And surprise, surprise the main reason for this is actually the shameless male lead, Luo Huai Yuan instead of the titular lofty, noble & strong female lead Yan Yan. Luo Huai Yuan is a delight to read about. He is a transmigrator & a regressor but you can feel his helplessness in a world where he has no power or solid backing. He schemes not for revenge but to fulfill his promise to his consort. He knows his limits & not once did he have any thoughts about the throne. I'd love to read more about his antics & how people around him view him. Among all the josei novels I've read, Luo Huai Yuan is the male lead I'd love to know & read more about. <<less

This is a hard novel to put down. Shao Xuan is undoubtedly a very overpowered protagonist with the biggest protagonist halo. But I love the many wonderful characters (and animals!) that colours the novel as I read Shao Xuan's many adventure & journeys. Another novel on this list by Miss Yue Xia Die Ying. What differentiates this novel with her other two novels I love is how real this one felt. Our FL Zhuang Laoyan is not the sole woman in the harem, and this novel is beleaguered with harem intrigues and women fighting for favour.
