In this life ML decides to change his life and plots against the emperor (his father) and the concubines who harmed him. He makes plans on how to marry MC.
One big reason why I like this novel so much is because of what happened after their death at old age. MC goes back to her body in the future and ML is reborn in this time too. The get together again.
I also liked that ML let MC rule when he became emleror and just sat back while she governed the ministers. And then the part where their son of previous life joins them in this life for a few days and gets to meet his mother.

Her family were on their way to a better place to escape from the famine. However when her father Gu Dajiang went missing after distracting bandits to save the family, her grandfather kicked her family from the fleeing family team. Her grandfather had preferred his sons from another wife for years. Her uncle hit her on her head to steal the 2 pieces of silver her father left her. They leave them with a few potatoes.
Her mother has brain damage because of a blow to her head and acts like a 5 year old child and she has 2 younger siblings. Her younger brother Gu Yunshu is 5 years old and her sister Gu Coco is 1 year old. So it is up to Yundong who is 15 years old to take care of her family. They had agreed with her father that they would meet in Qing'an Mansion (City).
While spending the night in an empty house, she saves a few children from the Bai family from cannibals by killing them. She gets a little food from their guard Gao Feng and takes out some food from her space every now and then to survive. She also gets some silver coins from these cannibals. When they arrive at Qing'an Mansion, the city gates are closed. When they hear that robbers want to attack the city, they decide to go walk to Xuanhe Mansion.
On their way, a family member tries to sell her to someone in the city. Yundong kills the attackers.
When they arrive at Xuanhe Mansion, Yundong pays entrance fee of the city and asks a guard belonging to the Nie family to help her find a place to stay in the city. He lets her stay with his cousin Ke who loves children. When she sees wanted posted of the robbers who attacked Qing'an Mansion, she sees the pictures look nothing like a real person. She offers to make a better drawing on the basis of a description which looks exactly like the real person. She gets paid 50 silver coins as reward when they manage to capture several robbers on basis of her drawings.
In town she sees Shao Qingyuan who punishes a shop holder who refuses to pay his wages. The shopholder accuses him, but is sentenced to prison for a year.
Yundong asks a doctor to check out her mother. He tells her, her father visited a quack doctor who worsened her condition. The only one who might be able to help is doctor Song.
The magistrate is thankful for her drawings. In return she asks if they can be placed in a village with a town leader who treats his people well. They get assigned to Yongfu village. They pay a family to live with them and buy a plot of land to build a house. Yundong pays a carpenter to build her a house. She is willing to spend all her money on the house.
In the village she sees Shao Qingyuan again. Qingyuan is 18 years at this time. Almost everyone in the village is afraid of him and they call him wolf cub. He separated from the Li family who found him as a baby and raised him and did not honour his grandfather upon his death. His grandfather was the only one in the family who treated him well.
Yundong meets Qingyuan in the mountains and helps him hunt some wild boars. He offers her half the money he gets from selling them to Liu Wei, a decendant from a wealthy family. She makes him some food in thanks. He really likes her food and starts to like her too.
Yundong wants to buy some white sugar in town but sees that the sugar that is offered is not really white. She tells the shop owner this is not what she wants and she will make her own white sugar. The shop owner who belongs to the Tao family later denounces her and Liu Wei gets into an argument with the Tao family about that and starts a bet that Yundong can make white sugar. Turns out the Tao family and the Liu family are on bad terms and want to use this to get a few shops from the Liu family. Yundong shows Liu Wei she can make white sugar and convinces him to up the stakes of the bet. Of course Yundong wins the bet.
Yundong decides to offer the recipe to make white sugar to the emperor through Qin Wenzheng, a scholar and teacher in town, and get the right to make her own sugar and have the right to sell her own. She knows she can't protect it herself. She gets awarded some money by the emperor. As condition she wants to let Qin Wenzheng accept her brother as a student in his school.
Yundong decides to buy some more land in the village and build a workshop to start making sugar. Shao Qingyuan (who turns out to be the riches man in the village without anyone knowing about it) lends her 800 silver coins for the startup and gets a share in the company.
She buys a family to oversee her workshop. Their daughter Tong Shuitao has a huge natural strength and becomes her maid / guard.
Yundong hires villagers for her workshop, buys land to grow sugar cane and buys a shop in town to sell sugar. This becomes a succes. All the rich people want to buy white sugar. They are sold out daily. She also buys land to grow fruit trees and start to can fruits and sell these. This also becomes a success.
Yundong decides to open a second shop in Xuanhe Mansion. This also becomes a success. Several people covet her white sugar business, but are afraid because she is protected by the emperor.
Yundong finds doctor Song and asks him if her mother can be cured. He gives her mother accupuncture but can't completely cure her. He tells her he needs Bai Muzi, an expensive and rare herb to do that. She copies a book with descriptions of herbs from him. She gives this book to Shao Qingyuan who promises to help her look for it.
She hears that her 5 year old cousin Bian Yuanzhi has been brought to the Gu family. Her older cousin Bian Mulan has died. Yuanzhi is being starved and ab*sed at the Gu family. Yundong decides to get Yuanzhi away from the Gu family. At the same time she also takes revenge on them for the way they treated her family and Yuanzhi. She sets them up against each other, causing chaos in the family. When she leaves she brings Yuanzhi back.
She starts looking for her father, but gets no clues. She hangs up wanted posters of her father in Xuanhe Mansion and Qing'an Mansion. She finds out that her father has entered Qing'an Mansion and helped arrest the robbers who attacked the city, but she doesn't know where he is now.
She gets engaged to Shao Qingyuan.
Yundong hears that the Xin family in Wanqing Mansion might have Bai Muzi that can cure her mother. When she arrives there, she meets the Yu family again. She met them before while she waiting at the gates of Qing'an Mansion and they warned her about the oncoming attack on the city. They tell her they met her father, but he is not present at the moment. He has been looking for hem all this time and is living with them when he is not out searching for his family. He has gotten another clue recently and is away because of that. He has heard that the son of the Xin family has taken a concubine with the name Gu Yundong. Uncle Yu also tells her that the Xin family is very wealthy and are unlikely to sell the Bai Muzi to her.
Yundong finds her father beaten up very badly by the Xin family in an alley near their mansion for intruding. They have been apart for 2 years. She takes her father to her room and hires a doctor to help him. While he is recovering she investigates the Xin family and finds out about them colluding with 2 other countries and betraying the emperor. She sends a message to Qin Wenzheng who works for the emperor about this. A few days later Mo Xulin shows up asking her to help find evidence. It so happens that she just bought a former servant of the Xin family to help her father who has a letter his sister left him. His sister was killed after overhearing them talk about some things.
Yundong turns in the things she has and the following day the Xin family is arrested by the people of the emperor. She meets Duan Qian, who is leading the investigation team. Duan Qian comes from a wealthy merchant family. As a reward for helping them she gets to pick a number of things from the treasury of the Xin family and gets a shop at a prominent place. She decides to open a vegetable shop and hires uncle Yu as a manager.
On their way home her father tells Yundong that a taoist priest once told him her soul was unstable and predicted that her soul would be restored at 14 after surviving a death calamity. After hearing that she thinks that her soul in the other world was unstable too and her soul is now complete.
When they return they find out that Shao Qingyuan has opened a medicine shop next to Yundong's shop. He has been learning medicine from the book Yundong gave him and has been learning very fast. (while Yundong can't remember a thing from the book).
Shao Qingyuan has been kidnapped as a baby by his grandfather and has always been treated badly by his adoptive parents. At age 5 they left him behind in the forest in the mountains. He was played with by apes, but managed to escape and get back. At age 8 he was sold to traffickers and escaped with another boy and came back because his grandfather treated him well. When he was about 15 his grandfather knew he was about to die and tried to poison him. By accident the water with the poison ended up in grandfather's food and grandfather was poisoned. When he was dying, he told ML that his parents, who belonged to the Tao family, didn't want him. A taoist told them that he brought them bad luck. They had him taken away and brought up to have a miserable life so their life could be good. His grandfather who took him treated him well, while his parents treated him badly. He deliberately treated ML with snacks etc to make the other children jealous and mistreat him. He thought up all kinds of things to make him more miserable while acting like he was the only one that loved him and treated him well.
MC and ML get caught up in a conspiracy to change the emperor of their country. They find out that the Tao family also belongs to the conspiracy.
MC follows conspirators and hides in a box they are transporting. She removes all the silver from the box first and hides that in her space. She finds their hideout in the woods and runs away after that. She meets ML who was looking for her and they go back.
They tell Qin Wenzheng about what they found out and about ML's family in the hope ML will get exempted from capital punishment when the Tao family gets captured. The eldest son of the Tao family is not favoured by his father and not working with him. He is trying to find his younger brother who was taken away after birth. After investigation the real younger brother is found. Turns out ML does not belong to the Tao family. The father and younger son of the Tao family are punished. The other sons go free.
When the 2nd son of the Li family has a wedding, they invite ML. They don't want to be avoided in the village because of the things their family did (the people in the village found out about it because ML told them). He does not intend to come after the way he was treated by the Li family, though the 2nd family did not really mistreat him. When they tell him they have something that belonged to him as a baby he decides to come anyway. After the wedding they give him a handkerchief with the words Shao on it.
When ML asks the Tao sons about this handkerchief, they tell him that it is made from cloth that is only available to the emperor and some highly regarded noble families.
The couple help round up a gang of traffickers. Their leader is the wife of the traffickers who took ML when he was 8 years old. Her husband was killed when ML and his friend (from the influential Dou family) escaped. She wants to kill everyone who was involved in the death of her husband. They manage to capture everyone from their gang. Turns out that grandfather Li (who abducted ML), used to belong to this gang. One of the leaders tells them he kidnapped ML on command of grandfather Li. He tells them he seemed to hate ML's parents. He describes a bracelet his mother wore. They make a copy of this bracelet.
Gu Dajiang decides to go back to school to keep studying. He wants to become a scholar and an official. He enters a prominent school in Xuanhe Mansion and they buy a house there.
MC decides to create Xinming pavillion in Xuanhe Mansion, a sort of cafe only meant for wealthy women and their children. They can drink and eat there and enjoy themselves. MC creates the design and the recipes. She works with Mrs. Dai and Nie Shuang, who are both from wealthy families, to create it. They will manage the shop. It becomes a huge success.
MC finds her aunt Gu Dafeng and uncle, the parents of Bian Yuanzhi, because of wooden carvings her aunt tries to sell. She finds out her cousin, who has become a concubine of a wealthy man, had them sign an ens*avement contract with her and has been mistreating them. MC asks the Duan family to help her buy the contract from them to free them, since the Duan family is more powerful. This is a succes. Her uncle's legs have been broken by the cousin, so MC gets a doctor to help him. They start selling wooden carvings and start earning money this way. When this works, they open a shop with MC's help to sell his wood creations.
MC also hires him to create a playgarden with a slide, swing and seesaw for the children who visit Xinming pavillion, which becomes a huge success. Her uncle gets a lot of assignments to make them for wealthy families.
Gu Yundong gets a clue about her uncle Gu Xiaoxi. He was saved by a man and promised him to take care of his daughter. She travels to the town where her uncle is and finds out he is about to be executed because he cheated on his wife (the daughter he promised to take care of). Yundong saves him and finds out the wife has been acting sick since they got married and let her uncle do all the work. The marriage has never been consumated. She has found a wealthy man who wants her to be his concubine and decides to kill her husband because of that. She drugs him and a Chu Yaya, girl from another family, to make it seem they cheated. Yundong proves their innocence. Her uncle marries Chu Yaya after that and follows Yundong to Yongfu village, where he buys a piece of land. He plans to become a farmer. When Yundong finds out he is a good storyteller, she lets him tell stories in the village to practice. He later starts writing boos and becomes a very well-known writer.
Gu Yundong gets married to Shao Qingyuan.
They decide to travel to the capital to find clues about Qingyuan's parents. When they arrive they buy a mansion and MC decides to open a workshop and shop to sell sugar and cans. She also opens another Xinming pavillion with the wife of Qin Wenzheng. She gets introduced to a wife of the Shao family, but she does not recognize the handkerchief and bracelet she has. She later meets a servant who recognizes the handkerchief. She tells them it belonged to the daughter of the Shao family, Shao Yi. Her father wanted her to marry the 3rd prince, but she didn't want that. She was then kidnapped by Gu Jingyuan. Her father was furious and showed proof of the Gu family not paying taxes, etc and the entire family was sentenced to Lingzhou Mansion. This is an island where prisoners are sent. Only when a 3rd generation is born on the island, are people from the island allowed to leave that place. Shao Yi was pronounced dead by ner father.
MC and ML decide to travel to Lingzhou Mansion. They meet the Gu family, who are morally very bad and selfish people. They find out that Shao Yi was freed by Bai Hang, who belongs to a famous medical family.
They travel to a neighbouring magistrate to find out how to meet them and happen to meet them there. Shao Yi and Bai Heng are indeed ML's parents. Shao Yi has been having mental problems since her son was abducted. Because of that she has always led a secluded life in the Bai family. They travel to the Bai family to meet the rest of the family. Shao Yi falls into the pond shortly after. Turns out mrs. Xu, the wife of the eldest son of the Bai family, is responsible for Shao Yi's relapses. She tells them she wants her child to take over the family. The eldest son and his children have no talent in medicine. ML's father and ML do. The family has hospitals all over the country. They created them to look for ML.
Turns out the Xu family tries to take over the Bai family and they are colluding with King Lu, the uncle of the emperor to take over the throne. The replaced the son of the 3rd who was executed because of trying to kill his father the emperor, and a daughter of the Xu family had a son together, and this son was placed in the Bai family. This is Bai Zhiyan, who is now trying to take the throne.
The Xu family is arrested, later King Lu and his son are also arrested after a large attack in the capital trying to take over the throne. However Bai Zhiyan manages to escape.
MC and ML have a son together. MC is rewarded the title of county princess by the emperor because of her contribution to their country. She has also given the emperor a recipe for making a magnifying glass.
The emperor gets clues that Bai Zhiyan might be hiding at the border in the south. He makes ML a magistrate of a border town and asks him to find clues. ML does not want to be an official, but knows that Bai Zhiyan will not leave them alone since they had a great part in discovering his conspiracy. The town ML becomes magistrate of is very poor. MC decides to open a workshop and a shop again. In the workshop she will make sugar and fruit wines. She hires local carpenters to improve the magistrate housing and build her workshop and later the Duan family also decides to build a workshop there. This causes a great improvement in the living circumstances there. MC even decides to teach drawing at the local school. A few teachers who are not fit are fired.
Gu Dajiang becomes a scholar and becomes the prefect of the area where MC and ML are.
MC and ML find Bai Zhiyang after a lot of searching after he tries to attack them. He is colluding with the Li country to invade their empire. He manages to escape to the Li country through miasma woods. MC and ML follow him. She has oxygen tanks they can use to travel through the woods to avoid being poisoned. 3 of Bai Zhiyang's men die in the woods of poisoning, leaving him only 1 man. They capture Bai Zhiyang in the border town. He kills a couple there and wounds several people in town. They meet a 4 year old boy Song Yan who belongs to their kingdom whose mother died. He is being mistreated by the villagers.
When they leave the town, they bring along Song Yan. They decide to travel with a carriage and go back to their country the official way. However when they stay in a border town, they are discovered by a guard who finds out they do not have identification. They pay him with sugar to bribe him. He gets MC an identification and orders her to get more sugar to free ML. She leaves the country with Bai Zhiyan and Song Yan in a hidden compartment in the carriage. ML escapes the city and decides to go through the miasma woods again. MC has left him an oxygen tank to use. ML warns a few children in the border village who helped him before that a war might be coming and to leave the village. They tell him that several lf their soldiers entered the miasma woods to look for him. ML enters the miasma woods and kills the soldiers. One of them is a spy of their country. However his gas tube is cut during a fight with the soldiers and he gets of the trail when he is attacked by a wild boar.
MC enters the miasma woods from her countries side and goes in again to look for ML. She finds him and gives him a new tank, saving his life. They safely leave the woods.
Shortly after their country is attacked by Li country. The spy tells his employer that the Li country is searching for a girl named Song Ruishu. MC is asked to look for her.
She also hears that her uncle Gu Xiaoxi (who has a son now) traveled to the area where the Gu family lives and hears about the death of his mother. He goes to her funeral and pays the expenses of the funeral. The 2 sons of his father who stayed don't want to take care of his father. He rents a house and starts to live there with his father. The family try to extort him and his father brings in his grandson and 2 sons to get money from Xiaoxi.
While looking for traces of Song Ruishu MC visits her uncle Gu Xiaoxi.
When Yundong throws the other family members out, they file a complaint with the magistrate. When they accuse her father of being not filial, they hear they will be punished with 20 planks for filing a complaint against an official. When they change their compaint to MC it is the same. When they change it to her uncle Gu Xiaoxi, he tells them he has been filial. He has taken in his father and taken care of him. After changing a few times, the magistrate punishes them anyway. Since they are punished they decide to file the complaint agains MC's father. When the magistrate hears that her father is the prefect at the border and can't leave because of the war between the countries, they are sent to jail. Her grandfather is sent to 3 years in prison, the others 1 year. Gu Xiaoxi tells his grandfather he had been planning to buy him a house and a few servants to take care of him, and asks him why he had to bring in his other family members to harrass him. He tells him he was just greedy. Gu Xiaoxi never cares for his father again. His father leaves prison after 3 years and stays alone after that waiting for Gu Xiaoxi.
Gu Fa, one of the grandsons r*ped a girl to marry her and she got pregnant. She gets a daughter named Gu Ruyi. She is living a very unhappy life with him. MC gets the girl assigned to her mother and she and her parents and daughter leaves with MC to another place. MC brings her to the place she is looking for the Song girl and they settle there. She even finds the father a job.
She finds Song Ruishu's family and finds out she has been missing since the famine. Her family is a merchant family. She also finds out the Su family has been looking for her 2 years before. The Su family also has a daughter missing since the famine and Song Ruishu was her maid. After some deduction she concludes that Song Ya is her daughter or the daughter of the girl of the Su family.
She travels with speed to the emperor to ask to spare Song Ya's life. She then travels back to ML and tells him about this. They start to strictly guard their house and Song Ya. A few days later the emperor of Li country arrives and attacks their place. They get to a standstill and start to negotiate. Turns out Song Ya is the son of the emperor and the girl of the Su family. She became the emperor's concubine. She met him while they were at Qing'an Mansion and he brought her along when he went back. She was poisoned by the queen and let Song Ruishu escape with her son to save his life.
Song Ya and his father travel to the capital and negotiate peace. He brings Song Ya back to his country.
Shao Qingyuan hands the emperor the design of a telescope. After some research based on MC's books he also hands in a way to fertilize land. 2 years later his term as a magistrate is up and the couple travels back to the capital. When the emperor wants to promote him, he resigns. He does not like being an official. The emperor does not like it, but accepts it. He is promoted to marquis.
They go back to living in Xuanhe Mansion.

