Unlike many CN novels, this one's drama does not involve dog-blood or face-slapping so it's a more mature read. The angst is very well written--it's not very heavy and doesn't involve scheming or interference from a 3rd party but it still hits hard. 

There's supposedly a happy ending but the translation hasn't been completed yet so I can't say much about the ending. <<less

Pretty similar to "Guide To Raising the Sick Villain" in terms of character set up (pure FML and I-hate-the-world ML) and general plot (young FML treats young ML kindly, ML falls in love first, disability/insecurity angst, HE) but I personally like this one better. Different from GTRSV, FML is sent back to the past (instead of transmigrating to a novel) with the knowledge that before her death ML had revealed that he secretly loved her in that life, but unlike most reborn to the past novels, FML's young body restricts her from having complete memory of her past life. Because of this, she treats ML differently but not with the intention of getting together with... more>> him. The romance develops almost as if FML's rebirth cheat didn't exist which is a nice change of scenery compared to most OP FMLs. 

ML stays disabled to the end (after all, it's hard to recover from severed limbs) and there is no miracle recovery like GTRSV. Speaking of which, there is a some muted thriller elements in the later part of the story so if you're uncomfortable with mentions of blood then this may not be for you. 

Bonus points also for the extra chapters. They were so heart-wrenching yet sweet.  <<less

A great fml-driven action story with the classic  system admin companion, political manipulations, interstellar and terrestrial battles, and good bros with one being a little more than just friends ;)

The relationship between the fml and ml was cute, with all the elements that I'm looking for in a classic romance novel (yandere ml, dense fml, love interest falls in love first, etc.) but at the same time does not overpower the plot at all, hence the absence of the romance tag in the first place. Another thing that's great is that the romance doesn't even start until like the 500th chapter and then continues to be a slow burn. <<less

To be honest, I thought of dropping this novel originally. It starts in a typical CN novel fashion which is not a bad thing per say but I felt that the mc was leveling up way too fast. That plus the harem aspects turned me off but it wasn't bad enough for me to drop so I persisted. And good thing I did because it only got better from there. 

There's still some harem aspects but it's not enough to take away from the story. The mc has also not actually responded to the girls (which in itself is kind of infuriating though) so it's not too distracting. 

The one thing that really impressed me was how I thought the novel would come to an end after the huge climax at the end of a major arc but it still continued on and in a way that didn't bore the readers. Right now, I'm at the point of the story where this new arc's setting has been hashed out and the mc is continuing his adventure. Translations are being regularly updated on the app "Novelfull" so I'm waiting for the chapters to accumulate. <<less

I normally don't care for compassionate fmls but Meng Qi has a special place in my part. She's the real straight forward type of medical cultivator who would heal others because the Dao in her heart can't bear to see anyone die in front of her. In her previous life, she had ended up saving many important and strong people but because she never stayed to receive recognition, all of her patients' good wills were taken by the "heroine of the world" which Meng Qi believes is because of the fml's golden halo. 

I also love how Meng Qi is not your typical op fml in a cultivation novel. In this world, pure cultivation and medical cultivation are different things. Every daoist cultivates their spirit alongside their chosen path, therefore, one can be at a higher level of their chosen path compared to their spirit cultivation, and vice versa. Meng Qi is the type with average spirit cultivating talent, but talent (and moreso passion) for the medical field. Her outward cultivation hardly exhibits any improvement and limits her healing/survival capacity which makes her a more balanced character in my eyes. Additionally, part of the reason why Meng Qi tries to heal everyone is because 1) the practice improves her cultivation and 2) she genuinely loves and is fascinated with learning and solving different ailments. The author does a great job of making this a consistent character trait of hers and not just a plot-moving point like many other cultivation novels with fml doctors. 

The romance in this is just right as well. Like I said earlier, the fml's greatest passion in life is medicine and even ml can't shake its position in her heart. I don't want to give any spoilers, but there was a part of the story where the ml sort of appealed to Meng Qi with loving actions but Meng Qi resolutely denied those actions as "romantic". Granted the novel has only been translated to the end of arc 2 so I can't say if that'll change in the future but I love a good slow-burn romance. I hate how the romance in cultivation novels happens almost instantly and for no reason other than "she's different from other women" or "he's handsome and strong". Although this novel isn't completely separate from this trope, it at least plays out in a way that's more satisfying for the readers.  <<less

The story’s description is misleading. I put it off for so long thinking it was going to be a slightly abusive master-disciple relationship but the “master” in the title is heard more of a “Wow you’re so powerful, master” *deadpans* connotation. The comedy is strong in this one. ... more>>

Despite being a xianxia, there is hardly any actual cultivating going on, which although common in female protag novels, is fine artfully well in this one. The author doesn’t try to make it about cultivating or fighting. The relationship between the leads is the main focus. 

At the same time, just because the story is centered around the romance doesn’t mean that it’s dog-blooded. Thinking back on it, although the author used a typical dog-blooded trope (twice even), it didn’t feel frustrating at all. I was entirely drawn into the plot and emotions. If by chance, you do feel stifled by the somewhat cliche development, I recommend you continue the rest the next day. I guarantee that you’ll enjoy it more than if you just binged it in one go. 

The two leads made the story all the better. I love the ml’s character. The way he loved the fml was so sweet. Despite having the powerful and angsty character traits, he didn’t develop into a stone-faced CEO type, though he was domineering in his own right. The fml leaning towards the lawful/chaotic neutral alignment (at least imo, I’m open to debate) ensures that the humor stays throughout and clearly emphasizes the important moments through the contrast. (If anyone was curious, I think ml is lawful evil or perhaps chaotic neutral.)

I will say that the fml seemed to turn from a salted fish into more of a foodie towards the end (character development? Lol). It wasn’t a complete break from her og character and it’s understandable that she became more active during those times but I missed the mc in the first arc. The 3 side chapters made up for it though. Lmao “spicy crayfish” hahaha <<less

All the other characters were amazing too. None of the antagonists were ever completely evil and always had something admirable about them.

The book has nice, long chapters and even though the translator edited the mtl, it was still very understandable and read as if a native Chinese speaker had done it. Really stunning work. Binge read it in a day and night. <<less
