) is not as good. I can only hope that another TL-er will pick up the novel one day ;-; <<less

[Transmigration, Xuanhuan, Cultivation, Weak-to-Strong] I was expecting this novel to be more ridiculous, especially with the cover and the fact that it’s a Flying Lines TL, but it ended up being not bad! The quality is perhaps not the best? But because of the strong comedic undertone, it manages to stand strong despite my low expectations LOLOL. This novel is an action adventure novel. The MC is a genius transmigrator who ended up in a futuristic cultivation world that is a lot lower in level than his previous world. The initial focus od the novel isn’t on getting stronger though. At first, it’s all about messy relationships!! Not just the MC and ML (Prince who... more>> ends up marrying the MC by complete accident lol) but also their friends (this novel has two main side ships!)

I recommend that you give it a try if you’re looking for something lighter in tone. Or if you enjoy weak-to-strong or poor-to-rich cultivation novels of a different taste. This one is set in the future, after all, so it’s not as traditional as your usual cultivation novel. Though, after a while, the sci-fi feels kind of slip away and there’s a focus on “strong eats the weak” mentality that all cultivation novels have.

As an extra note: the TL quality is pretty good! I was a bit skeptical about it at first, since it’s from Flying Lines. But it ended up being readable. I’m a bit too lazy to write a full review for this novel T.T and I feel like I already said everything, so im leaving it here! As for my rating... im giving it a 3.85/5. That’s four stars rounded up! Not bad all in all. The characters were pretty good, though they kind of lose their zest after a while. The romance was similar — exciting at first and then very dry later. I like the setting though, lots interesting worldbuilding! Plot was a bit iffy but not bad altogether. And overall, my personal enjoyment was rather high. Especially at first! I think I could have kept reading this, the only reason I stopped early was because something made me really anxious today, and I couldn’t bare to keep reading after a while T.T I’ll come back and reread one day tho! <<less

3.35/5!!! [Transmigration, Slice of Life, Farming, Cheat: Spiritual Spring, Historical: China - 1980s-1990s] (2nd Reread) I just wrote up a long-ass review and it got deleted DX. Oh well, what can you do. Let me just say that the first time I read this, I read the first 150 chapters and gave it a 3 star rating directly. My impression has not changed, even if I read it till the end this time (well, by the end, I mean reading up to c200s or so and skipping/skimming the rest). As for the rating, I decided to stick to 3 stars, but more specifically, 3.35/5! Not quite enough to level up to 4 stars, but it's... more>> still not a bad rating.

SUMMARY: This is not really a story of an FL and ML. The main protagonists are not the focus, but literally just getting rich in the eighties --- with a transmigrator from ancient times (the FL) and a hardworking retired soldier (the ML) as background characters to support the development. I initially thought the a transmigrator from ancient times was pretty interesting, but the FL's lack of ambition made her too passive as a character. She really didn't do much outside of fixing the relationships with the ML (who had been married to the original owner for three years prior to her transmigration) and her in-laws (who disliked the original owner because she was shrewish and selfish).

Afterwards, she was first an embroidery-making machine, then a chemical fertilizer provider XD (her cheat, the spiritual spring), and a baby boy maker (seriously, she was pregnant most of the time. It's the ML that did most of the work, but he doesn't play a part outside of that. So yeah, in short if you want character development, this is not the place to look for it! This is strictly for slice-of-life, pastoral-life, business management, etc.

THOUGHTS: I lost interest after a while because I wasn't really all that fond of the characters. In contrast, BTTS (back to the sixties), the author's other work, was a lot better rounded. I mean, At least there, there was development for the main characters in the beginning. The FL of that novel was also very active, always moving around. Unlike Su Danhong here, who maintains the virtues of an ancient woman very proudly. I mean, I don't dislike her, but it's definitely a bit boring.