10 years later Gu Yunshu is married to the daughter of Yi Zilan, a family member of the emperor. Gu Coco, who has loved cooking is married to Qi Ting, the grandson of Gu Dajiang's teacher. She has opened a restaurant. Qi Ting became the magistrate of the village where Shao Qingyuan was magistrate of before. Chichi (or Bai Mo), MC and ML's son is 12 years old. He is adventuring. He is a very strong fighter and good in medicine. The couple's has also gotten a daughter, called Wanwan.
Gu Ruyi has become a very good embroiderer. She has arrived at Xuanhe Mansion with a few others to repair an expensive embroidery. While at the house of the embroiderers. She is attacked by their son who wants her to become his concubine. Gu Yundong rescues her.
Song Ya visits them. He has been poisoned 3 years before and has not managed to remove the poison. ML's grandfather removes the poison. When Song Ya and Chichi go hunting in the woods at Yongfa village, the local snake of Xuanhe Mansion finds out assassins want to kill Song Ya. He gets wounded while trying to pass on the message and is saved by Gu Ruyi. He falls in love with ner and marries her a few years later.
Song Ya and Chichi fight of the assassins and kill them all.
At a medical conference ML's student announces that when cousins get married there is a higher chance of birth defects. This causes a huge uproar.
2 years later Chichi travels to Li country to visit Song Ya.
This is a nice novel. Has lots of characters who keep coming back. Sometimes hard to keep track of. ML has had no experience of real family life before meeting MC. He is quite strong, but most of the fighting in the novel is done by MC and her maid. Very little saving MC by ML. Nice characters. Children also feel like real children. No OP characters, except maybe MC's maid.

When she wakes up again, she is in the body of an 10 year old child she read about in a novel, raised as the di daughter of a marquis. However the family recently found out she was switched at birth and the real daugther is raised by others. A mistake was made when both families were staying in a cave while traveling.
Yu Xiang only read the first few pages of the novel where she is sent to the country when the family found out about her having been switched. So she doesn't know what will happen in the future.
Her father died when she was very young and her brother Yu Pin Yan (15) was sent to the palace as a study mate of the crown prince. Their mother Lin Shi became indifferent after her husband's death and cared for nothing anymore. Above that a fortune teller once told her that Yu Xiang would bring disaster to her family, so the mother hates her and blames her for her husband's death. She even placed curse amulets in Yu Xiang's room.
Her elder shu sister Yu Si Yu (12) has always been very nice to her and the original treated her very good as well, giving her half of her allowance and other things. However in reality she hates MC.

