Completed Fantasy Historical Slice of Life

COMPLETED - I honestly don't know what to rate this. It started pretty good, we have about 40 chapters of the MC and her sisters/mother suffering. Which is not my idea of fun, but it did a pretty good job of setting up the characters, their bond and the reason why they needed to leave. The good:

The beginning is great. We start with the MC being 11 years old. She remembers her previous life, so she has some knowledge, but she doesn't really have any golden finger. The beginning is infuriating, but it sets up the story nicely.

Then they are finally free and at the beginning is a nice slice of life story. The MC comes up with wealth building ideas, they succeed for a while, then she moves on to the next thing. The relationship between the sisters is heartwarming to see as they start gaining a foothold.

The ML is full of green flags. Fully supportive, respectful, and kind. The rest of the story is no stress whatsoever which can be its own kind of draw.

The bad:

Sadly the story becomes extremely monotonous since there is never any failure. The MC thinks up an idea, implements it, bam!, instant success. Rinse and repeat.

Another bad point is the romance. To be honest I would say there is no romance in this story, more of a mention in passing. The relationship is never developed, it just happened out of the blue. The ML is barely in the story for 90% of it. Whenever they have an argument, they never discuss what is wrong, they just give each other a look and with that all is understood and a smile ends the interaction. There is no development, or growth of the relationship.

The mother and the mother in law make no sense. The mother is a woman of her time, so at first all her choices are understood, but later it becomes extremally frustrating and nonsensical. I mean, how many times do you need to be beaten down in life before you understand a lesson? Why would you take the same path again and again when you know where it leads? It made no sense. As for the MIL, she MC laterally saved her family, goes above and beyond for them. She starts loving her like a daughter and can't say enough good things about her. Then their situation improves again and out of no where the MIL is talking to her husband saying how the MC might not have a good enough background to marry into her family, huh? It once again made no sense and was completely out of left field.

Lastly there is zero drama in this book, to the point of being detrimental to the story. The MC had opportunity deal with her evil family and with people that did her wrong, but she deals with them off page, in passing, in the most unsatisfying way possible. It honestly felt like the author didn't even want to deal, she just wanted to finish the story, so she tied up all the loose ends she had previously set up in the quickest way possible. Which makes the story boring.

This is why I am struggling to rate this story, the first half was good enough to hook me. I read it non-stop to the point I am finishing it without putting it down. I would say the first half is 4 stars. But the second half is boring and unsatisfying, I honestly finished it because I kept hoping it would go back to being good. I would say the second half is 2 stars, so I am going to average this to 3. <<less