As for other things, well, after a while, without the MC's propping up the story like they should, it devolved into one petty drama after another, and the poor-to-rich aspect became more and more meaningless. All of this sounds so negative btw XDDD. But, well, I think the story is still worth the read. If you're looking for something casual, and nothing too deep. This is not bad. At least, you can really experience the life of the people back then, even if it may not be the most realistic. <<less

But I've been running out of things to read recently XD and so I decided to give this is a shot. All in all? Not bad. At the very least, it kept me interested till the end. _________SUMMARY: A modern-day woman transmigrates into the concubine daughter of a country magistrate called Qiao Xuan. The original owner was unappreciated by her family, and had even been forced to marry a poor scholar from a rural village. The time she transmigrates happens to be on the night of the original owner's wedding. The original owner had hung herself, and after being 'saved', it was the FL who woke up. From then on, the FL began to live her life, prospering quietly, little by little. She has wood abilities to back her up, though she hides it very well, only using it when absolutely necessary. In time, not only will she and her husband make their way to the capital, but they'll also climb over the quarreling princes in the fight for the throne._________THOUGHTS: The story is quite wide-reaching. And this is why I ended up liking it. I've always loved epic-length stories that drag on and on LOLOL. Of course, I know that not everyone feels the same, and I didn't rate the novel highly because of it. Well, that and the novel's other flaws. For example, the story's main characters are actually rather under-utilized. They're ignored for the bigger picture, and there's not character development at all, just character conflicts and drama. The ML, specifically, felt like a cardboard cutout. The FL never really trusted him, she never told him about her abilities, which made me question his loyalty to her, time and time again. He's meant to be super smart, but he doesn't notice her actions at all?? (At some point, I came up with a conspiracy that he knew all along LMAO and that he just took advantage of it and never said anything. I mean, since she didn't trust him, why would he trust her in return in this regard??? Of course, I know that's not the case, the ML stated in his POV that he didn't know, but still, I had to resort to this kind of thinking to avoid disliking the FL too much LMFAO.)okay, BUT that rant aside. There are other places that the other suffers. Too many to really count right now. The golden finger wood abilities, for example, because the FL doesn't tell the ML, is so underutilized it feels pointless most of the time. It's just a convenient plot device to rush the pacing of the story. And oh, speaking of the pacing of the story, it's all over the place. I had to skip so many chapters where the same content is repeated again and again (I mean, to be fair, the chapters are pretty short. Each chapter is worth like 1/3rd of a regular chapter. So this story is actually not as long as you'd expect based on the chapter count.) But yeah.Anyway, I say all this to prepare you for the fact that: YES, this story is very flawed. Don't expect it to be anything like the stories you've read in the past. You'll only be disappointed. I went into the novel knowing this, and so I ended up reading till the end (low expectations naturally made me think more highly of the points I liked LMFAO). _________RATING: 3.25/5OVERALL, simply for the fact that I enjoyed it in my own way (the business management, poor-to-rich aspect, etc.) despite the rating is still 3/5 stars. [Transmigration, Adventure, Poor-to-Rich, Cultivation] Because the novel has not been finished TL-ing and the recent arc is boring in my eyes, I ended up dropping this pretty quickly T.T This novel is very close to another novel I read. Uh... I think it was called "Spiritual Plant Farmer" something something lolol. The MC is a transmigrator (and a rare Gong!MC). The original owner of the body is a veritable cultivation waste (with five spirit roots) and a cannon fodder who is destined to die under the hands of the original protagonist and heroine. In the process, he meets the ML and decides that he's the one for him. It's not really all that romantic, especially since they start off as 13yo (with the MC being mentally older -- which is creepy cause he proposes pretty early). I don't pay much attention to it, and was more focused on the external plot and worldbuilding. This is your typical "level-up" plot where the MC starts off in a low-grade area and slowly grows until he can make it to more energy-rich environments where he has more room to grow.

All in all, not a bad read. Though, if you're looking for a long epic cultivation novel like this, I recommend choosing "I have Medicine" and the "Legendary Master's Wife" instead. You can maybe come back to this after if you like the development of those novels and are desperate for more content hehe even if it's not quite the same quality.