He is just about to travel with the crown prince to deliver 5 mln disaster relief money. When he sees a situation as described in his sister's dream, he convinces the crown prince to stop, saving them from the mudslide.
Afterwards they continue their mission and it is a great succes. On their way back Yu Pin Yan leaves the convoy to find a doctor who can cure Yu Xiang's legs. While traveling home they come across the crown prince's cojvoy. The crown prince has gotten the plague. The doctor agrees to help the crown prince on condition he won't help his sister anymore. Yu Pin Yan agrees.
Yu Xiang meets the ninth princess during a festival. The ninth princess is very much loved by her parents and the crown prince, but is very slow because she has been born prematurely. They immediately strike a friendship. The daughter of Prince Yu, tries to take away a lantern they won. Yu Pin Yu's fiancee interferes and tries to convince them to give the lantern up. Both don't realize who the ninth princess is. The fiancee and her family deserted them when their family came into trouble when his father died and she even tried to work together with one of his uncles who tried to get his hands on their estate.
When home the doctor visits their home and sees lots of plants growing in their garden. He even sees a rare plant that can make pills to fight lots of poisons. This plant normally only grows on icy snowcapled mountains. She can let every plant grow even if it is not in their own territory. He starts sending her rare plants asking her to take care of them.
Yu Pin Yan decides to join the army. One night she has a nightmare and in her dream yells at her brother to step aside. Yu Pin Yan hears her voice and avoids an arrow thanks to her.
While he's there Yu Xiang and her grandmother visit a famous master and grandmother asks him about her missing granddaughter. He tells her she is a jinx. She will bring bad luck to everyone who is around her (husband, family, etc). She and her brother will never be able to live together. He also tells her that Yu Xiang can help avoid the bad luck the jinx brings.
The crown princess is pregnant with twins and stays in a temple. While there Shen Miao Qi threw coles on the burning fire that were poisoned, causing the crown princess to go into premature labour. Luckily she gave birth to a boy and a girl.
Yu Pin Yan finds out Shen Miao Qi is his long lost sister. She is also innoncent of the poisoning. A few years ago, when the crown prince had the plague, she tried to give him herbs, for which Yu Pin Yan had her thrown in jail. Her family had to pay 80% of their possessions to get her out. They lost the rest because of another mistake she made. Her father died. Her brother sold himself into s*avery to give his mother some money to treat her illness. She left her mother with the last money she had and set out to find her family (her mother told her she was switched by them). Her mother died alone immediately afterwards. The caravan she joined to travel to the capital was robbed. She sold herself as a maid to a wealthy family and its owner immediately lost the job he was supposed to get.
Yu Pin Yan who is 20 now is known as the living king of hell. He has become the 3rd most powerful person of the empire after the emperor and the crown prince. He brings his sister home and has no feelings for her, he even dislikes her.
Yu Xiang and Yu Pin Yan behave very intimately together. They are always in each others company, snuggling together.

The Crown princess is very sick after having given birth and is not expected to live much longer. She intends to let one of her sisters marry the crown prince so they can take care of her children. Yu Xiang gives her a plant that can repel insects. That same night she and her brother are called to the palace. Turns out someone has somehow let an insect enter her brain and that insect left her when it smelled the plant. When Yu Xiang is holding one of her babies she notices another insect in the babies nose. The other baby has one as well. The emperor and the crown prince are furious. One of the crown prince's concubines who has given birth to a son first is behind this. She and her relatives are executed.
Yu Xiang is bestowed a title by the emperor. She is named Si Nong Xiangjun.
At her coming of age ceremony, the ninth princess and the crown princess are present along with some very important people. Yu Miao Qi has made a mess of the estates bookkeeping and has bought some fruits that are rotten. A lot of guest become sick of the food. The family has to visit all the guests to apologize.
After this the books are taken away from her. Turns out she managed to lose 70.000 silvers in half a year of mismanagement. Old madam divorces Lin Shi from her dead son and sends her to her maiden family. Her dowry is taken as partial repayment of their loss. She wants to send away Yu Miao Qi as well, but she tells Yu Xiang she is not her twinsister (which she already knew) and threatens to expose this.
Yu Xiang takes control of the estate again.
Yu Miao Qi keeps trying to get rid of Yu Xiang and also Yu Si Yu, who now has a pretty good relation with Yu Xiang after having seen through and been betrayed by Yu Miao Qi. Yu Miao Qi tries to let Yu Si Yu marry the son of an official who has been deposed by the emperor because of fraud. She also constantly tries to blacken Yu Xiang in front of others, but Yu Xiang always repels her.
Yu Pin Yan finally finds a doctor who can help cure Yu Xiang's legs. She gets operated and is slowly learning to walk.
Yu Miao Qi sets her eyes on marrying the crown prince first and when he dislikes her she meets the fourth prince. When barbarians invade, Yu Pin Yan is sent to the borders to defeat them. The fourth prince convinces Yu Miao Qi to put a box in Yu Pin Yan's office which will show him betraying the emperor. At the border part of the army betrays him and works together with the barbarians to kill Yu Pin Yan's army. He is shot with an arrow and falls into the river and goes missing.
Old madam learns that Yu Xiang and her brother have fallen in love and she wants to marry Yu Xiang off. Her brothers people warn Shen Yuan Qi. The man old madam wants her to marry seems great, but in reality he is a sadist. Yu Xiang leaves the estate with her Shen Yuan Qi and starts living with him.
Yu Xiang dreams of Yu Pin Yan being shot and falling into the river and she decides to travel to the bordrr to find him. She brings along a few buddhist, among which the doctor who helped her. When she arrives her brother has already gone missing. She can feel where he is and sets out to find him in which she succeeds. Yu Pin Yan is helped by the doctor and gets an army from elsewhere to defeat the barbarians and free 2 cities they have taken control of. He captures the traitors and defeats the barbarians.
In the meantime Yu Xiang has dreamed that the crown prince and Yu Pin Yan will be accused of treason and she sends a letter about this to Shen Yuan Qi asking him to warn the crown prince. The crown prince finds the evidence she dreamed of and tells the emperor. They decide to put on an act to see who is behind this. The crown prince is imprisoned after finding the so called evidence and the marquis is accused of betrayal.
His mother Lin Shi works with Yu Miao Qi tu accuse her brother. They work together with his uncle who tried to kill Yu Pin Yan years ago. Old madam regrets refusing Yu Xiang's marriage to her grandson.
When Yu Pin Yan returns after his victory, the emperor imprisons the fourth prince and the people who betrayed him.
Lin Shi and Yu Miao Qi are removed from the family registry and sent into exile. Yu Miao Qi ends up as a famous prostitute, her mother washes laundry.
Yu Xiang and Yu Pin Yan get married by royal decree (he asked for the decree). They have a son 3 years later. The ninth princess marries Shen Yuan Qi.

Shortly after Liu general and his family is sentenced and the Xiao family is sentenced as well. The men are to be executed and the women are to be sold as s*aves.
You Jin travels to the capital and buys the female family members when they are sold. She lets one of them visit the men in jail. Shortly after they hear that Xiao Lin Yu has died. A little later they hear that the men of the Xiao family won't be executed, but are sent to a prison far away. You Jin pays a guard to take good care of them and brings the women back to her place.
3 years later, the emperor dies and the crown prince wins the fight for the throne. Turns out the crown prince let Xiao Lin Yu leave prison and earn money for him. He is still alive. The new emperor pardons the Xiao family and also the Han and Liu family. Xiao Lin Yu is promoted to Commandery Duke. The 2 sons of the Han family have been working for the Su family and the oldest one married the 2nd daughter.
Xiao Lin Yu shows up at their doorstep and reunites with his family. He proposes to MC and they get married shortly after. A few sisters have already gotten married.
15 years later everyone live a happy life. MC has 2 children and her sisters have children as well. The Su daughters are very well known. Their school for ladies is a huge success. The fish pond they made is also visited by many people and is a very well known hot spot.
There is very little romance in this novel. The first 42 chapters are mainly about the miserable life MC and her siblings had. After that it is mostly about the way to success of the Su family. Mrs. Su is pretty useless. She is very weak. At first she spoils her only son, acting the same way the Yue family acted. When MC sees her brother hitting a servant she starts correcting him. The entire family depends on MC.
I kinda miss a clear ending to the members of the Yue family. I only know that the 2nd wife dies. I don't know how the other members end up. The ex-fiancee of ML is also never mentioned again after she fails to buy the female members of the Xiao family. And there is a girl who married the son of friends of the Su family, who is very jealous of MC and thinks she is after her husband. She once conspires to have her r*ped by the brother of the son who once kidnappped MC, but this fails because her sister-in-law overhears them and warns MC. It ends with her still being married and her family not liking her because of what she tried to do and afraid of what she might do in the future. MC was warned about someone trying to kidnap her, but did not warn anyone about this and did not arrange a guard. In the end she did get kidnapped. Bad planning.

