mc had a rebirth, but did not depend on that memories for her moves. it was barely mentioned actually, and to mc, is more as if she was just "watching" than experiencing them. she's very smart and independent. the same with ml, and what makes the two fit so well. 

mc started thinking of marriage as a business deal, and only wanted a peaceful life. no revenge or anything. so, that was different than most. but it's not boring at all. there's always people itching to die and the circumstances from ml's side too. 

the villain fl was interesting. has insecurity and thinks of herself as the victim all the time, and could never had enough of her life. however, she never actually schemed for mc to die like any other novel of the same genre. in a way, she's very humane. 

the rebirth also has a nice twist to it.

story is enjoyable. took a while for things to heat up, but the pacing is actually just right. the mc and ml's progress was nice to read. both were in the same boat due to circumstances, but they grew to trust and love each other. throughout the story, you can see the progress of not just their relationship, but also their characters. 

just one thing tho, their first time was  extremely dub-con at its best, non-con at its worst. ml was drunk if i remember correctly. and the follow up was just bad. mc all blushing, ml had no remorse. a bit ooc imo as despite the ml's blunt actions and ravenous appetite for mc, you could tell he really loves mc and respect her. so it made me huh?? same for mc. she's not one to take things lying down. she clearly resisted ml during the act, why next morning, she's just blushing? minus point because of this. 

i rather like the white moonlight as a character. she's a sheltered and entitled young lady when young. she made mistakes and it ended miserably, then had a rebirth, found this world is a book. so, she decided to choose a different path. classic rebirth mc plot, right? but her hate was really misplaced on mc. yes, humans are unreasonable and when they saw what could've been theirs, they would grow jealous. even more so when the one who enjoyed it is your supposed substitute (mc). however, her hate was misplaced as she hates mc the most rather than those who truly made he miserable in previous life. at the end of her life, she thought how the world is not a book and there's no protagonist (ori ml), they book embellished ori ml simply because it's from his pov. she died the same way as previous life, only this time, of her own choice and with an empress robe. feels like a wasted opportunity :') 

one thing i also don't quite like is how at the later chapters with the wars, it's basically just an info dump of ml winning here and there (small timeskip of every few days). there's a heck lot of them too. then, a sudden five years timeskip. it's all very short and sudden. i get the not writing the war as this is a romance novel, but this is just basically making the readers read a short conclusion with timestamps. minus point on that. 

all in all, it's actually not a bad read and is enjoyable enough.  <<less

truthfully, i'm just not feeling it for this novel because of the mc. she is very smart but passive. then again, it is her persona. what i really dislike is the fact, until the end, she was never in love or even like the ml. you could just tell. she's basically acting in repayment as how the ml treated her. it's all brain and no heart at all. i also just don't feel it how the ml could fall for her. so, if you're looking for the romance and emotional part in this novel, you'll be disappointed. 

other than that, this novel is really great in the author's way of writing. the seemingly loving act of the cp, the peaceful atmosphere laced with a dark undertone, the conversations that almost always has a hidden meaning, it's all written very wonderfully. the characters are also very intelligent, so much so that well, the emotional part is very lacking lol (as i've mentioned in the previous paragraph) 

however, this way of writing is why some of the reviews feel this novel is lacking in the action part. at least that's how i see it, because if you don't understand the hidden meanings, don't read them carefully, you won't get the anticipation for what's coming, and reading it will feel bland. so, better keep your eyes open and read them carefully!  <<less

started kinda slow for the face slapping, as mc first rebirthed back when she was still in the countryside. the real people to get revenge on was in the capital. took about 30+ ch to reach the fun revenge part. it did get quite boring before that. 

as for the revenge part, it started fun and satisfying, but gets boring quickly as everything just went completely to mc's way. no stumbling block or whatever. it's bascially: villains plotting, mc countered, villains suffering, repeat. some of it got uncovered in a single ch lol. also, i find the mc relies soooo much on her last life's memory for revenge, and it's like she never forgot a single thing. like, is that even possible? plus, the villains schemes got uncovered so easily. either she relies from last life's memory or her maid (and yiniang) told her of their schemes. too easy for mc. 