The premise of the novel is very similar to your usual "MC-Transmigrates-into-Ancient-China-and-Makes-A-Lot of Money" story. He has a 'cool' background that enables him to make everything from jam, to wine, to improved steel, etc. with this, he makes a lot of money.Of course, just like any novel of this type, there are countless cannon fodder villains getting in the way (shrews, shameless family members, etc). And, in the process he creates a big family and falls in love. Though the romance is rather potiable. The development is awkward af. If I had to rate this novel (I'm not going to because I didn't even read half of it), I wouldn't give it a very high score. Barely 2-3 stars (maybe 2.5/5) at the highest. Even then, that's mainly because I enjoy poor-to-rich developments. If that's not your think, I think you wouldn't like this novel very much. <<less

Every single time, there’s drama happening. And well, usually that would be kind of fun—a good face-slapping is good every now and then—but the FL is like a dead fish, ya know? She’s super PASSIVE as a character. She just wants to sit back and relax. She was given all sorts of OP abilities but she does nothing with it but cause trouble trying to be a holy mother. If she was a little more involved in the drama, I might have cared about the developments past Ch. 400, but in the end, it just got increasingly more boring. It’s really too bad T.T The TL is REALLY good and it’s one of the most complete epic-novel translations available but Ahh... guess this novel just isn’t for me.

If you want to give this novel a shot, make sure you’re prepared for the drama! Prepare for a mix bag of... well, just a mixed bag of just about everything. The author seemed to have been a bit confused, throwing all sorts of things into the story like no one’s business LOLOL. As for the rating... since I did end up reading and enjoying it for quite a while — plus, the character complexity was there (just not properly utilized) I think the story deserves 3 stars. I can decide whether I want to give it less than 3 or just a little bit more. So tentative rating is 2.85-3.2 stars out of 5. Either way, it rounds up to three heh. <<less

It's really a great novel if you're interested in learning a little something something. Most of what happens in the story appears to be consistent with what happened at the time -- though, of course, the appearance of the MC with his golden finger (modern knowledge) shook things up after a while (and it did take a while, because the MC was really focused more on protecting his people at first and had no true ambition when it came to taking down the throne and becoming emperor). This novel mixes kingdom-building, infrastructure-building, political intrigue, and action. The romance is mostly a side thing, though it's great if you're looking for internal conflicts (the ML's development is really bitter-sweet to watch!! T.T) since the MC starts off as very straight. I wouldn't recommend this novel if you're not interested in history since there are a lot of chapters spent recounting history from the views of the people at the time. There's another novel very similar to this one when it comes to style. I think it was called... "Doing Charity in the Ming Dynasty??" only that one was more fast-paced. The two are similar because they're plot-driven. Though I prefer the "Royal Road" more because it spends more time on the MC and ML~ It's also a little bit slower paced -- which is good for someone like me who prefers long novels! If you're the opposite, you can check out the charity in the ming dynasty novel instead!For now, I won't be writing a full review because not even half was translated and I skimmed through most of the MTL-ed chapters I ended up reading. Of course, because I read mostly MTL, there's no telling how off my actual initial impression is. However, there's no doubt that I enjoyed the novel quite a bit, and I'm looking forward to rereading it in the future (hopefully with the TL further along QAQ).Summary: The MC (Wen Juanyan) is a fraudster that ended up being dragged into "Nightmare Live." Nightmare Live is a organization that captures souls from reality and forces them to survive through various inhumane, horror/survival instances for the sake of the audience's entertainment. As a fraudster, the MC stands out by beating everyone back with lies. However, it soon becomes very clear that fate is not very kind to him — not only is he being constantly dragged into doing the most extreme mission tasks, there's also a mysterious evil entity following him every step of the way ;)Things to watch out for! This is a slow romance, so don't expect any progress any time soon. The author teases a bit with some big moves right away, but in reality, all the MC wants is the ML death LOL And this goes on for a loooong time. This is also not a team-building kind of infinite flow project. The MC shines as an individual, and the people around him are often just tools to make certain things more convenient (although he does care more than he admits). I like that the author switches things up rather than constantly drawing on the "fraudster" trick. There's always something new and exciting within the instances, and each one is their own detailed world (like seriously, these instances can go on forever sometimes!).All in all, definitely worth the read! The MTL is also not bad if you plug the raw directly into GT. Though you will have to purchase the rights to all the available chapters to read the story without disruptions (the author puts up a lot of false chapters to prevent pirating.) I won't be giving it an official rating for now, because I most of what I read is in MTL XD and idk how long this text will actually be. But based on what I've read. This already a fave for me. I mean, a lot of unlimited flow novels have horror or suspense themes. And it might be a bit too hair-raising for the less brave (LIKE ME xD). With his novel, the horror themes are kept at a minimum (only the first arc truly had ghosts and the like, though there were also some instances that were a little creepy later.)... more>>