Qiao Xuan buys a piece of land and has this surrounded by a 3 mtr high wall. On it she starts to grow plants she mostly finds in the woods (melons, flowers, tea trees, bees, mushrooms, etc.). She regularly goes into the woods with her husband and brother-in-law to find new things. She finds some ganoderma and sells them for a good price. She gives her family a part of the money. Their lives start to improve. MC is good at cooking and buys good food and meat in the town and they regularly fish.
During a visit to her parents MC's Di mother forces her to bring back a servant to spy on her. MC makes her sign a confession about some things her Di-sister has done, to get her under control.
MC and ML meet 2 influential men (Le Zhengxiao and Xie Jingrong) in town her father is trying to befriend and she finds out one kf them is looking for a 500yo ganoderma for his grandmother. She goes looking for it and gives it to him in return for a medal that can get his help. She makes a deal with the other man to start making lipsticks. She has made a few samples to show them to him. The family starts to actively make lipsticks. With the first large amount of money MC earns she buys another large piece of land (100 acre?) in a different town.
She keeps everything a secret for her own family (magistrate) and also from her father-in-law who is always thinking of helping his brother's families. Thanks to MC her mother-in-law feels strengthened and has begun to stand up against her husband refusing to help his brothers any longer.
The couple decides to buy 2 mountains with 500 mu land.
They travel to the provincial capital so ML can learn extra things for his studies and meet their 2 friends. MC accidentally saves Le Zhengxiao mother who faints and then helps his father she sees at their place. His father has been poisoned and has been sick for a long time. MC discovers she can heal when she helps him a little and they ask her to heal Le Zhengxiao's father (she tells them she knows soms accupuncture). She succeeds. She gets some branches of valuable trees from their garden.
There are some internal problems between the brothers of the Le family about the inheritance.
When MC plants the branches she received from the Le family in her space, her space is upgraded enough to access a cabin in her space. The cabin has a terminal that can identify plants, diseases they have and give recipes to use them (for example it tells her how to fry her tea leaves). She can now finally store objects in her space.
Shao Yunyun gets expelled from the academy because Qiao Wei had someone set him up. The setup didn't work (he was a few others the entire time someone destroyed a valuable orchid in the dean's office, but was expelled anyway. The same day the couple finds out someone put up apprentice notices in town. Everybody makes fun of this, but MC encourages ML to check it out. ML gets accepted and gets lessons from this teacher who is very knowledgeable.
Shao Liulang, a cousin of ML who tries to become a scholar but is not very talented falls in love with Zhao Ming, the sister of the guy who tried to set ML up on instigation of Qiao Wei.
Youngest son of second room marries Yan Shi, a girl of a well-off family. She tries to befriend the 1st room and comes along regularly, also giving gifts.
Shao Dalang gets wounded. A stone rolls over his leg. The doctor is afraid he will have lasting problems with his leg. MC decides to use her healing powers to help his healing process. ML gets a specialized doctor with the help from Le Zhengxiao and he tells them Dalang will completely heal after about half a year.
Yan Shi overhears widow Sun (who is very antagonistic towards their family) conspire with her lover about harming Shao Dalang. Turns out it was intentional harm. She tells MC about this. ML decides to spy on them at night and when her lover stays at her place at night he sets a fire forcing him to escape the house from her bedroom window. When the villagers find out about them having an affair she tells everyone she is his concubine. She is forced to move in with him and his wife, making her and her daughter's life miserable.
The Zhao family patriarch, from one of the wealthiest families in town, finds out MC and ML have bought a large piece of land that he had wanted to buy at a low price. He decides to set up a scheme to get this land (poisoning animals and crop). His scheme fails thanks to the alertness of the supervisor of the land. Le Zhengxiao visits him telling him the land belongs to him. He stops after that. His daughter overhears them and wants to tell Qiao Wei about this.
MC's father needs 30.000 silver to get a job in the capital. He is trying to get money everywhere. When he finds out in a different way that MC and ML have land, he calls them to try and get money. ML tells him that the land belongs to the Le family as well. He then tries to convince ML to hand over the supervisor rights to him, but ML says he has to ask Le Zhengxiao about this, which Le Zhengxiao refuses. Her father then has his wives sell all their jewelry, etc they have, but they are still 10.000 silver short. He decides to ask the wealthiest families for money (again). He has already asked them for money before.
The daughter of the Zhao family then decides to tell Qiao Wei nothing, since she is angry about the demand of money (her family gave 3.500 silver in 2 parts).
Qiao Kou (another concubine's daughter) is angry that all of the silver her mother and she have saved over the years is gone. She decides to go and steal Qiao Wei's fiancee in the future.
ML goes to the provincial capital for his exam to become a juren. MC travels in the area to find a nice place to buy a home. By accident she sees Le Zhengting (an annoying cousin of Le Zhenxiao) trying to entrap Xie Jingron. She stops her and saves Xie Jingrong. In revenge she and her mother want to break ML's hand so he can't do the exam. Xie Jinrong and Le Zhenxia had sent guards to keep an eye on them, so he is allright. The servants get the blame and are sent in exile. They have to pay ML 10.000 silver in compensation. MC gambles 20.000 silver on ML passing his exam. Several friends bet on him as well. MC wins 100.000 silver when he becomes first.
They then hear that the Zhao family have been looking for trouble with them, trying to see their gated land (that has fruit trees, lipstick making, ganoderma, pumpkins, etc. Le Zhengtiao went there to stop them. They travel back in a hurry, to find that the prodigal son of the Zhao family is trying to kidnap Yang Xiaoni with the help of her family. She escapes and MC and ML are right in time to help her. She breaks of all family relationship with them and her brother and sister-in-law are evicted from the village.
ML donates a school to the village and promises to help pay for 10 students to study there for free.
The 2nd room come to the door to tell them their grandson has been disappeared. The next day they receive a ransom note asking for 100 silver. MC becomes suspicious of the boys' mother Mrs. Zhang (who is always trying to subsidize her family). She tells ML and he watches as the money is handed over. Turns out Mrs. Zhang and her family were behind it. Shao Erlang divorces Mrs. Zhang.
Mrs. Xu gives birth to a son.
ML talks to mr. Qiao and convinces him to imprison the Zhao family for several different crimes. The eldest son, who seems to be the smartest and harms others the least, had set money aside so they could start over, however all this money is found as well. They only have a little left he had already hidden at his wife's parents place. When the 2nd son, who is a good for nothing, keeps making trouble, the eldest son runs away secretly with his wife. The 2nd son keeps making trouble so the parents are forced to sell their daughter, who was always very arrogant, as a concubine.
Shao Liuilan starts to blacken because of this. He thought the daughter would marry him. (She only led him on).
MC's parents find out she is selling lipsticks and she admits ir now. They want a part of this. MC and ML refuse. MC talks about how she has been treated at her father's home and how she was pushed into the water and forced to marry ML. ML feels very sorry for her. They have a falling out with her parents. The parents decide to find a woman to give as a concubine to ML.
Mrs. Zhang is almost tossed to death by her family. She runs away back to her ex-husbands family. Her ex decides to take her back, but is constantly being watched by her mother-in-law.
She convinces Shao Meiling it's a bad idea to marry her fiancee. Now ML has become a juren, she should marry someone better. So Meiling talks to her parents about this and they decide to break off her engagement. When people start gossiping about it they pretend to reconcile and organize a banquet where the 1st room is invited as well. They intend to let Taotao marry Yu XiaoMiao by setting her up. Yu Xiaomiao is angry when he hears what his mother has agreed to do and tells ML about it. They go to the banquet and set Meiling up with Xiaomiao (with his agreement).
Mrs. Fang makes a huge fuss about this and the first room breaks off all relations with the second room.
Meiling tells her parents it all was Mrs. Zhang's idea, so mrs. Niu starts treating mrs. Zhang even worse. Mrs. Zhang is slowly going crazy. She has a big quarrel with her mother-in-law and her husband divorces her again. Her parents then sell her to an old widower living in the mountains.
There is a conscription notice in their village. Xiao Qi tells his family he wants to enlist. ML asks Xie Jindong to give him some help.
Mrs. Qiao asks MC to stay at her place for a few days. There she meets mrs. Tang and her son mr. Yang. Turns out he is her ex-fiancee. Mrs. Qiao wants to embarrass MC this way and make ML doubt her, which doesn't succeed.
ML goes to the capital to take his jindan exam. They spend their first night underway at the Qiao family. They try to get ML take a concubine. ML gets his father-in-law drunk and sets him up with the concubine. In the capital the couple visits the Qiao family. They deliberately quarrel with them and the family breaks off all relations with them. They even receive a written notice. ML makes sure this is spread in the area where they live.
ML finds a handkerchief on the ground and returns it to it's owner(a lady dressed as a man). After that Tian Shanshan starts spreading she has her eyes on him and that nobody should interfere.
ML becomes the first in the examinations, but then finds out ms. Tian is talking about wanting to marry him. The Tian fami.y is pretty influential. One of the Tian family members in a concubine of the emperor.
The Qiao family comes to the door and threatens the couple to have a divorce. They refuse. ML says in worst case he won't become an official. When the Tian family comes he refuses again.
ML is praised by the emperor and will stay in the capital at the Hanlin academy. Two of his friends will be sent away. He gives each of them 20.000 silver to use.
Shortly after he starts his job, people start impeaching ML. The emperor has a goid impression of him and investigates him. He finds out the Tian family is behind this. The emperor tells everyone to stop and that this is over. Then MC is invited to a party and people try to embarrass her, again on instigation of the Tian family. MC claps back and receives no harm. At the party she hears that a peony plant that belonged to the emperor's mother is dying and nobody knows what to do about it. MC and ML visit the crown prince asking to see it. When she tells him she can heal it, he tells his father and she heals it. They get a large reward from the emperor and empress.
The 4th prince (his mother belongs to the Tian family sends people to rob MC. She finds out and has plants bind them and hurt them.
ML and MC return home. They spend their first night together as a couple.

