i read basically anything (gl, bl, bg, whatever) but i tend to gravitate towards transmigration and romance (and gl… which i want more of… where's the gl……..).

as a critique of gender i’ll give it a 3/5. overall, i think it was a hopeful and uplifting message, but it isn’t really well executed. my main problem is the fact it can feel too good to be true and fake. honestly i would have made Tang Bai [SPOILER] be blacklisted for attempting to be a mecha designer, and then he would work together with Xie Ruheng using his identity as ‘Mouse’ to establish a name for himself in the slums before he rises to prominence above all the alpha designers, reveals himself, and they have to tuck their dicks inside their asses [END SPOIL] but also i like revenge and mature characters so… yeah i think i’m not exactly the target audience. keep that in mind.now, my complaints: [SPOILER] Tang Bai is the only one to attend military school, despite the fact that a classmate of his is mentioned showing interest in a different military department. i’ll use an example for why i find this off putting. imagine you are an ultra talented female scholar in the 1800s, but society does not allow you to attend school. you gain an opportunity! would you not want your friends, who have suffered through brainwashing together with you, to also join? so they can begin to see the world like you? to relish in this unique chance? to increase the likelihood that your attendance as a group will have a larger impact? [END SPOIL] in short my question largely is. how can one person start a revolution? the book answers this simply: with money and connections. it is with money that Tang Bai [SPOILER] magically solves the problems in the slums by building schools and adding a police presence (be so f*cking for real with me right now. how would a police presence make the slums a better place to live?? if upper class alphas have been socialized all their lives to treat the lower class as inferior why on earth would they want to be stationed in the slums? it is repeated in the story that the general public are told by the Federation that the slums are filled with lazy and disgusting people. they would absolutely not make the slums a better place to live.) also addiction being written as villainous and evil in the story when it’s an illness made me sad. [END SPOIL] it is with connections that Tang Bai accomplishes practically any issue he cannot do easily by himself. in fact it will be solved by someone willing to do anything for him. in short; he will never truly suffer or face setbacks once his talent is uncovered. i also take issue with the fact that omegas and betas are canonically weaker and less physically capable than alphas. in real life, a female, male, or inters*x person all have the same potential to grow powerful physically. are there differing genetic limitations? sure! but that isn’t because of a s*x assigned at birth. it is because of genetic lottery based on who your parents are. the writing is also a bit iffy with race stuff. to me the Federation seems to be East Asia/China the Empire is the West/United States and the third country i think is called Pau? and it’s described in a weird as f*ck way… they are 'barbarians educated by the Federation.' i don’t even know what country it’s supposed to be.. but yeah. also i hated the fact that [SPOILER] there is a whole chapter for the man who abused Gu Tantan’s omega father (i forgot his name i think it’s Li something) because they were married and his father abused him through childhood neglect and brainwashing. but… he’s a whole grown adult. he doesn’t get sympathy points for having a hard childhood before he became an abuser. it is absolutely inexcusable to mentally, emotionally, verbally, and physically abuse someone because you can’t come to terms with your feelings uwu poor you… like. wtf. HE DID IT FOR OVER 2 DECADES AND 4 PREGNANCIES!! am i the only one who found the chapter annoying as hell to read. [END SPOIL] the story basically gives off a, ‘if the omegas try hard enough, the alphas will see why they are wrong! :D!’ but let’s be real. no they will not. it’s also got the vibe of, ‘i could make it to the top despite the barriers so that means that there are no barriers!’ because. how was Bai Zhi (i think that’s his name) [SPOILER] able to pass SO MUCH pro omega legislation SO EASILY in an apparently LARGELY CONSERVATIVE congress ????? public opinion isn’t everything. look at the US. the majority of US citizens did not support the overturn of Roe V Wade. we are talking about an elite legislative arena where equality goes to die. Bai Zhi should have at least been tired from overwork. he didn’t struggle at all once Tang Bai appeared. [END SPOIL] i haven’t even touched on the fact that there are 2 live memorable female characters, 1 of them is Tang Bai’s mom, the other is [[[[SPOILER]]]] an evil cheating schemer and THE ONLY FEMALE ALPHA IN THE ENTIRE NOVEL [[[[[END SPOIL]]]] I’M SO FOR REAL THERE ARE ONLY MEN IN BOTH SCHOOLS. THE OMEGA SCHOOL AND THE ALPHA SCHOOL DO NOT MENTION A SINGLE WOMAN EVER. NOT EVEN A TEACHER!!!! ok sorry. i just kept waiting the whole story for one female classmate and friend T-T this is nitpicking i know but there are just so many little things about this story that would get me ranting to my girlfriend for a bit before i could continue reading… like how the f*ck are there only alphas and omegas giving birth to alphas and omegas. not a single beta parent. also no wlw pairing in the entire story. i expected as much since this was presumably written by a straight woman who designed a fun fantasy of hers but. come on. THIS IS ABO?? you are telling me that the completely societally normal pairing of a woman alpha and woman omega just doesn’t happen? and this is a comment i must make! Xiao Cheng is far more attractive than Xie Ruheng. i 100% mean it. also it creeps me out when [SPOILER] a poor character isn’t disgusted by a rich one. because. what poor person have you met idolizes rich people?? all the people i know hate them, or at the very least fear them. the exploration of that tension and how Tang Bai would have to win over his love interest is just not present. because [END SPOIL] Tang Bai charms every one easily because Tang Bai is amazing, cat-like, smells like milk, has white skin (girl..), talks in a soft sweet voice, and has amber eyes that have a burning light inside them. there are so many other things i could mention but i’ve written way too much already. the story is still an interesting read lol i think i made it sound bad but it’s honestly enjoyable. i’m just picky as hell <<less
