The novel is silly but its undertones are actually pretty thoughtful and the romance is slow, cute, and funny. The characters are my favorite part of the book tbh. I think this is my new favorite. Not only is the story amazing and subverts typical tropes, but the translation is beautiful, and the characters are deeply fleshed out and flawed human beings. The novel doesn't spend time talking about how beautiful the FL is or how pale her skin is, instead we get to know her through her personality and through her thoughts and feelings. It starts off as a rom-com, but slowly becomes a novel about finding yourself, and if you're truly you if all you knew about yourself was false. This is a story of self-discovery, of self-forgiveness, and of love. Even the villainess is complex, and her motivations are sincere.