Shao Liuilang passes his scholar exam. He has been studying hard for this.
The 3rd room talks to father Shao about marrying Taotao to the Sun Family. He knods in agreement even though he had promised in the past he would not interfere in his daughter's marriage. Mrs. Fang angrily slaps them and refuses the marriage, especially after hearing their family has a rare genetic disease. The 3rd room has to pay the Sun family 30 silver in compensation.
The couple return to the capital. The Qiao family has arrived as well. Mr. Qiao has received a 7th rank position in the ministery of industry. He had expected a 5th rank position with the 30.000 silver he paid. They try to contact MC, but she refuses and also asks them if they dare to contact them with the Tian family staring at them. They don't. ML even deliberately lets everyone know they don't dare to see them.
ML threatens the Qiao family that he will tell the Tian family they are still trying to contact him. In reaction the matriarch of the Qian family lets them sign a letter that all contact between them and tje qiao family will be broken off.
Qiao Kou gets caught with Qiao Wei's fiancee Ning Liufang. Her fiancee cooperated with Qiao Kou, because her liked her. His family decides to change the fiancee. Mrs. Qiao is furious and punishs mrs Du (Qiao Kou's mother). She also breaks off the engagement with Qiao Kou. The fiancee's family is happy about that. They didn't really like her. Mr. Qiao is furious at mrs. Qiao. Then Qiao Kou tells the family she is pregnant. The Ning family is now forced to accept Qiao Kou again, but they only accept her as a concubine. They send her to a zhuangzi where she is given a soup to have an abortion.
MC is invited out by the 4th prince's concubine. 2 days later she is invited again. They deliberately leave her alone in the woods. MC finds a 13 year old boy who is unconscious. When he wakes up she finds out he is mentally weak. He turns out fo be the eldest son of the Anping County Prince.
It is said he was very smart when ne was young. When he was 3 years old he took food meant for the emperor and was poisoned. The emperor feels very guilty towards him and his family. In reality he took a pill made by alchemists meant for the emperor, who is obsessed with immortality.
MC decided to cause some trouble for the 4th prince. She has tree roots destroy the courtyard that represents his facade. ML is promoted to the 5th grade as an official of Ministry of Housing. ML gives a speech and from his words the crown prince concludes that Yun Lao, a well-known scholar, is his teacher. Yun Lao never told ML his real background. Yun Lao is the crown prince's master. So now by default ML belongs to the crown prince's party.
ML had never wanted to take a side. The crown prince is virtuous, but is too soft on others.
The 4th prince orders one of his concubines to set ML up. She convinces Qiao Wei to seduce him. At a gathering with the crown prince people try to get him drunk. He goes home acting drunk and Qiao Wei secretly enters his bedroom with the intention of making it look like they were together. ML ties her up and has the prince's people send her back home. The next day her brother shows up accusing him of insulting his sister and demanding to search the premises. The brother is sent for questioning, but the letter he received has disappeared. The one behind this is not found. The brother leaves is the capital and never amounts to anything.
ML hands in his resignation, saying that people are jealous and he does not want to taint mr. Yun's name. The emperor refuses his resignation and even rewards him.
MC and ML are approached by Zhao Shu, the son of the richest man in Yangzhou. After investigation he is in a somewhat difficult situation. His mother, the only child of a very wealthy family, married his father and they combined their businesses. She had mulberry fields that create silk and he had weaving shops to make silk cloth. They had a son (Zhao Shu), but 10 years later her husband shows up with a concubine and 2 sons, the oldest one is even older than Zhao Shu. Zhao Shu's mother immediately hid 100,000 mu of mulberry fields she owned. She sold a lot of valuable things from her warehouse and bought some shops and houses with the money hidden away from her husband. She hid her dowry in her houses. With everything she does afterwards she siphons away money from the main account.
A few years later she dies in an accident while travelling in her carriage with her son. Zhao Shu suspects the concubine is behind this.
Zhao Shu wants to break up with his father, but doesn't know how. They agree to start making perfume. Zhao Shu has land to plant flowers and with that they will make perfume.
He hands over the 100.000 mu of mulberry fields to MC including the IOU's (total of 7.000.000 silver) his father signed for taking the products from the fields. His father hasn't paid him for years.
ML takes a job to go to Yangzhou and the couple travels there together.
They take over the mulberry fields. The Zhao family starts a courtcase saying they were not really sold by Zhao Shu and they are scamming. Zha Shu shows up and says he really sold the fields. He shows a letter where his mother agreed to have Zhao Shu adopted by the patriarch's son and that he should receive her dowry (which she already put somewhere else). When they open the warehouse with her dowry, it is almost empty. Zhao Shu demands monetary rewards, which he receives from his father. Everybody thinks the concubine sold the dowry.
Zhao Shu also wants his mother's grave to be placed at the Zheng family. MC goes to Zhao Mu and tells him in return for moving mrs. Zheng's grave to the Zheng family, he will only have to pay half the money of the IOU's and she will sell him the silk from her fields for market price. He agrees. She receives 300.000 (the rest goes to Zhao Shu) and that is handed over to the crown prince in its entirety.
One of Zhao Mu's sons decides to set fire to the mulberry fields. He had first intended to beat Zhao Shu up, but is instigated by one of his 'friends' to set fire to the fields. This 'friend' has been paid by MC's people. He is caught by the people MC had asked to patrol at night. The Zhao family has to pay a large fine of 400.000 silver and MC tells publicly she won't sell them her silk anymore.
Zhao Mu tries to get his hands on silk for his weavery, but is taken advantage of. Many people don't want to sell to him or already have contracts. He sends his sons to buy silk elsewhere, but this becomes a loss. He finally agrees to buy from MC's fields at 130% marketprice.
Zhao Mu decides to get married again. Decent families don't want to contact his family because he has a concubine running things. The new wife and concubine start a huge battle. The concubine arranges for her people to start a small fire with the intention of blaming it on the new wife. However this causes a huge fire and all the silk burns down. The Zhao family is practically bankrupt. Zhao Mu sells everything and moves away and buys a little lwnd somewhere else and becomes a small landlord.
Zhao Shu buys the weaving workshops, the family home, 6 shops and 5.000 mu fertile land.
MC has planted potatoes she bought from a merchant. They have grown quite well. When they're ready to be harvested he tells the crown prince about this. He receives a reward from the emperor for contributing a great new find to their country.
The crown princess keeps wanting to give ML a concubine. She doesn't like MC. She never offers it to himself, but discusses it several times with the crown prince who each time tells her not to meddle.
A delegation from a barbarian country comes. They demand some ridiculous dishes. A dish made of 100 chicken and 100 fish, a dish that is hot and cold and a cooked fish that is still alive. MC gives them a solution.
The delegation then asks to marry a member of the royal family. The sister of the crown prince is chosen. ML is chosen to accompagnie her. Both choices are made thanks to interferences of the 4th prince. MC decides to go along. On the trip Qiao Wei and a servant have been added to the escorts. MC knows she will try to do something to harm them. Nothing special hapoens on their way there, but when they go back they are attacked almost every night by wolves. MC stops them several times before they arrive at the camp. Then they are attacked by people, but luckily a regiment comes to save them. They are led by Meng Wanfu, the man the couple once saved when he was lying unconscious by the road. Lilac, a fellow transmigrator whom MC once secretly gave food when she was locked up by her family and then escaped her village accompanies him.
When they are at the border Qiao Wei's servant tries to poison her. When she is caught in the act she commits su*cide.
While staying in a town MC is kidnapped. They take her away and rest in a cave in the woods for the night. The next morning MC pretends she needs to use the bathroom, they untie her and she captures them with her woodpowers one after the other. She finds Xie Jinrong whp is camping nearby. He has his servant kill the kidnappers and brings her back to ML.
Xie Jinrong has secretly fallen in love with her.
Meanwhile ML tells everyone his wife is sick and they have to stay a few days. Mrs. Qin, a powerful person in town soup to MC and has her servants try to forcefully break into MC's room. Her husband is working with the 4th prince. ML's people throw the servants out. Then Mrs. Qin and her husband mr. Fu Cheng bring along the prefect and his wife and others come to break into MC's room. They even start a fire. ML sends them all away.
Then ML receives a message from Xie Jingrong's man and MC secretly comes back. Everyone except mr. Fu Cheng and his wife are relieved. ML has someone pretend to assassinate him and leave a bloodtrail to Fu Cheng's house. They search the premises and find the 'assassin', who tells everyone Fu Cheng ordered him. Fu Cheng and his wife are arrested by the prefect and many cases of bribery and other things are found.
The couple arrive safely at the capital and ML tells the crown prince about what happened. He tells him he wants to retaliate gainst the 4th prince. The crown prince asks him to let go. His son was once saved by the 4th prince. ML is very disappointed with the prince. He is convinced this was just a ploy of the 4th prince. ML receives 2 of the prince's servants who have been helping him as reward.
While out of the capital visiting her land where she is growing strawberries and potatoes, MC comes across children being beaten. The children saw a car with vegetables fall aside and asked if they could pick up some fruit that fell on the ground. MC decides to help them and it leads to all of them being brought to court. The owner of the car turns out to be a family member of an important servant of the 4th prince. ML and the servant of the 4th prince appear at court. Then it turns out the children are children of fallen soldiers and are being helped by a retired general who is very disappointed with the court. It becomes a huge thing with all of the princes showing up. The owner of the fruit and his relative are sent to prison where the 4th prince forces them to commit su*cide.
The emperor scolds ML for letting things get so out of hand and ML tells the emperor and the crown princd he wants to leave his job.
After some trouble between MC and the crown princess, who still doesn't like MC, ML is sent as prefect to Anze prefecture. This prefecture borders on a few other prefectures and has a lot of robbers, bandits and thieves.
MC employs the general and the 70 people he takes care of in one of her zhuangzi's. When ML is sent out the general decides to join him with a few people.
The wife of Guanzhou Cheng, the 2nd person in command, immediately starts making trouble and then her husband follows. The Fan family, the moet influential family in the area starts negoring them because MC was not fawning on their daughter during a reception.
On instigation of Guanzhou Cheng everyone in the yamen (70 people) go on strike. ML fires them all and puts his own people in command. He rehires 30 of them when they repent. They have to start over from the lowest position.
When checking the books ML finds out it is a mess. The government owes a debt of 700.000 silver to the 3 largest families and they don't pay taxes in return for selling them seeds. ML decides to buy seeds from the Le family when the families refuse to sell seeds to the government if their taxes aren't waved. They come with the IOU's and demand for them to be paid back. MC uses her own money to pay them back. She now has 500.000 left. 200.000 will be used to buy seeds from the Le family.
While delivering rice seeds to one of the villages, they are robbed. ML's people wound one of their leaders who then wants revenge. They try to rob another caravan and most of their people are captured or killed.
Zhao Shu proposes to TaoTao. ML consents. Her cousin from the 3rd family is jealous and has delusions he liked her first. She is slapped back hard.
Shao Liuilin passes his 2nd exam and becomes a juren.
MC gives birth to a son. They name him An an.
ML sends his men out to measure the number of lands all larger families have. The Fan family have 50.000 mu of land not on paper. They have one of the men sent out to measure land beaten up and bribe the other (Guanzhou Cheng). They only give up an additional 10.000 mu.
The Fan family is led by the mother who refuses to give in to anybody. Her 2 sons can't go against her and her daughter is just as spoiled as she is. Her husband married into the family and everyone in the family should listen to her.
MC has already bought 50.000 mu of land to plant all kinds of things and plans to buy 200.000 mu more.
ML demotes Guanzhou Cheng to clerk after finding out he has helped the Fan family hide a part of their lands. At a party at the Fan family mrs. Guanzhou tries to frame the wife of Jia Heming, the new person in command, by dropping a valuable jade bracelet. Mrs. Bai (the daughter of the Fan family) tries to help mrs. Guanzhou and insults MC. For once her sisters-in-law put their foot down and force her to apologize. Mrs. Bai then pays one of the bandit groups 500 silver to harm MC. A large bandit group comes, but they are all caught in a trap by ML's people. Then 4 robbers decide to live in the Fan family home.
A bandit visits mrs. Bai in her room and orders her to invite MC out of the city. She does that and MC follows along. MC sees bandits coming with her senses and causes a small quake catching the bandits. 2 days later she is invited again and this time ML sends his men to capture the bandits. Now they include mrs. Guanzhou in their scheme.
The 2 sons find out about it and force their mother and sister to agree to tell ML what happened. They have to pay a large fine.
ML asks a general from the army to help him deal with the bandits. He offers him 100.000 as reward.
The army quickly gets rid of the bandit nests. The valuables found are sold.
A girl of the Lu family (follower of the Mei family) bumps into ML deliberately and immediately after rumors about her and ML start to appear. MC and ML are very busy and only hear about it a week later. ML immediately refutes the rumors and rejects their request to make her his concubine.
The daughter of mrs. Bai starts to deliberately walk into ML. When her mother asks her about it, ahe tells her that she had a dream that ML would become a very important person.
When MC and ML are out in the wild enjoying themselves, they are attacked by assassins. One of them turns out to be a member of the Mei family (one of the 3 most important families). All the members are arrested and proof of them being involved with one of the gangs is found. The family members are convicted. They had tried to let the girl of the Lu family become ML's concubine to get him involved with them.
Now only the Huo family is still as big as it used to be. They always try to stay under the radar.
MC receives news that Shao Liulang becomes close to the 4th prince. He has become a jinshi as well. ML suspects it is given to him by the 4th prince, since he doesn't have the skill.
The emperor becomes very sick. It is expected he won't have a long time to live. Concubine Mei (mother of the 4th prince) has the crown prince poisoned. He dies at the spot. The emperor dies just before him.
The 4th prince's faction takes control. The 2nd prince escapes the capital with his people. The 3rd prince also escapes and takes a territory. The northern army that gathers the border doesn't like any of the princes. Their general Zhao was killed by the suspicious emperor.
Xiao Qi comes to visit. Turns out the person who taught him to hunt in the past was general Zhao. He is now being protected in the northern armynas his successor.
Xiao Qi is accompanied by Tang Fanghu, who claims to have saved Xiao Qi. She wants to marry him, but he is not interested. Her servant deliberately tripped MC and ML's son in a cafe. MC gives her a choice when they visit. Kill the servant or get 50.000 silver and never speak about the life-saving grace again. She chooses the 2nd.
MC questions the servant she saved and finds out Xiao Qi was not really saved by Tang Fanghu. She takes back 40.000 silver and tells her to leave town.
Xiao Qi leaves again and leaves 50 elite sergeants behind to guard MC and ML. He asks them to help with food when necessary. Now the 3 princes are fighting, this might become a problem.
Zhao Shu has gotten married to Tao Tao. He has found proof of his mother being killed by his father's concubine and brings her to the Zhao family to daily pray to his mother.
A large part if land is flooded, harming lots of people. The princes do little to help. Many refugees enter Anze. ML gives them jobs to open up wasteland.
Zhao Shu and Tao Tao come to seek refuge. The prefect of Hangzhou has become greedy and demands a huge amount of money from him. Then the prefect's brother-in-law comes as well demanding money as well and even demanding his mulberry lands. He finds out his half-brother Zhao Zhai set him up. He sends one of his people to let Zhao Zai have a deadly accident. However they keep demanding money, so he decides to leave. He has already hidden a large part of his properties and sold several non-profitable shops in advance.
Yu Zhifu, the prefect of Huaixi, sends master Miao with 300 guards to Anzhu. They behave very arrogantly and demand money and food. ML refuses. They sends another one and ML refuses again. This time they even try to kidnap ML. A little later he surrenders to the 2nd prince and tells him ML wants to revolt.
General Sun under the 2nd prince now comes to Anzhu. He demands ML to come to the provincial capital. On the streets he tries to grab the daughter of mrs. Bai. She insults the princes (emperors) and now ML has no choice anymore. He takes his people to the provincial capital and conquers it easily.
Then general Sun sends people to conquer ML's territory back, but he loses both times (badly) with a little secret help from MC. The 2nd prince sends some people to negotiate. MC talks to them and rejects them citingnbeing afraid of the Sun family as reason.
In Zhao Shu's home region the prefect and his brother-in-law are still eying his properties. They become more and more greedy. His people who were left behind closed doors and escaped. ML sends some people to Hangzhou City to threaten them, however his people are chased away. They manage to capture the brother-in-law and bring him back. After that ML sends a regiment of soldiers there.
Xiao Qi comes to collect food. The Sun family interrupted his people to demand a part of the food they will get. Xiao Qi refused. He found himself a girlfriend. She is the real person who detoxified him and saved his life. The general of the northern army threatens the Sun family he will take his army and attack them if they dare to hold up the food transport. Xiao Qi gets back with the food without problems.
The 3rd prince attacks the Hanzhou area since it was weakened after fighting ML. Liu Zhifu, the prefect, surrenders immediately and even gives him one of his daughters as concubine. The 3rd prince now sends people to negotiate and ML holds them off. The prince sees this as ML consenting to him. Then concubine Su Li (she has a bandit father (Su Huai) who joined the 3rd prince and helped him conquer some territory) comes to visit ML's territory.
She is immediately looking for trouble, trying to put MC in her place. MC puts her in her place instead and sends her back quite quickly. She complains to the 3rd prince about how bad MC and ML are and the prince sends the Su Huai and his sons out to conquer ML's territory. They lose quite badly. The prince tells Su Huai to stop at a certain point, but Su Huai doesn't listen and continues to fight. Since he doesn't have enough food and people, he forces about 50.000 of the local people to join his army. He also robs money and food. When the 2 armies collide, Su Huai's new people flee in panic, causing a huge chaos.
People are trying to flatter ML's family and his father, who can never refuse people gets 2 concubines handed over. Mrs. Fang sends them back. She decides to keep an even stricter eye on her husband.
Su Huai uses force and sieges ML territory. When the approach a large city he sends his sons to ask for ladders and catapults. The 3rd prince is very angry at first that they continued to fight, but finally gives them the weaponry anyway. While Su Huai's people are still trying to besiege ML's territory, ML's people conquer Hangzhou City that belongs to the 3rd prince. The people are very happy with ML's people coming. ML immediately gives Zhao Shu and others their properties back that were stolen by the previous prefect and his brother-in-law.
Su Huai lost most of his army. He still insist on attacking again and again forcefully recruits people in his army. However the people under him now resist him (his bandit friends have mostly died) and people start to run when the fight starts. ML also takes Huzhou City. Su Huai and his son flee. Su Huai dies on an island later on.
ML decides to attack the 3rd prince's territory. The prince's power has weakened immensely and his people have lost faith. They get Jiangning City without problems.
In the meantime the 2nd prince and the 4th prince have been fighting as well.
The 2nd prince also had the idea of conquering the 3rd prince's territory now that he has weakened, but was upstaged by ML's people. The Sun general attacked ML's army, but got nowhere and had to retreat since they were also stared at by the 4th prince.
Zhao Shu and TaoTao return to the Zhao family and receive a warm welcome. TaoTao had been shunned by them before even calling her a broom star for making Zhao Shu loose most of his businesses.
Le Zhenxiao arrives with a letter from the prefect of Yuzhang. The prefect wants to join ML's territory. He is also forced to take a side and chooses ML.
MC and ML decide to open the haven and make sea trade possible. The previous emperor forbade sea trade.
ML calls all magistrates together for a discussion. MC's former fiancee and her father and his wife are also among them. Qiao Wei has married the son of a wealthy businessman in the area they live in now. She is still very arrogant. The Qiao family already starts to behave arrogant before they meet ML and MC. They think MC has to acknowledge them now. Qiao Wei's husband hopes to get some advantages of ML. They are very disappointed to find out that MC has been evicted from the Qiao family by the elders of the family. Qiao Wei tries to harm her 2nd sister-in-law when she is angry and is pushed into the water due to her husband's grandmother who doesn't like her. Her face gets hit by a branch and her face gets a large permanent scar. Qiao Wei's mother wants her daughter to divorce and threatens to put the 2nd sister-in-law in jail. In return the 2nd sister-in-law goes to ML to sue the Qiao family of corruption. Mr. Qiao hadn't done much, but his wife has. ML asks one of his magistrate to handle the case and everyone of the Qiao family was imprisoned and sent to ML to give a verdict.
The 2nd prince is under the illusion that ML is faithful to him, though he never promised him anything.
When the 4th prince sends Shao Liulang and an elder of the Qiao family as an envoy, ML decides to hand the Qiao family over to them. Shao Liulang deliberately behaves very obnoxious to see where ML's bottom line lies. He is shocked when he comes to the conclusion that ML really wants to rebel.
A few people arrive claiming to be MC's grandmother from mother's side and her uncle's family. They behave very timid.
At the goodbye party for the envoys, a fire is started and MC is knocked out kidnapped by her family members. It turns out Tian Shanshan is behind this. MC has the power to escape almost right away, but decides to stay and see what her intention is.
ML imprisons both envoys and tortures Shao Liulang to find out what he knows. He also immediately closes the city gates. 2 days later he opens the gates again and Tian Shanshan leaves with MC. ML has everyone who leaves followed to find MC. MC's family members are found death.
MC is freed a few days later.
ML asks a ransom from the 4th prince for letting Tian Shanshan go.
When she is finally free after ransom has been paid, Tian Shanshan starts tormenting Qiao Wei. One night when Qiao Wei is forced to kneel all night, Qiao Wei stabbed Tian Shanshan's wrist with a pin, stole all,of her money and jewelry and fled town dressed as a man. Qiao Wei's parents are sent to prison.
Tian Shanshan's parents want her to enter the emperor's harem. To avoid that, she proposes to Shao Liulin. She wants to marry him under condition that he will never touch her. He is allowed to have concubines and children. Liulin agrees.
ML is visited by General Feng of the Northern border and Xie Jingrong. Xie Jingrong has met master Yu, ML's teacher. The Northern border wants to surrender to ML. They have lost faith in the princes.
The 4th prince tried to kidnap master Yu and Xie Jinrong at the Northern Border. In revenge Ml attacks the 4th prince's territory. When the 4th prince wants to retaliate, the Northern Border army invades his territory as well.
When they reach the capital, MC breaches the gate with her plant powers (ML still doesn't know about them). They conquer the capital and the 4th prince and his family is put under arrest.
ML is crowned as emperor and MC as empress / queen.
While ML is in a meeting the crown princess storms in accusing him. A few days later during a meeting MC has with the important ladies of the capital, she storms in again.
Tian Shanshan is the one behind it. As consequense the Tian family is evicted from the capital (their rank had already been downgraded before) and Tian Shanshan and Shao Liulan are to be sent to MC's home village. They have a huge fight and Tian Shanshan knocks her husband out and cripples him. He can never become a scholar again. He divorces her.
The 2nd and 3rd room quarrel with MC's father to get benefits and he is wounded. He can't walk up straight. The family relations between both families are broken off.
The 2nd prince and his army are defeated. MC becomes pregnant again.
MC never tells ML about her powers.