Summary: The MC (Xing Ye) discovered that his brother had died unnaturally. And, while he was investigating the cause of his death, he ended up being dragged into a separate space through a QR code. This separate space is a virtual game world (the person's consciousness is dragged in but their body stays outside and no time passes in between), and the task of all players is to find the true endings of all the different instances and make it to the Final Level. During the MC's very first instance, he meets a cute and mysterious Mirror (the ML) that he takes with him along the way.

When it comes to the characters, I think the author did the best! Not only is the cast varied, but they also all have their complexities without dragging down the plot. The romance is a little strange because one is considered a prop while the other is a player, but the author does it pretty well and builds the relationship slowly. As for the setting, I thought it was quite unique! Of course, there are a lot of similar unlimited flow novels out there, but there are several key elements in this one that I don't see often in other novels.

As always, because I read most of this novel through MTL (which is abut 70% readable -- it gets a bit miserable because the MC's strategic analysis doesn't translate all that well, but I bore through it T.T) I won't be giving this a full review despite having finished it. I will give it a star rating though! In my eyes, this novel will undoubtedly be worth 4.50-5 stars. After all, I read it all the way through despite the messy MTL. If you're interested, I suggest trying it out now! It's really only certain parts of the MTL that are not comprehensible. And, if you have a good enough understanding of the plot and instances, it's not too difficult to make sense of those parts. OH, btw. The first two or three chapters of this novel are really awkward. I think that the world is very detailed and there seemed to have been a lot of attention paid on setting it up properly, but I always feel like there are gaps. Summary: The novel starts like your typical infinite flow novel. The MC, Bai Lu, is dragged into a game world inexplicably and is forced into an instance where he has to solve puzzles, fight baddies, etc. in order to survive. The tone of the novel is very mature, but it's not completely dark. I mean, in most infinite flow novels, the situation seems to be hopeless for most people. But, here, players can directly watch others clear instances and make use of that knowledge to clear the instance themselves. Like this, we also get to see the reactions of the older players to Bai Lu's style of playing --- which is heavy on surprise tactics that seems to have been thought of as soon as he had entered the game.

I don't particularly mind that the MC is OP, but others might XD It's true that he's a bit too all-knowing. And that there doesn't seem to be much tension in the instance themselves. It's more like a playground that the MC casually strolls around on as he gets into conflict with other players and guilds. (I don't dislike this concept, to be honest. It means that you get to truly know the characters here, at least, but yeh, it's a bit weird.) The side characters, especially, don't feel like side-characters at all. The author gives each of them a complex background so that they can stand steadily throughout the story and not just fade away like in most other infinite flow novels (where the MC's team is just casually watching him clear instances lol.)

ANYWAY, I won't be doing a full review on this novel cause I didn't make it halfway. The untranslated half (after RM's translation) it was really not easy to read -- so I gave up mostly for this reason. My current impression though... well, how to say it? I think that it's interesting and worth taking a look into, but it's also a little bit of a bog sometimes. I'm not someone who likes action all that much, so I guess this makes sense. If that's more your style, you should enjoy this story more than I did. I won't be giving this novel a rating either because of the reason mentioned above! However, my preliminary rating would be around 3.75-4.25 stars out of five. Not bad all in all, a better than average read, at the very least! But, perhaps not my kind of story in the end. <<less
