I made a list that includes what I considered the best of the best but I slowly built up a sizable list of novels that I wouldn't consider "great" but were a pleasant/tolerable read regardless. These managed to avoid most of the annoyances I have with novels while remaining interesting enough to keep me reading for a decent amount of time. In no particular order.

Way of the Devil is like my third favourite novel of all time.
In Way of the Devil, the MC, called Lu Sheng (Road to Victory, translated) is a normal Human who gets reincarnated into a fantasy/xianxia/cultivation world. He thinks he just got unlucky and hasn't got a cheat (gold finger) or system so he just lives his life as a normal rich guy and bums around doing nothing in his small town- until an entire family disappears in a single night, with nothing left but bits of gore. Eventually he gets into supernatural investigation and becomes a cultivator after realising the world is far weirder than he thought it was. What makes Way of the Devil different is that the MC just keeps piling up cultivation techniques which aren't supposed to be put together- in fact anyone else doing it would die. As a result he transforms into an inhuman monster which continues to get worse over time as he recklessly chases power.
I caught up on the translation at around 650 chapters- I didn't get bored of reading it all, read this over three years ago now and still remember the plot- it's that good. Honestly if it can make it to a two thousand chapters, it has potential to rival Warlock of the Magus World imo. Also I hate that this website only shows 'officially translated' chapters from webnovel- when you can find 600+ chapters on boxnovel or some equivalent site. It's really misleading when you want to read something, you end up not reading it because what's the point of reading a couple tens of chapters. Site is so misleading.