After her daughter marries someone in the city who aims to become a scholar the relationship between her father and stepmother goes downhill. MC looks out for her father and lets him stay with at her place regularly and gives him some extra food etc. After a while he is introduced to a widow who also has a daughter by his family and remarries. This woman is very good and her daughter marries soon after and is very filial.
2 of ML's brother's left him in the woods when he was 4 and he was missing for 2 days back then. His father had died shortly before and his mother gave birth to her daughter prematurely because of that. He was found by a hunter who later returned him. This hunter taught him how to hunt and left him his money when he died. He bought a horse and carriage from this money which helps when the family needs to go to the city. His second brother marries into his wife's family, leaving 2 brothers and one sister at home. The 2 brothers who remain are the one who left him in the woods when he was young, so their relationship is strained. They always seem to think that ML wants to take revenge some time. The eldest brother moves into town when his wife's previous mother-in-law dies and they inherit her money (she got the money from selling her daughter-in-law's tofu recipe). They rarely show up at home after that and don't support his mother at all and just enjoy the good life. When the daughter of the eldest brother decides to hide herself and goes missing, the brother accuses ML of hiding his daughter. She shows herself a little later. MC and ML decide to leave for their home afterwards and have as little to do with this brother as possible.
Some people try to rob MC's fish in the night. This is the second time this happens. The first time the culprit managed to escape. The culprits this time are a neighbour of MC (Yang family, the family of white moonlight who killed MC in her previous life), the ex-husband and the brother of her previous stepmother. MC and ML demand money as compensation, knowing they will only get little punishment if they are tried. From the money the buy the forest behind the land. When they return lots of people want to borrow money from them to be disappointed when they find out that they already spent the money.
Some time later the same people rob the eldest brother of ML, stealing most of their money. The perpetrators have already spent most of their money when they are found. When this brother finds some money on the streets that later turns out to come from a robbery gone wrong (the robbers killed the owners), the brother gets arrested as well assuming he participated. The family manages to help prove he is innocent. His family sell their house in the city and return to live in the country again.
MC and ML get a son and decide to grow medicinal herbs in the forest they bought. They also decide to learn to read and write to be able to read about these herbs in books. A few years later they have another son and are very succesful in growing herbs. They become quite wealthy. Hundreds of years later they are still known in the country for finding out how to grow sweet potatoes and for starting to grow herbs artificially.
The culprits for MC's miserable life in her previous life all end up quite miserable. Her husband and his family are sent to prison for bringing ex-convicts to their village who cause all kinds of problems in the village. Most members of the Yang family are also sent to prison for the same thing. The white moonlight and her mother stay out of prison but end up poor and escape their village. The brother of ex-stepmother is executed for killing his parents. Zhao Wanwan's husband divorces her later on when she can't have children. Mrs. Qian lives with her family, raising her ex-husband's son and having a bad reputation in town. MC's mother later leaves her man with her son and buys the house of the Yang family, living close to her daughter. Her son and MC's son later become scholars.

