Couldn't wait for a decent translation cuz the story s**ked me in hard, so I read the MTL version from chapter 140 on (3 times). It was much, much more readable than the average MTL book, imo totally worth some mental gymnastics required to get through it.

I pretty much compare all the books on the list to this, and they pale in some or other aspect. For me, a 10/10 experience. Prepare tissues for multiple reasons. <<less

Reading this was like taking a walk in the park, thirwheeling with two friends who are obviously in love with each other. A magical gay time was had by all. Then, one of the friends got mugged and the other stabbed, and it was horrific. After recovering, you all went to the zoo, met a bunch of other friends and had fun, but on the way home you were in a terrible car crash and your two friends barely survived it. However, everything that isn't closely related to the main plot, that is how WKX wants to get into ZZS' pants+their main objectives, feels like it got thrown to the side. Many important events that happened in the meantime got mentioned only in a few words. It felt pretty lazy. I feel the show is much better, despite obviously adding the B to 'romance'. Though, to be honest, there wasn't enough of it in the book either, and I felt there was enough time and space for it. Very, very plot-heavy, so many intrigues, characters, places (couldn't read without a map, that's been helpfully provided by the translators, tyty!). One of my favourites on the list. There were chapters where I couldn't stop laughing at the misunderstandings that seemed great to the characters but were actually very silly. The family drama felt genuine, and the hurt and comfort between the leads was touching. The intimate parts were subtle, but it was mostly the comedy that earned this novel a place in my heart. Also shoutouts to the smartest 10-year old I know, you go Xuan Congxin!

The MC of this story is a precious Cinnamon Roll everyone hates for some reason or the other. It's entertaining to read how these awful harpies misinterpreted everyone of his good deeds, and it feels great when they get what they deserve! The ML feels like a normal man and not a mythical prince created by the BL gods to only satisfy the MC's hidden desires. Aka, the man is a working imperial prince and that means he gotta make babies, so make babies he does! With women! Yes, multiple! I get how that may turn off some readers, but I found it refreshing, and the romance between the leads doesn't lose out at all.... more>> As usual in historical court novels, plots, terrible family relationships, etc.

The story in this is quite simple, with a few easy-to-predict surprises, yet the way it's written makes it feel hard to understand and complicated. Maybe the descriptions were just too much. The main mystery was alright. The chemistry between the main leads feels a little static, especially in the beginning. There's a lot of the MC being furious and the ML frowning and saying nothing over and over. Halfway it somehow gets better, and instead of frustrating, they become endearing.  Still, it was a bit boring, and the author's overexplaining felt a bit patronising at times.
