It's plot-heavy with a romantic sub-plot. The romance is subtle. Kinda laid back with some comedy since the protagonist is a little at ease at times. But y'all this could get very scary and gore-y, I thought the horror was going to be mediocre and tried to read it at night, now I can't even fall asleep without headphones nor the lights on. The translation really did it justice. The tension and atmosphere build-up, the twists and turns, the wording, they're all perfect. Super immersive and engaging. The couple's chemistry and interactions, despite some of them being short are *chef's kiss*. The concept is easy to grasp once you really get into it, the world-building doesn't ebb your patience away, all of the characters are realistic and will either touch your heart or annoy the sh*t out of you. Highly recommend.

Finished this in three nights, I'm getting into world-hopping novels lately and I can say that at this point in time, this is the cream of the crop. Unlike others, their relationship is a little more developed and the main characters have depth and think critically. Overpowered protagonist and revenge plots here and there. Although there are still arcs that are worth questioning, some details aren't as wel, executed as the others (there are more preferable ways of conveying them TT) and the nature of their relationship can be one big question mark at times, the whole set-up is still just very pleasant and a good, mindless one-sitting read. Finished this in such a short time and hhhhh I really had low expectations for this and I'd thought it was going to be boring but I'm so glad I didn't think of skipping this. The environment in which the story is set is surely different and often unagreeable but I'm ecstatic to see that we're getting just fluffy, pure romance also because we saw such a good account about recovery and healing. Haven't finished it and I don't think I'll be finishing it for a while. It has my favourite tropes but the amount of possessiveness and manipulation the main lead has accumulated throughout their years of separation is a bit exhilarating imo. The setup and character dynamics aren't my cup of tea, but there are definitely points that I liked, especially in the beginning to middle stages. This was interesting and I didn't like it. Sure had its strong points and I'm sure some people would prefer to read it; There were some cultural differences that I couldn't quite get a grasp on especially dealing with issues such as gender inequality and just gender roles in general. I didn't know if it was possible, but the novel that apparently only consists of a male cast is surprisingly misogynistic. The survival in the forest arc is sweet and precious at times but transitioning to the 'going-back-to-the-empire' part just doesn't sit right with me. Plus the proportion between the actual plot and the development between MC and ML is very off (you'll get attached... more>> to their progress and then suddenly they're addressing an assassination attempt, talk about bad timing). 

I mean the premise was the protagonist was an animal that gained consciousness and there's bound to be things that he couldn't understand but I really don't get it, he has perfect comprehension now so why don't they ever bother to explain things to him TT. I bore with it for at least 50 chapters, so I admit at the minimum, a fraction of the novel is entertaining.