Thanks to scheming of Ge Baoer, Qingge announces to everyone that she is his mother. This results in complaints towards the emperor of Lu Zengliu favouring the concubine over the wife. MC and her family try to get her divorced, but Lu Zengliu refuses the divorce in spite of repeated pleads by his grandmother to agree. The grandmother now wants to connect to the connect with the Duke mansion.
MC decides to fake her death. She goes to a family temple to pray, refusing to take care of the mansion and it's household. Ge Bao'er joins her, pretending to help. MC sets a fire in the room she is praying in when Ge Bao'er locks her in, and escapes through the window (with the help of prince Huan). They leave a corpse with MC's clothes and jewelry to make it seem she died. Lu Changgong arrives at the last minute and decides to stay so hear death will be more convincing. He is saved by Lu Zengliu who came to visit. Lu Zengliu sees Ge Bao'er bringing oil to the room and is convinced she set the fire.
Lin Yunwan is declared dead. Her brother Lin Yunyi demands that Lu Zenggliu signs divorce papers, so Lin Yunwan's remains can be buried with the Lin family members. In his grief (now he regrets) Lu Zengliu signs the divorce papers.
Lu Zenggliu throws Ge Bao'er at the door of the Duke's mansion to see if they will accept her. By now he is tired of her. The Duke's mansion accept her because she looks so much like her mother.
Lin Yunwan is taken in by a different Lin family in the province where prince Huan rules. Their eldest daughter was sent to the country when her father remarried after her mother's death. She committed su*cide. An uncle of prince Huan pretends to be MC's father and convinces the dead girls' father to bring her into the family as his daughter.
The stepmother immediately starts to scheme against MC, wanting to marry her off. The younger sister also starts to discredit MC, telling everyone she deliberately bumped into her mother when she was 4 trying to make her lose her baby. With the help of prince Huan MC she finds a maid who was there at the time who tells everyone the stepmother made her kick the 4 year old girl to deliberately let her bump into her stepmother. She also brings foorward the fortune teller who told the father she would bring bad luck to the family so she would be sent away. The stepmother and father keep trying to marry MC off. The stepmother even brings home a xiucai student who is a distant family member of her.
MC decides to go looking for a husband. She will never have control over her own life if she stays in this family. Prince Huan proposes to her, but she refuses. She is afraid of being rejected by the emperor and of the rules in the royal family. However he later manages to convince her to accept his proposal.
Prince Huan doesn't have concubines and has always refused to marry. He has slowly fallen in love with MC after having contacted her several times.
At a party the stepmother schemes against MC to have her fall into the water and be saved by the poor xiucai. However instead her own daughter falls into the water and is saved by the xiucai. The daughter then pushes MC into the water and MC is saved by prince Huan who has just arrived. Prince Huan proposes to her.
MC forces her 'father' to hand over the entire dowry of her 'mother' to her and her mother's family. The family used to be very wealthy merchants, but became poor over the years. The father has used this money to live well all these years. He has not much left after having been forced to hand it all over. The younger sister marries the xiucai.
MC and ML live a very happy life as a couple. ML is not allowed to leave the province he rules, because this might endanger the crown prince in the capital. The crown prince has always been sickly and has not been able to have children. He is not expected to live long. ML is expected to become the future emperor. MC has a son. After 7 years, the couple returns to the capital. MC expects to be recognized.
MC finds out the Duke's family has been causing some trouble for her family, especially for her younger brother Lin Yunyi on insistence of Ge Bao'er. 3 years earlier he got diarria when he had to take his exams because of their interference. In retaliation Lu Changgong caused trouble for Lu Qingge, having him ostracized at his school.
At a party at the Duke's family which MC attends Lu Zengliu recognizes MC, but MC pretends not to know him. Ge Baoer tries to have her condemned for misleading the emperor (the crown prince even helps), but several people (like Changgong, Lin Yunyi, Zhu Ging and former maids) testify MC is not the former wife of Lu Zengliu.
MC brings forward a girl who strongly resembles Ge Baoer. She had ML looking in the country for such a girl. She has handed this girl the jade ornament that used to belong to Ge Baoer and this convinces the Duke's family that this is their real missing daughter. They abandon Ge Baoer.
Ge Baoer is found to have been poisoning Lu Zengliu's grandmother. The grandmother dies. She is executed. Lu Zengliu is convicted and commits su*cide after having been tortured by ML. The entire Lu family falls apart.
Lu Changgong moves into a different place with Zhu Qing and her daughter. This daughter has somewhat of the character of MC. Zhu Qing is still a strong supporter and admirer of MC. Lu Qingge loses everything and amounts to nothing.
The crown prince dies and crown princess commits su*cide the same day. ML is named crown prince and takes over most of his father's tasks. Lin Yunyi marries and Changgong asks Yunyi to find him a wife. They both become succesful scholars and tutors of MC's son.
This was a nice novel. It's rather different from most historical novels. Here it's not MC's or ML's family causing the trouble, but MC's husband's family and her adopted family. And MC has been married for 7 years at the start and gets a divorce. MC is a very calm, rational person who is also rather caring. She comes from a scholar's family and is very learned and intelligent. The Marquis family got their title because of military exploits and don't understand much about scholars. Didn't get much of a view of ML's character, but he is always very caring and supportive of MC. He plays a rather minor role in the novel, though he is very important for MC's escape and for helping MC with several things. The imperial family is also not very scheming here. Crown prince and ML had a fight when he was younger because one of crown prince's maids tried to harm ML (take away his manhood) and crown prince pleaded for her. Because of that ML was sent away to a province when he was about 12. However crown prince does not try to harm ML in any way in novel (except for helping in case against MC about her identity once).

A few months later they get married (ch 97). They get along very well. The Yang family lets her organise a banquet to trip her up, but she does it perfectly.

A few weeks later, labour starts. While giving birth a voice tells her that this child is her child from her previous life. She gives birth to dragon and phoenix twins (boy and girl), an auspcious sign.
Twinsister and her husband's relationship keeps worsening. He also has memories of his previous life and regretted MC's death and not being there when she was giving birth. He now also regrets marrying the twinsister.
The only son in the 3rd generation of the yang family is a degenerate. He snatches a girl from the street he likes and kills her brother who tries to resist. He becomes close with his second son with empress Yang and starts neglecting court and sends ML to court in his stead and keeps him loaded with work. The emperor's headaches start getting worse. The 2nd prince calls a Taoist priest to help his father. The priest claims he can help the emperor gain immortallity and becomes more and more greedy and lusting for power.
When ML complains when the even want to use the national budget, he is relieved of his duties and replaced by the 2nd prince. When the priest offers the emperor an immortality pill he dies. The 2nd prince decides to frame ML. However ML is prepared and shows that 2nd prince and the priest are responsible.
ML becomes an emperor. He never takes a concubine.

When Gu Cheng Yao wants to take in a concubine who has served him for a long time, Gao Ran acts like she has no problems with that, but keeps postponing the ceremony. Then she plots to get the new concubine found in bed with a servant, which would be reason to kill her. MC shows how she was probably drugged by using a ying / yang pot which can pour 2 different drinks. The concubine is sent away to take over a shop. Problems arise in the marriage of son and Gao Ran.
The entire court goes on a trip with the emperor to the hunting grounds. Father remembers that something similar happened with one of his concubines and finds out that Gao Ran's mother is behind this. He decides to sell her and goes out riding alone. He gets into an accident and falls. Because nobody knows he is missing, people start looking for him too late and he bleads to death.
His son is not fit to be the next heir, so his parents decide to adopt Gao Ke as future heir of the family who is very intelligent after a tip of MC.
MC finds out she is pregnant. Gao Ran is afraid of Gu Cheng Yao losing his position as heir in the future and of her brother losing his position in the family, so she concocts a plot. When they are visiting a temple, she has her mother ad herbs that make horses aggressive to Gao Ke's herb bag and ads herbs that attracts horses to her own herb bag while staying behind MC in the hope the horse will make her lose her child and at the same time make Gao Ke lose his position. When the horse races towards her ML is just in time to kill it with an arrow. MC is disturbed, but is only told to take it easy for a while.
Gao Ke suspects foul play and informs ML. ML finds out that Gao Ran is the cause of the incident and she is ordered to stay in the temple at home when her family doesn't want her back. After a tip of MC her former grandparents have started looking for the reason their son went out riding alone. They find out about what his concubine (Gao Ran's mother) did. They kill her.
ML goes to the border to help with unrest there. He is away during most of her pregnancy. He comes back at the moment she goes into labor. She gets a daughter. A subordinate of ML tells MC about ML's real life with his first wife. He didn't have a happy life with her. She was someone who lived in dreams and thought ML loved her because he just happened to rescue her (and others as well). She caused rumors with her obsessive behavior and because of that ML decided to marry her. However he stayed away from home as much as possible to avoid her.
Gao Ran figures out MC has transmigrated and calls her to the temple she stays at with the intention to threaten her. MC does not care about what she wants and leaves again. ML knows what they talked about and has her killed. He will not let a potential threat live. He has already found out himself about MC. His son has also found out.
The emperor is in a fight for power with his teacher Zhang Xiaolian who has controlled the emperor and the goverment for years. ML stays away from their fight and resigns from his position. He decides to move back to the border with his wife and daughter, where his real influence is. To not let the emperor doubt him in the future, his son stays in the capital.
3 years later the family lives happily at the border. 6 years later they have a daughter and son.
Gu Chengyao realises he really loved his first wife Gao Xi. He regretted her death and didn't realise she was very sick until he received a message she died. He was influenced by his mother's romantisized vision of the world and felt he had to be in love with Gao Ran because she saved his life and had to despise Gao Xi because he thought she lied to him. He has had a concubine who looks a bit like Gao Xi, but is alone now.
Extra shows ML thinking back on his married life with MC and checking out her previous life.

