Well, the system isn't really important to the story besides giving the MC some restrictions (must pretend to be in love and can't OOC, can't ask for divorce on her own). But aside from that the system doesn't appear much in the story and there doesn't seem to be any real consequences to following or disobeying the system. If imma be a critical reviewer, this is the fault of the author. But as a casual reader who is not a fan of systems, GOOD! Thanks to the system for setting up the premise but beyond that, good riddance. Its absence did not negatively affect the story in any way lol. <<less

ML's reactions and struggles are believable for someone who suddenly changed gender and is forced to live a very different life. I like that this is a slow romance and MC isn't immediately accepting being with a man. ML's development as someone moving on from an old love was good too. The novel didn't make ML this all accepting person and all loving despite everything either since he never did find out properly about MC's real identity (but there was a sort of hint for him since he dreamed of the alternate reality with the real girl Su Jian). It feels more realistic that way.

Anyway, MC and ML's dynamic and growth as a couple was really good and natural. There was no major drama getting in their way either and the novel didn't waste so much time on the homewreckers. If anything, those people helped cement and cultivate MC and ML's relationship lol. It was really fun reading about them and would happily read more extras about them and their family if only there was ;u; <<less

Hmmm, if I just havee to say tho, if I have any gripe on this, it would be that the FL is a very lackluster and boring character. Other characters have very colorful personalities whereas FL doesn't really have much other personalities and emotions beyond "likes food" and "good cook". Author didn't even bother to explain a bit more background pre transmigration. She gives the impression of a stock character. Ahh at least it got a bit better and more tolerable once the more romantic part of the novel started. She and her husband have a lot of cute moments hehehe. Also good that she isn't OP in other stuff beyond food skills otherwise she'd be really boring and flawless.

Basically yeah, don't really expect a novel storyline since it's a wholesome story with very little dog blood moments and all ends well with the presence of a typical talented and loved-by-all female lead. I'm really baffled about this being rated so poorly. I thought it was pretty good. It's one of the better dog blood stories with lots of face slapping and revenge out there. There's a LOT of drama but it managed to not be too excessive and tiring to read which just made it fun to read all throughout. I remember some reviews complaining about how FL is dumb and immature and how some stuff made no sense and I'm just huh? Are we reading the same novel? The story is perfectly fine to me and things haven't reached the point of absurd. I dunno I don't think there's something wrong with my tastes and discernment.... more>> Perhaps it's really just preferences. If you don't like drama then naturally you'll be annoyed I suppose.

On to the characters, we have two likeable leads with good chemistry. They're pretty capable and strong in their own way but not too OP. I'm actually glad for that since it's off putting to me lately seeing characters who can be successful at anything and everything. Especially for the transmigrated characters who suddenly becomes omnipotent after transmigration. The FL here isn't like that. She's relatively normal and she's forced to work hard. I kind of feel bad for her, she can't catch a break with all the family drama she's dealing with. Unlike other transmigrated leads, she didn't really utilize modern knowledge much and she's clearly limited by ancient period rules and standards. Her biggest gold finger honestly is not the fact that she has modern knowledge and knowledge of the future cuz of the plot, but more of her good interpersonal skills which is more realistic than becoming multi talented. She's very likeable and knows how to bring people to her side. She's not so scheming but she knows how to deal with people using words and actions. Hehehe I like how she deals with things actually. I love her temper and spunk. She's the most verbally combative FL I've read. Her just straight up being disrespectful and arrogant instead of taking care of people secretly is very very refreshing. 

RIP to ML I said so much about FL but not about him lol. He's alright hahaha. Not to my personal taste but a genuinely good partner. It's very amusing that he's someone you could describe as addicted to acting lol. If being a duke doesn't work out for him he could change professions. He likes teasing and angering FL which was fun to watch. He's clearly a pig eating a tiger but he's not so strong to be able to succeed each time and do great things thank god I don't want the cliche of ML rising above all each time. He's content with the position he has. He's a non-yandere character and he's not overly jealous, controlling or protective which is just yeessss I appreciate this!

I feel like one of the most likeable things about this tho is the variety of the side characters. Yes it's dog blood and yes there's extremely hateful and irrational characters. But pretty much everyone is 3 dimensional and complex. Can't simply divide them as good or bad. Even the dumber and less likeable characters have redeeming points to them. There isn't so much cliches where good person turns completely bad and vice versa. Misunderstandings, feelings, and small conflicts can be resolved in relatively simple and normal ways. It's very relaxing to see characters that aren't caricatures. Like, how nice would it be if grievances could be easily resolved with a talk like what happened here at some point? Won't a lot of dog blood novels end quicker that way? At any given time, ML and MC are surrounded by a balanced mix of good and bad people and most people have their IQs online. There's no 'me against the world' drama where they just can't stop meeting bad people that'll make things difficult for them. The faceslapping here feels relatively mild tbh. It's so mild that somehow I feel like some people didn't get enough just deserts. Noooo story i still want to see X person ruined, you can be more dramatic!!

Hmmm if I have any discontent about this, it would be the ending. Like literally, that sh*t abrupt. From first chapter to the second to the last chapter, the pacing was alright and done well. But then it's like someone told the author they have to end the story today ASAP so the last chapter just rushed to deal with the last main antagonist and close off loose ends. It really caught me off guard like ah! that's it? Things are just resolved like that? It's very unfulfilling since I wanted to see the finale done in a more logical and realistic manner and I wanted to know the fates of other characters too. Arrrgh i want to spoil, i just have many questions and burning curiosity re: other characters. Novel deadass gave us likeable, complex characters but didn't allow us to enjoy em fully smh.

So yeah, dang I said a lot lol. Basically, fun to read faceslapping novel that deserves to be rated a bit more highly. Very good to read if you want ancient time settings with family and imperial drama. Be warned about the somewhat unfulfilling ending but the adventure to get there is reason enough to read~ <<less