i also find the author's writing can be quite cringe with all the flowery words describing mc's beauty. once or twice is fine, but damn, there's a lot of them. (this is a style in all of author's works) then, there's also the way author info dump you with a lot of things. either description of mc's every single outfit, a sudden explanation of mc's knowledge from past life that enables her to do her scheme now (unrealistic), and that's it. i think. 

as for romance, it's basically non-existing for now. both mc and ml doesn't trust each other. ml is also highly suspicious of mc. but they do have the same enemy, so they kinda get tied up in several things. 

despite all that, if you're just looking for a ton of face slapping and isn't a picky reader, this can be quite satisfying. the over dramatic description can also just be skimmed through.  <<less

characters are just okay. nothing special and is common of this type of stories. some of the villains are plain s*upid.

i find it interesting that she first decided not to return to real daughter's original family and wanted to live on her own. but circumstances happened, people provoked her first, and so she decided to get her real daughter identity back and retaliate against fake daughter. 

another interesting things is the authenticity of the "book plot". ofc the plot changed as mc did not follow the supposed plot, involved other characters in and all. but there seems to be some part that was not consistent with the book plot. such as the supposed villain ml's actions. i find it's quite ooc as he was supposedly a scheming one and wouldn't do an upfront thing like what he did in the book plot. there's also the cause of the emperor's sickness and sixth prince's death being different that what the book plot described. it appears only one side was shown on the book.

one refreshing thing i like is that both mc and ml met early on with fake identities, but after they met each other again (which was not long after) with their real identities, they didn't pretend not to know each other. in fact, ml greeteed her first. this is quite different than most novel in this kind of trope as ml usually hides his real identity for so long, and i just like it. it feels they are more honest with each other. no romance as of where i last read yet though.

as for the translation, tons of typos :( especially the names. they suddenly changed mc's name from Qin Gui to Qin Jiu and didn't even put a note. sometimes, it'd go back to Qin Gui again lol. then, the book fl name kept changing as well: Qin Xin, Qing Xi, Qing Xin :'))) Li to Lee which feels more korean than chinese to me. he and she or sometimes get switched. 

some of the translations are quite weird. noble heirs being called crown prince? the matriarch of a noble family calling her grandchildren sister jiu and sister xin? i feel the translator might have translated too directly or smth. 

overall, an average read. not bad but not amazing as well. if you're picky, you wouldn't like this. but if you're looking for some light read, revenge and all, this can be fun to read.  <<less

the reason behind ml's circumstances was a nice twist. however, it would not make sense when he was a book character mc once read.  inconsistency once again. 

story itself feels quite superficial with characters that ends up flat (yes, that includes ml), mc's personality that appears smart yet acts too bold at times (it feels like author wants to portray her as different than other girls in ancient times, but it just makes her look s*upid to me. she actually declared in public she wants to marry her ex-fiance's dad. is she nuts? and no one rebuked her too??), and schemes + power that doesn't make sense. 

overall, average really. good enough to read when you're bored.  <<less

this one is a face-slapping novel with all the common tropes you can think of, but i still enjoyed reading it. it's not amazing, but it's not bad as well. there's some plot holes and loose ends, but it's still readable. 

one of the things i find very odd is the mc's adept at scheming. yes, she died with grievance and wants revenge, but that doesn't suddenly make her a good schemer. however, as soon as she came back to life, she became really ruthless and a master schemer (to the point it doesn't make sense, sometimes). 

another thing, i like the way both mc and ml doesn't just fall for each other. in fact, mc was scared of ml she doesn't want to do anything with him (everyone is scared of him, and it shows) .

translation is odd in some places and typos on characters' names. they's get switched here and there.  <<less