After being reborn, she ran back to her family and got engaged and married to Prince Jin. They married our MC to our ML, who was in a coma and shackled down I believe.
Our ML is the only son of the former Emperor, and the current Emperor was his Uncle. ML's original family was originally a general's family, and our ML was also a war hero. He saved our MC previously when her hometown was invaded after her parents were killed. Then, she was adopted by the Jiang family. Our ML's mother was previously killed by the old Emperor of the former dynasty, which is why the ML's father rebelled and became the Emperor. The current Empress Dowager is the ML's father's concubine who like didn't live in the home in the capital which is the only reason why she survived. The reason why the ML survived not being killed alongside his mother was because he snuck out to follow his father to war.
The original Miss Jiang had also seen the ML previously and also liked him, but since he was a waste and there was no future with him, she obviously preferred her childhood friend Prince Jin.
The MC and the ML slowly discover through a series of incidents why the ML went insane and what was affecting him. The ML was actually poisoned by the current Emperor (his Uncle) which was what made him go insane and kill all of his colleagues. They wanted to eliminate the ML because technically he should be the one on the throne as the only son of the former Emperor, and not the current Emperor.
Eventually the ML and MC leave the capital after the Emperor forces him to go to war with minimal troops to defend the border from the enemy country, but he goes and instead gathers troops from the different areas all around, forcing the military families to submit to him. The Emperor tries to call him back, and tries to tell everyone in the capital that he's rebelling, but eventually they become scared because the enemy country is closing in on them, there are betrayers, and then there's the fact that the ML has a powerful military force.
Eventually the old Emperor dies, and Prince Jin ascends as the Emperor. They flee the capital because Prince Jin is a coward and wanted to run away if I recall correctly.
Eventually, the whole dynasty is split into two halves with Prince Jin ruling one side then ML ruling the other side. The ML then goes, kills the enemy country and his Queen (who actually became friends with our MC) commits su*cide. He then destroys the enemy country and proceeds to subjugate all the countries around him. Once he finishes that, he sets his sight on Prince Jin's half of the kingdom.
He eventually reaches the capital, where the original Miss Jiang, who is Queen, puts on her Queen's robe and jumps into the lake and drowns herself, which is the exact same way she died in her previous life.
As for Prince Jin, he ran away with his favorite concubine (a concubine from the enemy country) leaving Miss Jiang behind.
Hilariously enough though, before he could run very far, his favorite concubine killed him.
The story ends with the ML returning home to his wife and child having united the entire dynasty under his rule.

The family of her sister's husband was exiled by the previous emperor (innocently) and the husband divorced her so she would not have to be exiled and could give birth to their child without problems. The sister gave birth to MC's father, but died during birth. Mrs. Jiang had been pretending to be pregnant, sk she could raise the child without the stigma of his family having been exiled. Mrs. Jiang always treated MC's father well. However she didn't like it that he married his wife withour her permission and she didn't like their children (MC and her brother). An important reason was that MC and her brother were better than Mrs. Jiang's own grandchildren. MC's parents agree to ask the government to cancel the punishment of his 'adoptive brother' and give him back the title as thanks for what Mrs. Jiang did back then.
XJ gets dreams of MC and his happy life with her in a previous life. He regrets breaking up with her. However he never acts on that and is a pretty upright person. He later marries someone who somewhat resembles MC.

The 5th prince has schemed with Yang Weitian to break up with her now, knowing the emperor will choose new concubines soon, which will result in her getting chosen as his concubine.
In the book this will result in her family opposing the empress Li family and her entire family getting destroyed. Her family now have friendly relations with the Li family and they support the crown prince. In the book Wu Wei'an will become the prime minister. His family is now very poor. So MC decides to propose to Wu Wei'an. She recognizes him as a kid who was once kidnapped like her and managed to free himself and help her escape. He now acts like a whimp, seemingly afraid of everything. After a first refusal, MC decides to accept a little later. He needs a lot of money for the huge network he built up throughout the country and is always broke because of that. The get married soon after.
It is funny to see how after ML manages to get money from MC, his servants find a way to get it to pay for the debts he has, so he always ends up broke again immediately after. He is probably the most powerful martial artist of the country, but has been poisoned from birth through his mother.
MC is always doing business and opening shops. She decides to open shops that sell cloths to compete with the 5th prince's concubine, whose main income comes from these kinds of shops. From the book she knows that the 5th prince killed his concubines parents, so she decides to show her some proof of that. The concubine starts to plot against the prince after that and MC and ML use that to kill the 5th prince.
A little later ML who has joined court is sent away to get a position in the country (his own will). He has found the cure against the poison in the 5th prince's hand and needs time away to cure himself. She was also the one who poisoned ML's mother. The crown prince arrives some time later wounded. The emperor tried to kill him.
The emperor starts to plot against MC's family. He sends MC's second brother and his army to help, which results in almost the entire Ji family being there. When there is a flood near the place they are at, the emperor uses this to try and kill them. People try to kill them when they are trying to save people. However they manage to destroy the emperor's power, the Beishan sect. Several of their people are killed in the process (like Baofu, so unnecessary).
The MC, ML and the empress decide it's time to kill the emperor. They use the pawns they have inserted into the palace to create disturbances and assanination attempts. The emperor decides to act against the empress and is killed in the process by one of ML's people inserted into his guard. The crown prince (who turns out to be not the emperor's son) becomes next emperor. He is a very kind person who genuinely cares for the people.

Tianling finally convicts his maternal family, has his mother locked up and has the concubine's family poison the concubine after giving them 2 choices. They chose her death.
Tianling finally convinces Yan Li to stay with him. He promises to tell her about his feelings from now on and not keep anymore secrets from her.

When the crown prince doesn't wake up frommhis dreams of being with MC and his body is deteriorating, the empress gives her blood causing him to die right after because their blood types don't match. Because of this the emperor finds out this is not his son. The empress tells him she switched her child, making the emperor believe he has children with his own daughter. He is devastated and doesn't knkw what to do.
ML's halfsister gives birth to children who are deformed. She decides to execute MC and the Zhao family. During the execution the heavens react and a phoenix arrives who starts to harm halfsister, making everyone believe the Zhao family is innocent.
During the following discussions the emperor arrives. It turns out MC is his daughter. And halfsister is having twins of Jiang Si, who turns out to be her brother. She cuckolded the emperor. The Jiang families' daughter was stolen when she was young and Jiang Shan found MC around the same time in the snow and brought her home. His mother was very angry with Jiang Shan and let her family mistreat him, making him ill and causing him to become dull. He was very intelligent before that.
The emperor had a twin brother. The twinbrother was raised as the crown prince though he was 2nd born (the empress switched them because the 2nd son looked stronger). The other prince was raised in the cold palace. However this prince was very mature and intelligent and the crown prince wss very playful. He found out about his twinbrother and started to switch with him, letting him go to classes while he left and played. When their father found out about that, the real eldest prince (now emperor) convinced everyone he was the crown prince because he knew about his school lessons, etc. The other prince was convicted to death but managed to escape. He maimed his face to make himself unrecognizable and plotted with ML's stepmother to take the throne. He tried to rob MC's town during the winter and taken in by her and followed her to the capital. He is executed.
Halfsister dies and babies are brought to Jiang Si.
Everyone in the cabinet wants MC to become the empress right away. The emperor is very sad about that. He has been doing his best for years, but everyone wants him to step down asap. MC becomes empress. Jiang Si fails his exams in the capital because of MC.
His mother has been sleeping with young men while her husband stayed in the village and has become pregnant. She starts to bleed when she hears about Jiang Si failing his exams. Jiang Si starts to hit her to make her lose her baby and kills her.
ML is kidnapped by the saint of a neighbouring country. She wants to marry him to increase her luck. Apparently saints in their country don't live long and have to marry someone with very bad luck to increase their luck. MC decides to travel there to find ML. Turns out the saintess is the director of the mental hospital from her previous life (was male previously). She begs for forgiveness. When MC sees ML again he faints and is declared dead. When a few days later they want to cremate him, the heavens send out rain. At the same time MC is delivering her babies. She gets triplets, 1 boy and 2 girls. When the last girl is born, ML wakes up. He has been sleeping this whole time. He has a condition where he regularly looks dead when he sleeps. He turns out to be a famous actor in MC's previous life who was in love with MC. He also had very bad luck then. She also liked him.
Suddenly we find out that MC was also pregnant with triplets in her previous life. We also suddenly find out a warlock stole MC's luck.
One of MC's mental patients invented time travel in her previous life. She sends MC, ML and her children back to her previous life. Their bodies still exist there. They have been lying in a hospital in a coma for 3 years. MC's body is in the morgue. While she was in a coma her children were delivered and raised by ML's parents. They were dull and their family didn't really like them.
When the children get near MC their intelligence comes back. MC helps a kidnapped child and meets their family. The child's grandmother takes her in as her godchild. It is not said but implied that this is her real mother and the Jiang family kidnapped her when she was a baby. They held her prisoner in the first 15 years of her life and let her bring them good luck.
ML, MC and children are back together. MC's luck seems to be back. The end.
The story was alright. Don't have to read it again. It read like a slapstick or cartoon. The end was very messy. A lot of new things that were never mentioned before are suddenly introduced. An actress pretends that ML's children are hers. She is questioned when MC's body disappears from the morgue (she happened to be there at that time) and doesn't appear again. We don't find out who the warlock was who stole MC's luck. It is never confirmed that the Yang family is her real family. We don't know if MC and her family go back to the past. She became empress and immediately left to find ML and then went back to her previous life. What was the use of becoming empress?
Her luck is greatly exaggerated. For example it is mentioned that when an airplane she was in was about to crash lots of birds came to support the airplane and carry it to the ground. This seems rather impossible and if she's really that lucky would an airplane even start to crash?
